Title: Sc***horpe 28.1.2020
Post by: Manwork04 on January 28, 2020, 08:31:35 am
So will any of the new signings start tonight?
My guess is super Sam moves up front with Williams dropping to the bench and Marshall left wing back.

Good shout.
Will Macca be fit and available?

Wouldn’t it be more likely that Marshall comes in on the right (don’t know if he’s ever played wing back but then again with us the “back” bit isn’t really always a priority) possibly to replace Hoskins? I wouldn’t want too many changes - we need to go as strong as possible in the next couple of games. If McCormack is fit then it would throw up an interesting selection dilemma.

i agree - think adams and marshall will be the wide men and hoskins to play further forward in whichever position KC sees fit - just to run around a bit

cant see either of the loanees starting - but to come on and run around - the arsenal lad for anderson after 70 minutes.

Agreed, I said I saw Marshall as a replacement for Hoskins purely on the Youtube videos of him playing, flying down the right and putting crosses in. Whether this means that Hoskins gets pushed up front to partner Oliver in the classic "little and large" partnership remains to be seen.

Not too many changes needed, don't go upsetting the balance of the team and personnel who are dropped, as they'll all need to come back in for the replay next week.

Nah, he'll drop Williams, would not be surprised if he moves on or before deadline day, providing we can bring in a replacement (Hylton?)

KC has never really rated Williams, and if we can get a fee before his contract expires, I think we'll take it

Don't disagree with this. I reckon Williams could go, but like you intimate, only if a decent replacement is lined up.  He's 34 this year as well. We need a goal scorer and if we were to spend decent wedge on one, the obvious player to make way would be Andy Williams.

As for tonight, we shall see!

maybe he already has his replacement in the lad from west brom, or hoskins if marshall plays wide...................until smith is fit again.

that would give us 4 strikers with the least goals to games ratio in history i would think

Not fussed about goals to games ratio when it comes to big Vadaine, I bloomin love him!

I've never enjoyed watching a striker who doesn't score as much as I do with Oliver

Along with his non stop effort, you just know he'll win 9 out of 10 headers...just need a fellow striker to feed off him

I wouldn't be at all surprised if KC thinks the WBA loanee is the answer to this...

Agree, no doubting he's a quality player at this level though...

Just don't let him turn & shoot in or around our box...

My favourite current player. Reminds me of John Gayle... we just need a David Seal now.

I would be surprised if Marshall starts. In his last few appearances for Gillingham he was a substitute. His last full game was against Spurs U21's in the checkatrade and that was back in November. I think a cameo appearance replacing Hoskins is most likely as he has pretty exclusively played on the right hand side throughtout his career.

I don't think there's a chance any of the three will start. Nor should they in my opinion, that's regardless of how well they are rated.

I totally agree - don’t let him turn on the edge of the box as he’s normally lethal, also we have a bit of a tendency to back off when players run at us which wouldn’t be a good idea with van veen. On the subject of David seal, he was quality for a while but then had a massive bust up with Atkins who accused him of leaking our team to the opposition, I think it was up at Stoke?

As long as Macclesfield is on...that’s game 3. If Macc is postponed then the replay would be his third game so he’d still be out.

Our record overall is not too bad ....but not so in recent times, having not won since 2006/07 and some real batterings at their place, together with us not laying a glove on them earlier this season.

So what will the outcome against Scunny be tonight?

Just keep VV quiet !

Never in doubt, Olayinka carrying a knock at the end is probably the only negative? All 3 debutants look like they have added something? Olayinka was the standout of the 3. Probably the biggest plus for us is that we are still a dominant force without both McCormack and Turnbull which shows how far we’ve come.

Spot on,

Looking at the lad Morgans highlights I think we can expect a lot of him turning his man, getting in behind and then drawing a foul for a cheap freekick or pen. He seems astute at it like Grealish

Comments on the gate tonight.....the lowest league home attendance since a midweek game against Carlisle in October 2015.

We sell over 3000 tickets in two days for an away Cup replay at Derby, but can't get 4000 home fans in for a league game when we're flying high and winning almost every game at home.

Great win. Goode, Oliver and Adams were all immense as is becoming the norm.

On first evidence, the three new signings have all improved us. Crucially, they will also give us potentially game-changing options off the bench which is what we've lacked this season.

