At least we got the points this time. I'd rather win ugly than lose pretty like Chesterfield, sickener that was. But a loss to Lincoln could see us back in the drop zone, so let's hope this ain't a one-off!

Did anyone notice the 10 or so Gillingham fans who turned up in Halloween fancy dress? Fair play to them, thought they were terrific and you could actually hear them singing when they were sat on their own at the south end of the east stand, after being moved out of the south stand (assumably because their costumes were obstructing people's views).

I saw a bloke in what I thought was a terrific Frankenstein's Monster costume, but it turns out it was just Andy Hessenthaler. Wink

Great turn out from the Gills fans especially considering their recent away record

They obviously fancied a win opportunity

From our point of view...great to win ugly!

I saw them walking up towards the bus stop while I was in waiting in traffic and they were having a good time even after another away defeat for them. Two of them had a bit of mock fight and disappeared down the bank  Cheesy

I think they were more likely moved because there were not enough seats for them in the away stand - fair play to their 886 fans, good turnout for a team with such a poor away record, would have been a very poor attendance without them!

Hessenthaler clearly has the selective eyesight of Wenger!

I thought Gillingham were a really dirty side. God knows what Hessenthaler is on about when he says the penalty was a joke, Lawrence bloody rugby-tackled Beckwith, and the penalty wasn't the only time he did that, just the only time he got caught- in fact one of our players had earlier pointed out what Lawrence was doing to the lino, who kept an eye out for it from there on in.

That aside, their diving antics (the best example being McDonald's tumble in the box early on, but there were several more), their going in hard on several of our players (that no.3 clearly knew about Leon's dodgy knee as he was targeting it) and their general lack of sportsmanship (hoofing it out for a defensive throw-in from which they got an attack going, rather than passing it back to Dunn, after we'd put it out of play so their man could get treatment) was an absolute disgrace. Hessenthaler is a knob and his team play horrible, horrible football. Delighted they didn't get anything here.

Good banter with away fans ouside ground, I sold them lots 50:50 tickets. A Gilly guy opened up his wallet (well more of a purse really) and he had a typed ticket saying "Billy Mckay". Whats that? I asked. "Oh, us mates have a goalscorer lottery 'cos Gills don't score away and I got him and Liam Davis, are my chances good?" he asked. "Yes I replied BM's a striker but the LB is more likely to score - he's on fire!! " This puzzled him first but then was happier with his chances, so he bought more 50:50 tickets!! Sorry gilly guy - bad day, but ta for support! P.S. Those Osama bin liner and rest in Halloween were hoot, couldn't sell them a lottery ticket though.
