Title: Carney Chukwuemeka
Post by: Carton Lid on April 21, 2021, 18:51:10 pm
Caleb's younger brother, 17 year old Carney, is on the bench for Aston Villa tonight against Man City. Another one stolen from our set up by Villa along with Mungo Bridge !

It’s a joke, people can say the the premier league’s introduction was nothing like the proposed super league because of relegation/promotion, but this just gives a facade of competitiveness. The distribution of wealth and pillaging of youth teams means if we are really lucky, appoint the right manager and great recruitment at best we might spend an odd season in the championship before inevitably dropping back to where we usually are.

Apparently according to tele-text gossip column today (yes I still use it) Spurs are interested in Chuck.

Along with Man City. Juventus and Bayern, he is rated among the top players in Europe in his age group.

I think he is talking about Carney not Caleb  ??? But Charlatan is referring to Caleb. It's getting very confusing.

Maybe, but I read it as Charlatan saying Spurs were interested in our Caleb, then Carton Lid quoting Charlatans quote that other teams were interested in him too. Maybe some people are getting confused, maybe Carton Lid could confirm he was on about our Chucky. Either way, at least a couple of top/prem/European teams are interested in him but we're not too fussed.

Watching Carney playing for Villa U18’s - I know he’s been on the bench for Villa a few times but I wonder if they would let him out on loan next season - at least now that KC’s gone they won’t have the excuse of us playing long ball to stop him coming to us.  That Louie Barry looks a prospect too.

Really don't know why we have a whole thread on a kid who just happens to have a brother playing for us?!?
Of course Villa will loan him out to us immediately, once we tell them Bro is at ours too!  ::)

Probably because they took him from us when he was 14.

Exactly. It’s a pointless discussion, especially as he left at 14. When have we ever seen the true value of a youngster coming through? They would never become the players they do if they’d stayed put. Do you think Toney would be our first £30m striker?!
We’ve got so far to go before ever becoming a club like the P*sh who can attract the bigger bucks.
Sadly if they stick around a lot of them end up in the non professional leagues.

He left when he was twelve.

I don't understand the recent threads on twitter beating the club up over this. Young players are going to move to to bigger clubs, they always have. One of the top players in the country for his age group  is not going to be at a league 1/league 2 club at the age of 17.

Nor should players be stopped from moving on at at the lower academy age.

So I know that the originating club get additional payments when certain thresholds are met by a player acquired via the Premiership Player Pilfering Programme, but what if the player gets sold for big bucks before they have a chance to meet those thresholds?

Do we stand to get a few quid if there's any substance to the rumours?

Why is everybody wasting their time, on a Villa player? He has nothing to do with us.

I'm sure they will send us a thank you card.

Nice to see an ex-Cobblers kid doing well, he looks quite the talent.

It is if we get a % of any sale but as the whole EPPP thing is basically legalised theft I do doubt it very much

Watched him play for Villa 18's against Liverpool 18's tonight in the FA Youth Cup Final and he looked bloody good. He played 20 mins for Villa's first team against Spurs last night as well and he played the full game tonight. He has already played for England under 18's. Villa deservedly won 2-1.

If Caleb turns out to be as good as him we have a real prospect on our hands.

A player who has been on the bench for premier league games on recent occasions and is being touted as the best at his age in the country is not likely to suddenly drop to league 2..

maybe , maybe not .
Not many teams would take a punt on a player so young and our manager is a well respected coach of youth players .
plus he sort of knows people here !
I would say the wages may be an issue even if we pay a tenth of them ....

I would suggest maybe not.
He played 20 minutes at Villa on Sunday, apparently Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are interested in him for a loan if they can't buy him.

With all due respect this must be one of the most 'out there' suggestions recently. Surely he is about to break through into the Villa first team or someone is going to pay some decent money for him, although Villa probably wouldn't want to sell him just yet. He's seriously highly rated and not the same as Toney at Newcastle. They wouldn't consider getting lumps kicked out of him in league 2. I'll take the egg on my face if any club in league 1 or 2 get a sniff of his services.

Yeah, my reading of it is that basically if he's sold we get nothing. If he stays and plays 100 games though, he'll end up being our most expensive sale despite never getting to first team level, so some interest in watching what he does.

Hopefully the money is invested in infrastructure (Youth program, training facilities or the ground) rather than on the playing budget. The more I see how well the club has done with recruitment over the last couple of years on what I keep getting told is a shoestring budget, the less I want us to try and complete with those top budgets. It’s clear our budget is more than adequate to be able to complete at the top end of the table, so I’d rather see us live within our means and invest any potential extra income elsewhere.

£1 mill over the terms of the contract is the deal .
Let’s wait with anticipation what gets ploughed back in to the club shall we .
I doubt it will be too transparent

The literally explain what happens to the money in the meeting. No money get's ringfenced, it just goes into the overall budget along with all other income. So in a way, it will help fund infrastructure as we're spending money on buying long leases for exclusivity and improvements of the Moulton training facilities, but it's not ringfenced to say 'This specific £500k from here is going to this specific outcome from there'.

The article states the money will be paid in installments over several years, so I think it will be impossible for us supporters not "in the know" to track what it gets spent on. Still, I think it's important that we get serious money for players like Carney, so that clubs like ours see the value of having a strong academy.