Olayinka's range of passing was a cut above this level at times, but as Curle said he also has an unexpectedly tenacious tackle on him aswell given that he's an Arsenal loanee. He drifted in and out but could be a real player for us - I just hope he wasn't too damaged by playing on with an obvious injury at the end.

Morton showed some good touches and has a nice blend of pace and target-man strength. Marshall was a bit rusty but you could tell that he will get to the by-line and hurt teams once he gets up to speed.

Another home win. Unbeaten in 2020, unbeaten at home since 5th October. KC certainly has 'em playing as a team. Injuries/suspensions being covered well by the squad players. New boys did well, although Marshall looked a bit rusty. And Charlie Goode, what a legend and s***housery for the KVV red card. Loved that!

What chance KC MOTM ?

An excellent overall performance, and a very comfortable win. The new signings all look very good and have seem to have slotted into the squad well. Fingers crossed that Olayinka's injury isn't too bad, he surpassed my expectations and looks a great addition. I think Marshall and Morton will get better game-one-game. Morton especially will improve with minutes on the pitch following a long injury lay-off. He will give us something different up front than our current strikers provide.

Incredible to think we were without Wharton, Turnbull and McCormack, yet we still produced a performance like that tonight. It really feels like we have a strong squad now, with plenty of depth.

Mentions also for Oliver, Goode, Watson and Hoskins who were all excellent. Hoskins impressed me in particular, I thought he was superb at times tonight, It was a close run thing between him, Goode and Oliver for MOTM.

It really feels like the momentum is with us.

Final word about KVV - what was he doing?! He was getting a bit of stick by individuals in the North Stand when he was taking a couple of corners. Following the second he was jogging back up the pitch, turned to look at the crowd and mouthed, 'f*** off!' a couple of times, and then gave a middle finger salute. Then came the Goode incident a few minutes later........unbelievable stuff. I didn't know whether to laugh or feel embarrassed for him. What a tool - but a memorable moment for sure!

We have to sign another centre back because we will not get away with Harriman and Martin playing there for long , as commendable as they have been . Williams seems to be right out of the picture sadly .
Goode’s sh*thousery is funny but he has to be careful of his reputation because it’s happening all of the time now .

I thought Harriman has looked comfortable as centre back on the strength of the last 2 performances and was quite impressed with Martin last night after not thinking much to him  as a wing back. I would say that we could get by with these 2 as cover if the right player isn't available, though I would be tempted to get Williams back and in the squad.

Totally right. He got more frustrated as the game went on and put his head in late to Martin's face (breaking his nose?). Then minutes later he swung at Olayinka which could have caused long-term damage!

Surprise, surprise Hurst never mentioned the damage he done but thought Goode going done lightly was of more importance.

It’s so predictable to see an opposing manager come out with absolute drivel in his post match interview - yes the sending off was on the soft side but what was KVV doing raising his hands, I’m sure if it was one of our players doing it to one of his he wouldn’t have moaned. I thought the ref let them get away with murder - the challenge on Olayinka was worth a red card in itself, he missed at least one blatant penalty and after booking Watson in the first minute then went on to be inconsistent for the rest of the match. I though that Harriman was superb for the second game running in an unfamiliar role, I just hope that Turnbull is back for Saturday as I have little confidence in Martin.

I've been less than complimentary of Martin recently but in fairness he did pretty well last night. Not that comfortable when he found himself in possession but did a sound job of preventing attacks, which in the end is what a defender is there for.

It was nice to see some sympathy from Curle when he came off the pitch with his nose spread all over his face and claret pouring everywhere... Did he say "Are you OK Joe?" or "Bloody hell, that looks nasty"? Nope, he bellowed at the physios "GET HIM BACK ON!"  ;D

As pointed out earlier, their No.15 only got a yellow for that "assault" and KVV gets a red for very little, I will admit that we all enjoyed watching him walk but that's because he's an arrogant prat. A bit like last week at Orient, 2 players get reds for a bit of pushing and shoving, which is not going to any serious injury but there was a foul on Anderson, just before half time, that could have caused him a serious injury, and the bloke got a yellow. The FA need to sort this out, the sentence needs to fit the crime !

A great result for us and ideal results in and around us also.

