to throw your dummy out because we lost to Pompey insane, we may even end up with a better option than Morris in midfield

That's all very well but at the start of the season and by general consensus we required another goal scorer. In four games this season we have had very few shots on goal and even fewer from open play. Add to this we have only scored 2 in the league so far this season and it does not look particularly promising either. We need somebody like Marquis to ginger things up. Even Bayo might have been a worthwhile option. Unless our goal scoring credentials are improved we will have a disappointing season yet again.

We need somebody like Marquis who scored 2 goals in 14 for us last season? So Richard's 1 in 4 and Toney's 1 in 4 is worse than having Marquis' 1 in 7 is it?

To be fair...its wayyyyyy to early to start using stats to try and force a point across, Im a huge fan of stats and even Im not trying that one just yet!

At least wait until we've played 2 at home and 2 away...we created a fair few chances against Mansfield and missed 2 sitters...York was a hard though score draw...then we played Pompey away. In between we did very well at Wolves. Net result = totally inconclusive.

Its just down to personal opinion, on whether you think the players we have are capable of producing a decent team between them. I think they are more than capable. The 'group' will be tweaked here and there along the way, but thats the case with any team.

I have three concerns at the moment:

1. Building a team around O'Toole. I hope we don't and so far it looks as if we are trying to. I accept it might work but I have reservations that it will.
2. The right back position. The kid doesn't look up to it at the moment. Harsh after 4 games but he needs moving out of the team now before his confidence is shot.
3. Midfield cover due to injuries.

Anyone know who yesterday's new signing was?

"It is understood that talks with a replacement have already reached an advanced stage, with manager Chris Wilder having discussed terms with an out-of-contract left-sided midfielder who has age-group international honours to his name and has made more than 200 senior appearances, most of them at a higher level."

Any thoughts?

I seem to remember Bayo scoring 15+ goals a couple of seasons ago in a pretty sterile midfield which you seem to conveniently omitted from your expert analysis. In any case Marquis would add bite to a pretty toothless forward line which was evident on Tuesday night. We have the same underlying problem as we had last year - forwards who make little or no impression during a game which of course leads to lack of goals. Until we find a remedy to this underlying problem we may well have yet another troubled season.

I agree about Alfei and was surprised we didn't go with Tozer at York. He came on for Alfei at Wolves and did a good job calming things down as he had a tough night against their winger. CW talks about looking to move some players out on loan to make way for new signings. I have to think BT must be packing his bags right now!

It would appear Chris Wilder doesn't agree with you

“One of the best things about our team so far this season has been the partnership Ivan Toney has formed with Marc Richards, we’ve been very pleased with that.

“John-Joe O’Toole has also done well for us playing off the striker and David Moyo has really kicked on in training too so we have a lot of options up front.
