If there was ever evidence needed that its impossible to please all cobblers fans, then the response by some people to this web chat is surely it!

Some people need to get real.

I can't believe people are knocking the web chat.  Did they really expect DC to be giving out controversial opinions that could get him sued, transfer links that could scupper deals, and abuse GJ in a way that could make managers in the future think twice about working for him?

What DC did was open up his office publicly for us all to walk in and have a chat over a cup of tea.  I can't remember any chairman doing such a thing over the web so fans near and far can ask questions.  We should all be proud to have a chairman who is prepared to let us have such access to him, not moaning because he didn't share all the club secrets with the whole of the world.

Well done DC

Does anyone know if the latest round of "Freddie Eastwood is signing for the Cobbs" have any truth in them?

A player with great potential but also a danger of being a disruptive influence, although on the plus side his caravan will fit in nicely in one of the Sixfields carparks!!!  Grin

fantastic point, well done Lads!
85  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: If We Don't Go Down This Year on: December 26, 2011, 20:10:16 pm
I'm assuming that you either weren't there today, or you're not including the game in that assessment?

Fair point about today.  However, our challenge is to repeat that effort every week between now and the end of the season.  Over the past 12-18 months we have had many false dawns where effort/quality has shone through with the ultimate example being outplaying and outworking Liverpool on that amazing night at Anfield.  We have got ourselves in a position where we are probably going to have to produce the kind of form that gets you in the playoffs over the course of a season.  I believe we need to scrap out of danger with 4 or so games to go, as you would have to worry about the age/experience of our team in dealing with the squeaky bum games that keep you up with one or two games to go.

I am desperately trying to be optimistic, but I am more worried about our club now than I have been in a very long time.

I am a big fan of his but remain disappointed in him.
He twitters about prem players knowing nothing about football, he needs to forget his self perceived brilliance and get back to realising the division he is in.
Then he might take pressure off himself and start doing what he's been bought here for...
Score.....

Well said.

A spell in the stands might be exactly what he needs to refocus his mind and get him playing in such a way that doesn't make him look like a right knobber.

We never will...

There has been a huge improvement in our performances and I won't criticise the lads for the effort they are putting in. But we don't seem to get an ounce of fcuking luck. Not a single fcuking ounce.

I have a mate who is an Oxford fan. He always bangs on about how everything just seems to go wrong during the season you drop out of the league. he said, "everything that can go wrong, just does". That's how I feel about us at the moment. The ball seems to fall in the wrong place. The lino's are shocking. We give away fouls where there seems to be no chance of doing so. Just as the ball looks goal bound, some useless oaf of a defended, pulls of some seemingly impossible feat of athleticism and agility to stretch his leg 8 yards across the goal and deflect it wide.

As far as I'm concerned we need to forget who we can sign in January and hope someone is selling a big chunk of lady luck. Because she has well and truly left us at the moment..

And a prize of biggest c*** of the board goes to the first tw@t that says you make your own luck, without telling us what the recipe is..  Grin

The fact is that we are a poor team.  We may be having bad luck, but look at the amount of goals we are conceding that could easily have been prevented.  Its time all of the players stopped believing their own hype and started playing like their lives depend on it.  Unless they all find another 20%, we WILL go down.  Plymouth are building momentum and are highly likely to stay up, so we need to finish higher than two teams who are currently above us.  I think Barnet will go down, but I don't know who else will be worse than us.  I think the Daggers will do enough to stay up so we better hope Hereford have an injury, confidence and form crisis and fall below us.  I cannot consider us going down, the BSP is full of clubs like ours (Mansfield, Cambridge, Wrexham, Luton, Darlington, Grimsby, Lincoln and Stockport) who may well have all gone down for different reasons, but demonstrate just how hard a league it is to get out of.

Whether it is lady luck or something else, we all need to pray for an answer because failure is inconsievable.

bad times, we are just not good enough, but the big question is whether there are two clubs who are worst than us?

John Johnson, hold your head in shame, two mistakes for goals last week and sent off today, your not helping the cause.

92  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Do we need to buy a new striker on: December 19, 2011, 09:59:15 am
When the team is not doing well, its too easy to blame the strikers but you have to consider whether they are missing easy chances, or whether they are missing half chances because that is all they are getting?  IMO they are feeding off scraps and no team is going to be free goal scorers like that.  We have a midfield that neither excels defensively or offensively!  Again it is easy to blame the defence/keeper for the goals going against us but after 14 years of playing centre back in amateur teams I know exactly what it is like to play with a poor midfield in front of you, it puts you under ridiculous pressure and eventually you make mistakes and goals get conceded.

The simple fact is the best teams in any league are normally the team with the best midfield, games are won and lost there (look at Man City, Barca, chelsea a few years back, the Wenger glory years etc).  Anybody who has played football and understands what it is like to be on the pitch working your nuts off will agree with this.
93  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Do we need to buy a new striker on: December 17, 2011, 23:21:21 pm
It seems to me that we are not scoring enough goals.
We have a target man in akinfenwa but no one to score alongside him.
Robinson was bought fir the job but it seems to me he is a decent winger rather than a centre forward.
Strikers don't come cheap and I think that if we don't buy one things could become dicey.
How has it a come down to this??
I think in AB we at least have a first rate manager who can help address this.
I think the right decision regards a new striker could be the difference in maintaining our league status.
If anyone can get us out of trouble I believe AB can.

I think we are best sticking with what we have got.  The guys have goals in them, it just needs someone to bring it out of them and hopefully AB is that man.  Every club in the land is looking for a guaranteed 20 goals a season player and the reality is that they are few and far between.  What we have up front should be enough once we get the shape and system right, and then in the summer we can look to reshape the squad properly by replacing the out of contract players.  Buying a striker in January is a huge gamble, and if I was DC, not one I would be prepared to take.

his?! you mean their...

We are too reliant on Bayo and Davis.  The team without them lacks quality, it's not a bad team, just very very average
96  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Vs Bradford on: October 22, 2011, 15:52:16 pm
At the end of last season Cardoza said he would never let us get into a relegation battle again.  Here we are five months later and only the very most rose tinted glasses could think we are not in a battle.  I am really torn because I do believe GJ is a good manager, but I think it is going to be one of those situations where despite his best efforts it won't work out for him here.