The main positive for me was Olayinka, it was obvious from early on in the game that he has quality. His ability to intercept and win the ball back was similar to how Mcwilliams breaks up play. The difference being that Olayinka then passed the wall out wide quickly, and then continued his run which was key. That left Adams one on one with the full back on a few occasions and with his ability to cross with either foot is going to create chances. Thats exactly how the first goal came about but the same phases of play occured a few times throughout the game which is promising.

Our main goal threat is from out wide, so the more ball we get to Adams in particular the better. Sometimes it can be difficult to get it to him when we are going direct, relying on second balls etc. We are good at that without doubt, but the more our midfield can get it wide quickly after winning back possession the better. Olayinka seems to have the ability to do that whereas Watson / Lines have a different style of play.

I would like us to get another CB in for sure. Harriman struggled at times with his distance between Adams / Goode (although Eisa looked like a really good player so I can understand the difficulty). Martin did ok, but didnt seen confident when to attack the ball or drop back. It really highlights how effective Wharton, Goode and Turnbull are as a back 3 to me.

The two other loanees showed glimpses which is good news. Certainly both bring pace which we were in desperate need of.

All in all a good win and keeps us chasing down an auto spot!

Yes it was. They were both cowardly challenges as our lads made genuine attempts for the ball. T****R No 15 was late with both challenges. He also, after going down after he'd laid Martin out, argued with the ref that he shouldn't have to go off the pitch to come back on when play restarted. For what its worth I thought the ref was very poor. Booked Watson after 1 min. There were loads of fouls as bad as his one and took no action for ages. IE 1st half.

Decent game last night, Scunny reminded me absolutely, of what we were last season, particularly before KC took over.

Attack - get caught out, 0-1.
Attack - get caught out, 0-2.
and repeat...
Coupled with zero 'game management' ability, a tendency to lose shape very easily and hearts over ruling heads.
Lots of expensive players, with dubious characters.
15th/16th in the league, having been in the bottom 3 early doors and relegated the previous season.
KVV playing for them.

A year on, we are a robust team full of heart. We play with our brains, first and foremost. We are ruthless, with and without the ball. We resolutely stick to our beliefs, and game plan. We have an excellent dressing room, with no obvious factions within it.

Last night, Scunny played like a sunday league team. We didn't. And that pretty much sums it up. KVV getting sent off, best singular moment of the season in many ways so far. Hilarious! Harsh but Karma Id say. Karma...

Worth mentioning, blatant penalty Scunny should have had when it was 1-0 v 11 players. We got lucky there.

All in all, the luck we got last night evened itself up from last Tuesday. Cup luck (Goode v Derby) doesn't count towards league points. We've taken 4 points from the last 2 games, all things equal thats a fair return in my book.

The subs didn't weaken us, far from it. That was telling last night. VERY telling. The Arsenal kid was superb, in particular.

I wanted an attacking number10, a winger and a striker this window. We've got all 3. In an ideal world we will go and get a big money proven front man with some of the cup money, but if we don't then so be it. We've clearly got a great dressing room, and we don't need any billy big b@llox turning up and ruining in it like the bloke now playing for Scunny!  (Their number 30, black guy on the left wing looked bloody good mind).

Agreed. Their number 30 looked a very good ball carrier and a constant threat with his pace and dribbling. However, I also thought there were quite a few times where he got into great positions but his end product was lacking (e.g. tamely shooting at Cornell or delivering a poor cross). It woould be interesting to hear what the Scunny regulars think of him.

Abo Eisa

On 15 August 2019, Eisa signed for League Two side Sc***horpe United on a two-year deal, reuniting with former Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst.

He's the brother of Mo who's at the scum

Paul Hurst and his assistant Chris Doig have left Sc***horpe after last nights defeat. Should think that they were too happy with KVV  ;D

Absolutely loved the KVV sending off. Enjoyed Goodes reaction to the West stand even more. Good old school football at it's best.

They troubled us a bit down the left, but the flanks can be exposed with our formation. Other than that, we had it in the bag.

Well done to all at NTFC.

Hysterical to see everbrite's mate Rudolph van Petulant sent to bed early with no tea. Worth 22 quid on its own.

Is suggesting Vent Spleen gets another poor sap the chop a bit harsh? Very difficult getting the working conditions right for the dressing room clog really?

Interesting observations on their number 30 - agreed he was pivotal in many of their attacks with lots of pace and a willingness to run at players - but asa you mention his final ball was frequently wasted - as the Hoskins knockers have spouted for a couple of years (although thankfully a bit quieter of late)
