Him and The Queen have been a good pair, he may not have been perfect but had a good excuse, he's a human being!
I quite liked his straight forwardness, he called a spa...  oops! sorry!

73 Years of relentless duty and service, and a distinguished military career defending a nation prior to that. Typically itís being widely commented that he was notoriously guilty of the odd verbal gaff. However, in light of his service record, the royal family will no doubt be delighted to learn that personally Iím prepared to cut him some slack?

One suspects Jimbo that there will be a minute applause prior to kick off? As this mark of respect is likely to be the most activity our side engage in on the pitch all afternoon, I feel this topic is most relevant?

I've never been a huge fan of the Royal family but my views have softened considerably as I've got older. I've come to appreciate the pomp and ceremony and the character it gives our country at a time where it's sadly lacking in character.

That said, I've always liked Prince Philip. He was old school and unapologetic about it. He said what he thought and to hell with it. He's served our country in some way, shape or form all his long life, not least of which as an actual, genuine war hero.

Given all this, I was quite taken aback yesterday to see the sheer amount of bile being spewed out on social media decrying him as a racist and revelling in his death. It has to be said, most of it coming from left leaning Guardianista types who consider themselves morally superior to the rest of us mere mortals.

I think what they miss is that he took the proverbial out of people at will. And he took it out of everyone, irrespective of race, colour, creed, age, disability or status. He was consistent in his interactions with others and I think that's the very best form of equality - nothing treated as sacred, no tip toeing around or brushing things under the carpet, just  absolute honesty and never with malicious intent.

I sometimes think certain people won't be happy until the whole world is as bland and anodyne as they are. Sadly, losing Prince Philip takes us another step in that direction.

And thatís exactly why it shouldnít be on this Forum - this sort of post will encourage  political views and posts which I regularly get told are not acceptable on here?
I canít escape this subject where ever I turn and as someone who has lost 2 loved ones in the last 12 months under 60 years old, I personally want a bit of respite from wall to wall coverage of a privileged (but Iím sure very nice) old boy that had more than his fair share of an innings.
Surely those that want to discuss this can watch blanket  coverage on all the tv, press and radio outlets?

Exactly. But the mods may do as they please and seem to lock threads on a whim, unless it conforms to some sort of hierarchical
superiority. If for example, anyone else had started a thread on say, David Bowie RIP,  Sean Connery RIP, Christopher Hitchens
RIP, it would have been locked or moved very quickly.

Well said Shoey. Iím waiting for Eversí justification for his strong views as to why this should remain on a Cobblers football forum. That said, Iíve been listening to Radio Numpty a bit this morning and they were reporting with pride that the DoE came to Corby in 1961. Is that your reasoning Evers?
Letís get it moved before we descend into something no one wants us to be!

I think Iíll spend my time on that forum for the rest of the afternoon  - donít suppose Iíll be missed anyway as Thehotelend will be busy discussing the monarchyís future in reestablishing old fashioned British values and bringing back that good old Empire spirit. Enjoy!

I'm not quite sure where the ire is coming from here. I thought we were just having a conversation about the issue of the day, you know, like normal grown-ups with an interest in a slightly wider range of topics than NTFC. Personally, I'm not anal enough to care whether a subject is filed under the right section or not; the subject pretty much tells you what the conversation in this thread is going to be about. If it doesn't interest you, don't read it.

You're missing the point. If anyone else had started a thread on a dead celebrity that the mods weren't interested in it would have been moved/locked in no time. Don't think there's  a lot of ire going on and I'm sure most people on here have a fair amount of interest in a much wider range of topics than NTFC I know I do, it's just that this is an NTFC forum where people discuss and opinionate on the ups and downs of a fourth, sorry third division football team, particularly this section of it.

Saw Motorhead at the County as well, about '76, as did Baldy and only about 200 or so there. Seen Hawkwind about 80 odd times at least and Mick Ronson was definately never in them, nor were any of the royal family!

