Title: What, no Peter bog horror thread yet.

We need to win this, can't really see it myself for some reason, but stranger things have happened.

It would be a massive surprise to get any points from this game. We have not won any of our last 14 away (5 points out of 42) and Peterborough have scored at least 2 goals in 13 of their 19 home games and only once failed to score (0-0 v Bristol Rovers). So it appears we would need to score at least 2, something we have done in 9 of our 41 games. Let's hope they don't put 7 past us as they recently did against Accrington.
The referee, Lee Swabey, has not issued a red card all season so we be able to keep 11 men on the pitch and pray that we don't get any more injuries.
The only upside I can see is that we get an extra day to prepare for the Ipswich game.

Anything other than a spanking will be a moral victory. At least keep our GD in the
same ballpark.

We might need a deliberate hand ball penalty and sending off early doors to get anything tomorrow evening but you never know.

Pretty obvious why itís taken so long for this thread. Everyone knows we are going to get absolutely humiliated by them.

Even GPC has given up. Where's his match preview that we all enjoy reading  :'(

I wonder what the reaction will be if we do pull off a result tomorrow, it would be great to see because none of us clearly feel we can get anything other than zero points and a bad goal difference out of it.

We can all hope though.

It's difficult to see how we can get anything out of this game, with so many missing from a team that wasn't great to start with. If we concede early,  we could be in for a hiding.

Heaven help us if  Mitchell gets injured as even Berry was injured last week.

Honestly think they will batter us...they have assembled a class squad even after losing Toney (who they'll get another bunch of cash for as he's rumoured to be off to either Leeds or West Ham in the Summer for 35 million!!!)

Our squad is simply nowhere near good enough for L1 & I can see a couple of red cards for us due to getting frustrated with how easy they will toy with us.

Will be the most embarrassing derby defeat for many a year unfortunately...

I just hope that some sort of planning behind the scenes is happening regarding next season, rather than the powers that be, acting surprised when the inevitable deserved relegation is finally confirmed.

Still, unlike Posh, at least we'll have some elite supporters next season  ;D

Do not fear, I am here! The Friday night move threw me, especially as I still thought it was Wednesday today!

Anyway, a trip up the A45, A605 and A1139 to face Cambridgeshires second team, Peterborough United, affectionately known as The Posh.

They sit in second place in the league, 76 points from 40 games, meaning they are just three behind leaders Hull and five ahead of third placed Sunderland. An eight goal win against us will see them go top before the rest of the teams play catchup on Saturday.
They have the best home record in the League, winning 14 of their 19 games so far, and scoring a league best 44 goals at home in the process (10 ahead of the next best Lincoln). Only Blackpool and Hull have left London Road with maximum points, although Peterborough were knocked out of the two big Cup competitions at home by Cheltenham (EFL) and Chorley (FA Cup) too.

Current form wise, 10 wins in their last 16 games has propelled them to the brink of a return to the Championship, a stage they were last at in 2013. Manager Darren Ferguson is in his third stint as boss, 56 wins in 110 games since returning in January 2019.

They, like us didn't play midweek, that has facilitated this change to a Friday night fixture, last time out they won 3-0 at Swindon and in their last home game on Easter Monday they drew 1-1 with Sunderland.

Led in the goalscoring stakes by Jonson Clark-Harris, a £1.2m signing from Bristol Rovers in August, he has hit 29 goals so far this season, 27 in the league and is only one of two ever present starters in their squad (the other being Mark Beevers). Clark-Harris is ably assisted by midfield pairing Sammie Szmodics and Siriki Dembele who have 13 and 12 goals respectively. Mo Eisa got a rare start on Saturday as they switched from their usual 4-5-1 formation to 4-4-2.

No current Cobblers connections in their ranks so moving swiftly on to the head-to-head.... there have been 71 meetings between us and our rivals, they hold the upper hand with 33 wins to our 20. We have failed to win any of our last nine meetings in all competitions, and we have to go back to April 2006 for our last victory over the swamp-dwellers.....a Scott McGleish goal gave us a 1-0 win that day at London Road. Our last three games have all ended with 2-0 victories for our opponents, the last of those games was of course the return fixture this season when goals in each half from Thompson and Brown gave them a comfortable victory.
We have won 8, drawn 7 and lost 19 times at their place. Famous games of the past include a 6-0 Boro win in April 1984, a 5-0 Cobblers win there in 1985, and a 4-0 Cup defeat in 1994.

Making a Friday night trip up from Devon to The Fens is referee Lee Swabey. On the league list since 2015 he issued his first ever League red card to Cobblers player Jason Taylor in our 2-0 defeat at Barnet. More recently his last Posh appointment came in a 2-0 win at Bristol Rovers back in November, and his last Cobblers game saw us win 2-0 against Salford at the PTS back in October 2019.
This season he has taken charge of 27 games and doled out 62 yellow cards, but not a single red......yet!

Iím in mental turmoil over this one.

