141  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: 5 game blocks on: January 27, 2024, 19:45:46 pm

Block 6 fixtures update:
Wigan H (L 2-1) 1-1
Charlton A 3-2
Shrewsbury H (L 1-0) 0-2
Portsmouth A (L 3-0)
Bolton H (L 2-1)

Shrewsbury complete the double over us. The next two both have an opportunity to do the same. I’d wager 7 points was the target for this set, can we reach it?

Still to come.
Block 7 :
Orient A (D 2-2)
Bristol Rovers H (L 2-1)
Oxford A (W 2-1)
Burton A (W 2-0)
Charlton H (W3-2)

Block 8 :
Posh A (W 1-0)
Cambridge A (W 2-1)
Blackpool H (W 2-1)
Wycombe A (L 1-0)
Derby H (L 4-0)

Block 9 :
Reading A (W 3-1)
Port Vale H (L 1-0)
Carlisle H (D 2-2)
Fleetwood A (W 3-0)
Exeter H (W 2-0)

Block 10:
Barnsley A (L 2-1)

Well the gap to sixth hasn’t changed so yes. But as said elsewhere, it’s up to KT and DB to find some funds for at least a couple of players.

143  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Shrewsbury Saturday 27th January. on: January 27, 2024, 16:24:12 pm
Well who knows what have might have happened today had we signed a couple of decent players. That's the whole point, the team as it stood is not good enough to crack on, but most of our supporters are happy with what we've got, just read the transfer thread.

Pretty much exactly my thoughts during and after the game too when discussing it on the way to the car.

We’d have been 6 points off play offs if we’d turned up, and the reason we didn’t starts with how awful the midfield was. If positive reinforcements had been made, we’d have all been believing.

As it is, just wasn’t our day today. These games happen but defo a frustrating one.

Super Sam talking about the blocks of 5; if you can find it amongst the 473528 adverts that pop up!

Glad you are keeping these blocks up to date, Dan. I was looking forward to going to Oxford but now it clashes with my allotment AGM and I'm standing for re-election on the committee. So I've got a big decision to make. I was hoping it would be in the following block or later on in this block.

Either way, its the first time an allotment meeting has clashed with an important game in one of our blocks. I'm seething.

Thank you Drilling, yes he does.

"At the start of the season, we break the games down into blocks of five and we sort of review it after every five games and see where we are.

"But we just have to keep doing what we are doing, and everything will take care of itself."

When a Cobblers legend brings it up, we know it’s here to stay. Thank you Super Sam.

Good luck with your AGM mate, get that vote!

146  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Oxford United A Now 20.02.24, not 20.01.24 on: January 25, 2024, 10:36:07 am
And is Tuesday 20th February.
147  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: First season back table on: January 24, 2024, 17:39:11 pm
Atkins 71, Carr 73 and Bowen *51

*That was when it was 2pts for a win, that would equate to 71.

Thanks John.

I have to say I’d forgotten how well the Wilson season started. It must have properly derailed towards the end!
148  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: 5 game blocks on: January 24, 2024, 17:37:55 pm
😂 appreciate that Bingers. As you say, one block at a time. Can’t be getting carried away just yet 😄

Three big games to come 💥
149  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2024 Transfer Window on: January 24, 2024, 17:36:26 pm
Budgets presumably get evaluated quite frequently when circumstances are better/ worse than forecasted.

Perhaps two examples of this could be:

1) Current league position.
2) Our highest gates since the 60s, thus far higher ticket and match day revenue that in decades.

150  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: 5 game blocks on: January 24, 2024, 17:08:57 pm
It’s potentially good timing to be playing those both as they’ve been a bit iffy recently. Apparently Bolton were very fortunate on Tuesday night.

Definitely would be helped if Sowerby is fit for them 👍🏽 It’ll be interesting to see when Oxford is rescheduled for. This block is the hardest on paper that we have, and if we get through it fairly unscathed, who knows…
151  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: First season back table on: January 23, 2024, 21:30:09 pm
Amazing effort from our Jon.

Thank you Marvo, enjoy this content. What points did the top three finish their seasons on?
152  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2024 Transfer Window on: January 23, 2024, 21:26:39 pm
If any time there was to back a manger surely it is now

💯 back him and there is a genuine chance of the play offs.
153  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: 5 game blocks on: January 23, 2024, 21:25:18 pm
With the revision to the block after the Oxford postponement, there will of course be further revisions to come.

WHAT A WIN TONIGHT. Block 6 started very nicely indeed.

Wigan 1-1
Charlton A 3-2
Shrewsbury H
Portsmouth A
Bolton H

4 points from the first 6 available and now three chances to improve the reverse results. You’ve got to feel good about us doing that too.

Up the Cobblers.
154  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Charlton Athletic away Tuesday on: January 23, 2024, 21:21:43 pm
Absolutely sensational. Thrilled for all who were there for those limbs.

Congrats Jon. Genuinely fantastic news.
157  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Oxford United A 20.01.23 on: January 19, 2024, 16:18:32 pm
Ive helped in the past to shovel snow off of the pitch, in return for a free bacon sarnie, but it never quite looked like this. And they just postponed it by 24 hours.

Now that’s great content Tabasco.

Go Bills on Sunday btw 🦬

What is legendary about the Blue Boar in Abingdon Dan?
In fact is the place still there or open?
Been to Abingdon countless times...I know my stuff whether hotels or pubs...as well as the best way to get to Oxford if you read my post on Oxford thread!  Wink

Edit* Ah yeah, can see it's open...has SKY Sports on and does burgers... legendary!  Grin

Fine memories of that lively establishment after Poggy’s wedding. Great place.
159  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Portsmouth (a) on: January 18, 2024, 13:41:02 pm
Rob with respect mate, you also said that the Blue Boar in Abingdon was a s***hole and that place is legendary.

So forgive us if we believe Drillings views over yours 😉
160  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: 5 game blocks on: January 13, 2024, 21:17:17 pm
Get in there. 7 already not by either of us 🙌🏽

We all love a good compliment. And huge ones are even better.

I consider it equally flattering that someone not at all interested in it keeps coming in ☺️ cheers Fenners.