Saw Motorhead at the County as well, about '76, as did Baldy and only about 200 or so there. Seen Hawkwind about 80 odd times at least and Mick Ronson was definately never in them, nor were any of the royal family!

That was number of times played at The County

Yes, B side of '76 single ,"Kerb Crawler" and as a bonus track on later cd release of " Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music".
This is a much more interesting discussion  than the original thread. Amazed  but very happy that it's morphed into an interesting music discussion. It'll definately get locked, or moved now.

Saw Hawkwind at Reading Festival when Stacia was still dancing with them **** (shock, horror!). As I remember they headlined one night with Yes and Wishbone Ash the other two nights. Both Yes and Hawkwind were famous for their light shows but I particularly remember Dr Feelgood and Alberto Y Los Trios Paranoias who had a profound effect immediately before Punk Rock exploded into being. I don't think Philip Mountbatten was there but I could be wrong.

Beat me. First time I saw them was Glastonbury '81, along with Gong and Roy Harper, don't remember a great deal about it, even though I was definately there!  Don't  remember seeing the Queen there though, although Lady Di could have been there in disguise.

Yes.

New date/time to be announced shortly. All 32 EFL games with 3pm kick-off times are affected.

Now you are talking. Gong at the County Ground in 1976 was a belter. First time I think I smoked a joint in public! Camembert Electrique had been released on Virgin for 59p (same cost as a single) and listening to them was certainly mind-blowing. I am sure Charles Windsor was there but it may have been an illusion.

In 1981 Kiss performed at the County Ground with Iron Maiden private do for Lord Hesketh and Alan Lamb, only two of the original 4 man team where present. The week before they were performing in Sweden for a Swedish Princess.

I was working in Brunei in the early 90s and it was Prince Jeffery's birthday and we were invited up to one of the palaces. Elton John, Diana Ross and the LA Lakers were there alledgedly earning a million dollars each for the evening and for a "dry country" the booze flowed like water.

Look it up gate crashers anonymous - I put on my old school tie and shinned over the House garden wall backing on to the show. Kiss were not too bad but Iron Maiden were awful and grotesque. Had a long chat with Subba Row and had a decent dance with one of Heskeths sisters. His mother frightened me to death with her patch which made dancing a problem.

You're a bit of a dark horse Evers, surely it was Iron Maiden who weren't too bad and Kiss who were awful and  grotesque and anyway, what were you doing as a 40 odd year old, shinning it over a wall to a private do and hobnobbing with a load of posh twats?

The Beatles Group from Liverpool played the ABC cinema close to the Mounts twice in '63. Two years later their mates The Rolling Stones from Chelsea (where a lot of posh twats and Russian hitmen now live) also featured at this venue. It is said if you listen carefully on All Souls night you can still hear the sound of pop stars lamenting the loss of groupies.

So like SOG you prefer a Republic with more corruption and hangers on than Bolivia or Putins Russia! Surprised that you along with SOG want Corbyn as a president and his bro as a Chancellor ;D

That's actually a really good point. I've noticed the 2 minutes silence got reduced to 1 minute quite a few years ago. Recently "a moments" silence has crept in which usually lasts around 30-45 seconds.

There no reason His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, Baron Greenwich, Royal Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Extra Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Member of the Order of Merit, Grand Master and First and Principal Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Knight of the Order of Australia, Additional Member of the Order of New Zealand, Extra Companion of the Queenís Service Order, Royal Chief of the Order of Logohu, Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Canada, Extraordinary Commander of the Order of Military Merit, Lord of Her Majestyís Most Honourable Privy Council, Privy Councillor of the Queenís Privy Council for Canada, Personal Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty, Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom should have an extra minute following his death.

BBCís Prince Philip coverage breaks UK TV complaints record
Jim Waterson Media editor
Mon, 12 April 2021, 5:39 pm
The BBCís wall-to-wall coverage of Prince Philipís death has become the most complained-about moment in British television history, as viewers expressed their annoyance that shows such as EastEnders and MasterChef were replaced with royal tributes.

