I wonder if Wilder has taken note of this ,

“We have got an agreement that his loan deal will be extended, so fingers crossed that all goes through,” Tisdale said. “I think we have got a front three. I’m talking about them as a front three [Graham Cummins, David Wheeler and Nicholls]. The fact that Alex Nicholls drops back into midfield, willingly and effectively, is an extra pat on his back.

“I’m going to require all three of those players to play the way we need them to, which is to be all action and mobile, and Alex has been the ignition for that. He sparked us off.

“He’s a very good mover. I have not seen a forward for a long time at our club think as sharp and put pressure on the opposition as he does. I’m not talking with the ball, I’m talking defensively. He is a real, real team player up there. I have not seen a forward play that well for a long time for us from a defensive point of view.”

From what ive read their fans are hoping we will let him go in Jan. I really hope this is not the case as I feel he has a lot to offer us and fully fit I would rather him than John Joe and Emile on work rate alone. It be be horrible to think could release him and be stuck with 'doing us a favour' JJ

Nico will be back with us by Jan,  Fully fit and firing ..... Wilder likes what he brings as a player, hence why he is out getting match and mentally fit.

If Wilder did let him go in January, the whole of Sixfields would be burnt down!

His contract is until January, surely then it will be up to the player? If he gets himself settled in Exeter, likes the place and wants to stay and if Exeter offer him a deal that he considers is better for him than any we might offer, not necessarily financially but maybe more opportunities to start each week, then the decision may be an easy one for him. He wont belong to us, he'll be a free agent, it will be up to him, not Wilder.

Think this is the most likely scenario. If he was ever in Wilders long term plans why ship him out on loan at all ? He could have got back to fitness here and probably have forced his way into the first team eventually , someone is bound to get injured.
For me a six month contract just about says it all.
Goodbye Alex and thanks.

Is that part of the redevelopment?

It's amazing D'Ath ever got games with his 6 month contract.

Nonsense - Exeter in desperate need of players and Alex wasn't going to get in our first team but needed match practice - the loan out makes perfect sense all round. If he can get back to his best he'll be back here in a flash.

Err because he hasn't played for nearly two years and he needed some match practice. There's a huge difference between being physically fit and being match fit - the latter can only be gained through game time and at the moment there are players ahead of him in every one of his preferred positions.

Exeter was the perfect destination for him because their transfer embargo and lack of other forward options meant that he was pretty much guaranteed starts. Very few other teams at this level would have taken a gamble on someone who had spent that much time out injured.

Things can change very quickly in football. It would only take an injury to Hackett, Richards or even D'ath for him to come right back into the first team picture. Nicholls is a versatile player and he could fit into Wilder's system in several different positions. I suspect that at this point Wilder is open minded about Alex's future.  Anyway, whatever happens it's great to see him playing, scoring and enjoying his football.

Excellent explanation...  Wink

With Richards out, I would have thought that Wilder will seriously be considering Nico a recall.

If Richards is still out on Saturday and we don't recall him then they may as well sign him over as an Exeter player now. Wycombe will be a more difficult proposition than Morecambe.

If Rico isn't fit for Saturday it's a no-brainer to recall him surely?

He's our player and he'll undoubtedly strengthen the matchday squad so we may as well use him - we've been waiting for 2 years and so has he!

Seems to have found good form playing for Exeter too...

I wouldn't hold out too much hope of on him staying here. He only has a contract until January and I reckon that Exeter will want him more than us, by which time he'll probably be settled down there anyway. Wilder won't guarantee him a starting place (subject to other major injuries) and I'm sure Alex wants to be playing as much as he can after having his career well and truly on the line.
I hope not but can't see it playing out any other way. You can't blame us for not offering him a longer contract but it means he'll move on for nowt. Such is football.

I am I right in thinking he can talk to other clubs now as he is in the last six months of his contract?
Wouldn't surprise me if a deal is already agreed in principle for him to join Exeter permanently.