I watched Dembele take apart Swindon last week and I think at least 4-0 to them.
I then think back to the game at Sixfields earlier in the season and I think that anything under 7 would be a bonus.
Then I think .. why not, itís just 90 mins 11 v 11 - anything can happen? The team we all support never seem to do the expected. Youíd have thought we would have picked up one good result in all those recent 6 pointers wouldnít you?? So why not?
As Mr Disney once said ... if you can dream it, you can do it. Who knows maybe Mickey Mouse and NTFC will be trending on Friday night for good reasons not the expected bad?!
Up the Cobblers!

I fear the worst .
Every player has to be 100% on top of their game to even compete with them .
We have injuries and players playing with injuries .
We have no pace and no strength up front .
McWilliams will have his work cut out .
If the keeper is going to kick the ball out from goal kicks - send it into the river nene to waste time .

Anybody would think we were playing the sky blue Maccas! We are facing a s***ty bunch of Fenland oiks. It is one Div. 3 team against another, we just happen to be the under-dogs. All the more reason to spank them into the back end of next week. If motivation is lacking for this game then we may as well knock down the Pity-us arena and build a retail park just as our owners would wish.

Our boys need to be at full throttle and more to go toe to toe with them, but as much as we expect nothing, football has that weird way of throwing up the unexpected. If we have one more win this season, please let it be against the filthy fen dwelling six fingered web footed backward donkey bothering swines tonight.

Due to injuries or tactical?

Can't imagine Mitchell being dropped (even though I don't rate him) as we've no proper fit back up...

Can't see us blooding a young keeper in this, as it could potentially damage him for life, facing their potent strike force!

Due to injuries, our limited goal threat and the need to be defensively sound I would go with:

Hoskins Jones or Any two fit strikers
Mills Morris McWilliams Kioso
Sheehan Jones Horsfall Harriman

Defending this provides two solid banks of four
Attacking we have some actual width on each side
We can also flex quite easily with Watson coming and going to either 451, 4411 or 4231

To be honest I didn't think they were particularly good at Sixfields earlier this season, but we were awful that day. It was the game where we had no one in the left back position, I think we were supposed to have a wing back back but most of the time there was no one there. Even Tim on RN remarked that there was a gap wide enough for a bus in the left back position but KC failed to notice it until it was too late.

I think Mitchell is ok for L1 not completely sure why he attracts such negative reviews.
It's all about opinions but I know several 40 years + Cobblers fans who think he's the worst in that time, could that be the answer ?

I'm definitely a goalkeeping sympathizer. I actually liked Cornell and thought he was decent.
However, I don't think Mitchell cuts it at all. His positioning, kicking and decision making has been consistently poor. He has made a few saves but is a goalkeeper after all!

I think when we had some really crucial 6 pointer games and he conceded 5 out of 6 shots was the end for me. Might as well play fly keepers  ;D

So no room for Watson and possibly Rose. Agree on inclusion of Chucks

I think it would be insane to drop Watson who is our top scorer from midfield just to bring in an extra non scoring attacker, Would be happy to see Rose benched, think Chucks deserves a shot too.

For me it's on at 1am so a bit like waiting up for a Bruno Tyson fight.

You wait up all night with false hope... only to see a one sided battering.

I might sneak off to bed yet.  :-\

You did have a lot of criticism for Cornel! There was enough on here who thought Cornell like Mitchell were ok. As you rightly point
out itís all about informed opinion. Have been watching off and on since the 50ís and both above Ďkeepers fare reasonably well with past keepers. For example Gleasure, Brown, Smith,Woody, Elvy and Pickering are comparable Ďkeepers - IMO of course!

I've stated before that I didn't particularly rate Dai, but he is much better than Mitchell. Woody was streets better than either of them, that's why he played over 400 league matches, Dai just over 100 and Mitchell around 60.

Very good performance so far.

Alex Jones is a proper intelligent centre forward - we've missed that kind of hold up play and anticipation all season. Thats two pe nalties he's won us in two games.

McWilliams has been great - we need to get a new contract for him asap.

Pace against tired legs gives him an extra second or two to think about what he's going to do with the ball, which clearly helps. I've never understood the clamour for him to start every week.

The frustration is that we play the Posh and happy to takethe game to them . We look half decent. We play sides in and around us and we set up not to lose and we rarely get anything.

Set up not to lose and invariably we lose. When we can't afford not to win we actually don't look too bad. Just go for it.

Personally feel we should be playing Sheehan at left back. Sheehan started his career at left back and would bring much needed composure.

Gets said every time we go down, nothing will change, wins against the might Barrow and Harrogate and everyone will be happy again.

This is a 4th division town that gets a lucky season every now and again,
we go up we come down,
lots of bollox about we can't let this happen ever again, etc etc
and of course  it does, its grounghog day.

First game next season doubt there will be 3000 unless we play one of the big teams like Harrogate etc

Absolutely nothing wrong with the player's effort:100% today which is all we can ask.