At least 110,994 people have contacted the BBC to express their displeasure at the decision to turn most of the corporationís TV channels and radio stations over to rolling tributes to the Queenís husband.

BBC One and BBC Two dedicated Friday eveningís programming to Philip, and their ratings fell as viewers switched off altogether, turned to streaming services or watched shows such as Gogglebox on Channel 4.

According to an internal BBC complaints log seen by the Guardian, an unprecedented level of viewer feedback was received over the weekend, meaning the coverage appears to have elicited one of the most negative reactions to BBC programmes ever seen.

One example comment from a member of the public included in the log said: ďCoverage of this event took up the entire evening broadcast to the exclusion of all other topics, including the ongoing topic of the pandemic. Some coverage was justified, but not to this extent.Ē

Another said: ďIt was sad news Prince Phillip [sic] died on Friday and I understand the BBC had to acknowledge the fact but on every single one of its channels? Why [not] just put it on one channel for those that want to listen to that drivel and the rest of us can have a bit of music.Ē

Within hours of Philipís death the number of complaints about the coverage had become so large that the BBC set up a dedicated form in an attempt to streamline the process. This form was then taken down on Sunday, making it harder for people to register their displeasure.

The previous record for BBC complaints is believed to be the 63,000 objections to the 2005 decision to broadcast Jerry Springer: The Opera, following criticism from Christian groups.

The BBC declined to comment on the leaked weekend figures and said a formal announcement would be made as planned on Thursday.

Only the BBC would create a form for this one complaint, so it was easier to record the numbers, itís time this tired old mouthpiece for the liberal elite of London was ended, spending taxpayers money on c***s like Lineker and Shearer on a combined salary of £3million. Have a look at the salaries of newscaster, on average between £250k and £500k p.a. It simply ridiculous.
Boris is decriminalising not paying for the BBC thought police to tell the hard of thinking that the EU is like Babylon and the Police are racist facist scum, they take endless opportunities to stir up racial hatred with coverage of BLM protest over some criminal who was murdered by a foreign old bill.
I say fcuk the BBC donít pay your licensing fee and save £150 simple.

Appreciate your initiative to use that bastion of left minded news ĎThe Guardianí. What you fail to mention is that the viewing figures dwarf the complaints particularly the Week End figures. Regrettably the media will be subtlety deaf if viewing figures are good. Bit like Astra Seneca Vacine!

Completely agree I donít see the point of putting the same programming at the same time on both tv channels. There is a big enough proportion of people against or indifferent to the royal family (with that only growing as years pass) that people should have been given a choice.

I understand that he was all but an unofficial joint head of state but agree the wall to wall coverage was OTT.

Watch Russian Doll on Netflix instead.

It did feel strange that the TV stations replicated the same broadcast, as did all BBC radio stations on the day with 'chill out' music the following day.
I'm sure the country will shut down when the Queen passes.
There always seems to be a dominant thread in the news these days, whether it was Brexit, Covid or now this.

As for the BBC it should either be abolished or they should become a subscription channel like Netflix. It used to be the finest broadcasting corporation in the world, now it must be one of the worst.

All they seemed (the Media) to find is kids laying flowers and ex D of Edin Awards people with one young bloke saying how it changed him for the better. Regarding mainly old people commenting not to sure about that, as once again particularly the Media seem to capture the not so old doing the homage! Lot of support will come from the Armed Services incl ex services personnel. Don't think you can generalize as there is too much evidence of a broad swell of support. Just my opinion; said the Bishop to the Actress!

Hallelujah, the Cobblers being the only league 1 game to be played on Friday finally justifies this as an NTFC forum  topic.
Hats off to our Mods they obviously knew this is how things would pan out. Still not sure it worthy of so much Cobblers fans banter though? I personally am not a fan of political threads on a fans forum - there is enough for us to find differences with if we stick to Cobblers subjects, so when we open up to this nonsense it just depresses me that people who have so much in common with me (one of the 0.00005% of UK population that actively support the Cobbs) can have views that I personally find very depressing.
Now is surely the time to move this bollocks to the Doris thread?

It also makes the point for the BBC. Who do you think gives more unbiased views:
1) A political motivated individual American (Comcast)
2) A political motivated Australian (Sun and Times)
3) 2 political motivated British brothers (Telegraph)
4) A political motivated British Viscount (The Mail)

I noticed you've not included the left wing biased media from your list so for balance...

Channel 4 news - I watch this every night, I like the presenters, even though its politically VERY left wing. I guess its a bit like a Cobblers fan listening to the away commentary on iplayer!
The Guardian - hate mongering rag, on an absolute par with the Daily Mail but the other extreme/agenda. 'Intelligent' nutjobs read it.
The Mirror - thick people who find the Guardian a little bit too complicated.

Id consider myself a centrist, in some ways I'm right of centre, others left of centre. I haven't bought a newspaper for at least 15 years. Used to buy the Sun, read it back to front. Always found the sport an easy read whilst having lunch in my Mondeo when I was a sales rep. Rest of it was utter nonsense lol. Wouldn't feed it these days though, I've become more principled as I've got older!  ;D

Id consider voting for Labour if they got rid of the Corbyn element, which they are no where near to achieving. Find more of their prominent MP's despicable than I do Tory ones.

A solution for me would be for the momentum seeking lefties to fcuk orf and build their own unelectable party, and then Labour could provide a decent viable alternative. Labour would get far more voters like me than they would lose voters who are Momentum sympathisers. They can take Abbot, Corbyn and McDonnell with them, of course. As things stand, Id only vote Tory out of the three main parties in a general election because for me they are the least bad of the three options!!

If you are that bothered about the balance of the news you are fed seek out other news sources a make a balanced viewpoint of your own.
We live in a age that is conrolled by the media, this is why there will always be a political agenda from every source available.
I read pretty much anything I come across from the Loony Left to the Reichstag Right, from those in Kaftans to those in Foil Hats.
I always come back to the usual conclusion and accept none of what I hear or read, and half of what I see.

Isn't it funny, that this thread is allowed to run and run despite all the political bulls***,  jingoism and other nonsense.
I'm not complaining, some of the posts on here are unbelievably naive and quite comical and it's quite interesting and sometimes pretty surprising, even though I don't know most of the posters, which colours they nail to their masts. Incidentally, who are the best popstars, who were alive at the time but are now dead that the moderators have ever seen?

Keep up Drilling. I fully Accept your balanced comments but if you re read my post I included the left leaning Roberts  family. My point was, that you have further made for me, is that we shouldnít believe any news that you can trace to a single self interested person or small group. Which is about everything on our combined list apart from The BBc.

Interestingly our politics are not that different - Iím more centre left. Proud to say I havenít voted Tory for 20 years and canít see a time that I ever will again. Mind you with the 3 worst PMs representing us for the last 10 years itís amazing that any body can honestly say, that the Tories have earnt their vote!?

Spot on Shoey. I think the mods have backed themselves into a corner and now itís all a bit out of hand.
As you say though, good to see their intolerance for dead rockstars!
Personally speaking I donít think David Bowie, Prince Philip or Rupert Murdoch have a place in Cobblers Corner - but what the fcuk do I know?

Are they all racists too?  Perhaps the pro Republicans or disgruntled Corbinisto's/Euro bods are merely unhappy that they have no Grandpa worth mentioning. At least he made a fair few smile or laugh. Jolly please supply a quote (with source) made by your Old School Racist? There must be some risky ones!

Try reading what I actually said; I never once said that the thread itself annoyed me, or have I mentioned that it intensely irritates me. It's the fact that the you moderators on your high and mighty platform can seem to pontificate or advocate any thread you wish, while locking any mere mortals thread on a whim. I'm happy for it to continue so I can boast about all the dead pop stars I've seen. I'm not PC at all, Evers. I just don't like the hypocrisy. The BBC daren't show a programme without having a host of colour or diversity, and they've spent a year spouting on about BLM, and yet they're drooling over the passing of a man reknowned for his racist views. The royals hardly dare let him near a microphone for the last thirty years. ;D

I came to the conclusion years ago whilst on my travels that there are no standards of installation abroad. Even today in the fatherland the quality of the workmanship just would not get past the first inspection let alone final acceptance.