The first half performance was very good and if we'd performed like that throughout the season we'd be in a different position.

Centre backs and McWilliams were good but I'd switch Mills for Sheehan if possible next game out. We need some composure and experience.

The central issue for me is that we have seemingly no idea how to create a chance from open play. I think overcomplicating it is a huge issue. P*sh moved the ball quickly and got simple crosses and balls over the top in early - we need to learn from that.

I do think that having a good keeper in earns you a lot of points for very little investment compared to what you'd have to pay to get a similar effect from a striker - however, the issue 100% year is the inability to create chances, and that's not on Mitchell.

I wasnít brave enough to watch iFollow and I couldnít be arsed with Radio Numpty so I really feel unqualified to make any comment about the game tonight.

Given the steady stream of fans on here talking about a 4,6 or 7 goal difference (including me!) I would have thought that tonightís result was above expectations?

If we are going to escape there are no doubt going to be easier (relatively) games than this left to do so?
It is worrying though that pens are our only hope of picking up points!
Did Jones the Goal give us any hope for the last batch of games?

Theres too many games against difficult teams left I'm afraid. It wasnt our worst performance, but the Bristol Rovers, Wimbledon, Burton results have sunk us already. Teams left are ones we'd have to be lucky to beat, and we're not going to be lucky enough. That was also the case tonight anyway.

First half we did well, took the game to them and were in the game, but for all our endeavour, we just lack the quality to compete at this level. The only real time P*sh put any effort in they got the first goal.

The Fen dwellers came out, knocked it up a gear after half time and without really breaking sweat, there was only one winner. 25 minutes later it was game over and they saw it out.

Safe to say we won't be seeing them again for a long time.

I agree with this.

McWilliams, Lloyd Jones and Watson are all out of contract at the end of the season. I also assume that Chucks will be out of contract.

The number one priority right now should be to secure them all for another two years. Keeping them would give us the spine of a very strong L2 side; losing them would mean that we would have to rebuild virtually from scratch.

McWilliams is the kind of player you can build a team around. I'd say he was the most dominant midfielder on the pitch in the first half yesterday. Both him and Chucks have the potential to play at a higher level and it would be nice to see us keeping hold and developing our assets for once rather than losing them for peanuts (c.f. Toney).

The best thing about last nights game for me, apart from Sammy's penalty, was Tim's Chris Kamara moment. The 4th official puts the board up and it shows a red 10 and a green 11 and Tim was convinced it was a Peterborough substitution, but couldn't get his head round it as Dembele had already been subbed. It never occurred to him it was our sub and clearly never noticed that Alex Jones was in the stands and Korboa was trotting on to the pitch. He then kept calling Korboa Chuckwuemeka every time he touched the ball seemingly not noticing the real Chuck was on the right side of the pitch whereas the false Chuck was on the left. I was waiting for the moment when he said, 'and Chuckwuemeka passes the ball to er Chuckwuemeka' but sadly it never came.

He did finally mention Korboa's name but never acknowledged the fact Jones was off the pitch. I can only assume someone had a word in his ear, for his sake I hope it wasn't the Peterborough commentator.

You have to love our Tim !

Probably!!

We shouldn't really wish them away.....the Premier League becomes devalued, the FA Cup and EFL Cup even more than they are already, the TV revenue gets slashed and everyone ends up losing out, from the other PL teams right down to grassroots.....all because of the greed of 6 clubs with their foreign owners and their foreign mercenary players?

As I said, shows their utter contempt for real fans and all teams at all levels. But the sheep will continue to blindly "support" them
from their armchairs the same as normal. Not sure everyone will end up losing out though. Everyone else will be on a more level playing field and big money won't be the be all and end all. How did we all manage before the premier league and how much does the money realistically filter down to the lower leagues and grassroots. Would we all be going out of business without the premier league and are teams like Bury where they are because of the unfair distribution of wealth, where the rich get richer etc etc.

Well we wouldn't have got the £550k to keep us afloat this season for a start.....I get your point though......football finances need a total overhaul, this could be one way of levelling up as you say.

Or. if the money was more evenly distributed we'd have got more.

A bit of a premature reaction last night, letting off their celebratory promotion fireworks in the first half when they were 2-0 up!!  ;D ;D ;D

They could yet blow their auto promotion chance despite being 8 clear of Lincoln. They play Lincoln on Saturday, so defeat would close the gap to 5. Lincoln then play their game in hand on Tuesday and if they win reduces the defecit  to just 2 points. Then it would all be down to their last games. Stranger things have happened.

That would be incredible, it would add new levels to the Bottlejob FC nickname  ;D

Even better if they then go on and bottle the playoff final - McAnthony then changes his ĎEl Presidenteí title to something even more ridiculous!

Did anyone hear those 2 Poo bog horror fans on the IACTM pod? Was it just coincidence that they were a pair of complete w@nkers or does this affliction still apply to all of them? Iím going for option B personally.