The BBC daren't show a programme without having a host of colour or diversity, and they've spent a year spouting on about BLM, and yet they're drooling over the passing of a man reknowned for his racist views.

At the risk of opening a proper can or worms here, this harks back to the point that I was trying to make (not very well to be fair) on the very first page of this thread. I wasn't looking for a debate on the monarchy vs a republic or longing for the days of empire or even to start a political debate. Maybe I should have avoided using the reference to "the left" as it is so closely associated with the Labour party, but that isn't what I was getting at.

My point was intended to be more about how everything these days is so binary. It's either right or wrong, with me or against me and there's no room for nuance.

A lot of what is said is about context and intent. We used to have a black guy in our office and there was an ongoing joke about him having a massive dick. I've no idea if he had or not, it was based upon a lazy stereotype (although it was a rumour he started, to be fair!). I also used to work with a Muslim lad. One day we were out for a walk at lunchtime and someone drove past, banging their horn and shouting. My friend waved cheerily at the car and we carried on walking. I enquired who that was and he said "Oh, I've no idea. I get that all the while since September 11th." I was really offended and angry on his behalf, but at the same time we used to make some horrific sounding jokes about him being a suicide bomber. In both cases, we all knew each other really well, knew each other's sense of humour and knew where the lines were drawn. Would any of us make those jokes to a black or Muslim stranger? No, not in a million years. Would anyone listening in on some of our private conversations consider them racist? Yes, probably, because out of context they sound it. So was everyone in those two offices a racist, or were they making a joke about race? (yes, I know Muslim isn't a race, but you get my point)

From the outside it's a grey area because it's open to interpretation. It's like those people who go to see someone like Jimmy Carr or Ricky Gervais (interestingly both very liberal types from their outlook on life who are ruthless in their comedy topics) and then complain that they are offended or the Canadian comic who's currently in court fighting a discrimination case because he took the **** out of a disabled singer in his act. In all cases I'm sure you could find instances where they could be accused of being sexist, racist, sizest, ableist, homophobic, transphobic.... but are they really any of those things, or simply making a joke about a sensitive topic that others may find offensive?

Back on the main topic, did Prince Philip actually have "racist views" or did he have a penchant for making tongue in cheek, near the knuckle, nudge and a wink comments that were intended to be taken as a joke? With the exception of the "fitted by an Indian" one which was probably more due to him being raised in a different era, I don't think there's a lot to suggest that he was. If you read the story behind it, even the infamous "spear chucking" comment was taken as a joke between him and the indigenous old boy he said it to and they both had a good laugh about it (although the old guy's son was apparently offended by it). Of course, all context and tone is removed when this is overheard and just the words get reported on, which would fall into the same camp as the aforementioned un-PC-but-non-malicious office **** taking.

Should he have known better, given his position and the ubiquity of cameras and microphones around him? Yeah, almost certainly, but that's a different matter entirely.

For my part, I think the glowing praise he's received from people of colour around the world that knew him, from the Obamas to multiple commonwealth leaders in which they joyfully recount their meetings with him says more about the man than his more-focussed upon gaffes. Would a genuine racist sit down to a meal and a drink with someone they hated or disdained and leave that person feeling like they really enjoyed the experience of dining with him? I don't think so. I have an uncle who's an appalling racist (which is why I don't have anything to do with him) and he would be unable to filter or switch off his views in that situation. That for me is the difference.

Pretty much agree with this. IMO debate has been stifled for the fear of being 'called out' on any one of a number of topics. Be that race, gender or sexuality etc. Whilst in the wings people sit waiting to be outraged on other peoples behalf, or try to impart their faceless faux intellect on others. On the most basic level you can blame social media for that.
"I'm only here for the comments".

Yeah, exactly, and then the "allowable" view of whatever the topic is becomes the accepted wisdom, not because it's empirically correct but simply because it becomes taboo to challenge it.

I'm white, I'm Male, I'm 64 years old and I'm heterosexual.
Therefore I am not allowed a point of view because I would be wrong anyway.

Yeh, history proves your point strongly for you claret.

For the life of me I canít think of one successful and influential white male heterosexual.
Itís like we just donít exist. No role models for us to look upto eh buddy?
Just a life of downtrodden misery and prejudice against us.

One day though, itíll all change.

I'm not PC at all, Evers. I just don't like the hypocrisy. The BBC daren't show a programme without having a host of colour or diversity, and they've spent a year spouting on about BLM, and yet they're drooling over the passing of a man reknowned for his racist views. The royals hardly dare let him near a microphone for the last thirty years. ;D

I fear that your views on HRH are hardly representative of current Public opinion on HRH as exemplified by BBC QT last night!

Note to self  - Maybe we should all stick to the subject that binds us (eg Cobbs) rather than the myriad of subjects that divide us and cause sarcasm blindness.

NB. Mods, please note that the note was to myself. No meant criticism of the management of The Hotel End whose mission statement to make up the rules as going along is clearly implemented and fully understood.

Most don't understand the word 'sarcasm'...they generally mean being 'facetious'. Sarcasm involves putting someone down with their comment...being facetious carries humour without the negative, personal connotation.

The Polish Lancers were more useful and gave us quite a bit of trouble at Waterloo. Most effective were the Companion Cavalry of Alexander the Great who were adept at spiking their opponents faces via their Xyston's (Lance). For the benefit of Curly they wore dashing Fluted helmets! Hun cavalry were also useful.

The actual craft of the cavalry was the abilty to take their horses and all of their kit and themsleves 40 - 50 miles in a day and at the end still be in a fit condition to fight, bearing in mind that the man rode five miles then walked five. They have endurance races for horses today, but nothing like the rides back then and certainly not with the weight.

Nobody has defrauded anybody, what you've said there is very libelous and would see you in court if Lineker wanted to sue you. I would gladly provide him with any evidence he requested.
What he'll have done is used a tax avoidance system which is completely different and legal, if morally not quite right. It's certainly more legal than paying a bloke down the pub a hundred quid cash to build you a garden wall

Avoidance is legal and tax lawyers make a fortune saving people with money a fortune. Tax evasion as you point out paying some bloke in cash to build a wall and he doesn't put it through his books is a big no no. So it's SANFU. If you have money you can avoid paying tax, if you don't have money the system will do it's best to make sure you have even less.

What he'll have done is used a tax avoidance system which is completely different and legal, if morally not quite right. It's certainly more legal than paying a bloke down the pub a hundred quid cash to build you a garden wall

No names were mentioned; either in yours that I replied too or mine.

The point is, if anyone in the news is mentioned on here and has political views to the left of John-Claude Duvalier, the usual suspects will pop up and spew out hatred and diatribe.

I suggest if we all want to get upset about the actions of someone in the news then look no further than last weekís appointment of a major UK political party leader who doesnít believe in Evolution and is convinced the world is only 4,000 years old. And unlike Mr L, Edwin Poots gets to vote on every detail of our lives!

You couldnít make it up!
My vote is still for taking down political posts on Cobblers Corner but I reluctantly accept that ainít going to happen. Which is a shame cause I canít help but like the aforementioned usual suspects.

But but but, having a PoC of Jamaican descent, highlights how the Boleyn family and Anne herself were marginalised by the English aristocracy...
Suffice to say, should any white person dare to be cast in an obvious PoC role (Roots anyone?)...screams of cultural appropriation would be ringing around the colleges of Oxford, The Independent's offices and elsewhere!

Yes, or even white actors, blacked up to play African Americans in the 1915, Birth of a Nation.
Still more than a whiff of hypocrisy that those quarters lambast such depiction, whilst championing the Anne Boleyn farce!

We started watching Bridgerton after it was recommended to us by numerous friends. We made it just over halfway through the first episode before giving up, a) because it was utter shžte and b) because we found it really difficult with all the PoC playing members of the aristocracy.

Apparently it used "colour blind casting" and just cast the actor whose performance best fit the role, irrespective of colour. In a contemporary fictional production that's great and exactly as it should be.

In a period piece I find it both disingenuous and hugely dismissive of the struggles PoC have gone through in the intervening years. If people grow up now watching shows set centuries ago where non-white characters are shown in senior positions, afforded the same respect as the white characters then there's a risk they will take that as a representation of how things really were.

People talk about cancel culture in relation to the likes of Colston and Rhodes but I think this is very much the same thing and actually more harmful; if we portray a world where it's all been fine and dandy for PoC for centuries, then aren't we erasing from history the efforts of all those people who fought tooth and nail against racism and discrimination?

By the way, genuine question - why has "people of colour" become the accepted nomenclature for non-white people when "coloured people" is considered racist?

I don't care one way or the other about whether the phrase du jour is PoC, BAME or anything else, I just think linguistically it's an interesting question where essentially the juxtaposition of the same words determines whether a phrase is considered acceptable or not!

Itís because the Ďcorrectí terminology changes every 5 minutes. Iím sure itís to ensure enough people can be permanently outraged about something.

To be fair, any reparations due should be offset for the Romans' introduction of sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health.

Honestly, Evers, I've voted for many different parties over the years. I actually take the time to review policies, rather than nail my colours to any one ship. Boris got my vote last time - a decision made easy by the fact that Labour made themselves unelectable. I have to say though, as much as I don't align with Corbin's principles, at least he has some. Starmer is an insipid example of what Labour has become. A collective of ex-uni wannabes, with all the qualifications and not an ounce of backbone or common sense, and a complete lack of allingment with the man on the street. Party of the people? Not any more.

Why not just go the whole hog; The rack, thumb screws, flaying, keel hauling, burning at the stake, hung drawn and quartered, red hot pokers, removal of limbs and thatís just for the most trivial crimes.
I think some people on here would be happy to go back to the dark ages and Iím not referring to you Tel as Iím sure you had your tongue firmly in your cheek.

We don't need to go back to the dark ages for the most outrageously barbaric acts humankind is capable of (especially when inspired by ideology or religion) and surveys show many of the followers of those ideologies and religions are not exactly appalled.

Your being stupid now.

Possibly, but only as stupid as some of the right wing, nationalist, empirical, royalist jingoism we get from
certain posters. Live and let live, embrace all cultures, races and nations instead of longing to rule them.

Labour is finished as a party, Jimmy Cranky has made sure of that.
Bring back the Empire and national service.
God Save the Queen.

State of this comment.

Worst thread ever. Absolute horsehsh*t. Epitome of the bottom of the internet barrel. Devisive and littered with half truth and reference to numerous prominent fake news /  propaganda. Get off Facebook girls.

More importantly not in the least bit Cobblersí related, yet started by a moderator. Why has the thread not been moved like it is if anybody else starts something insufficiently on topic?

No, Evers. She doesn't. Neither does my missus. As for your second point: I totally support the new carriers. It's just a shame we haven't got the budget to man them both, or even fit them properly. Take a look at the specs for the new type 26 frigates, and then take note of 'fitted for, but not with.' It's a disgrace what has been done to the navy. If you're going to build the bloody things at least allow them to operate to the limit of their potential. Hopefully this is the start of putting things right, but I have my doubts.

I went down to Pompey, to see HMS QUEEN ELISABETH coming home, after leaving Rosyth. Now then, if she was to sail into Southampton, you would see the size. If however, you are in the car park/garden of the Still and West pub and see it sailing past, then you realise that it is fukcing huge. It towers above the buildings. And it is feet away.

I once dated a 21 year old who played the bagpipes. She was an extraordinarily talented young lady.
The memory still brings a smile to my face.
