1301  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Sampson Sacked on: March 02, 2011, 17:31:24 pm
Well, what can I say. Next time I manage to head up to a game from Uni I will venture into Sixfields and Sammo will not be there. Every game I have been too since I started in 1997, Sammo has been part of the furniture. When I was growing up he was always great, would take the time to chat to you and always said it how it was. I remember meeting him in the club shop in December and he took the time out to have a chat with us. Very rare in todays game. So all it leaves is to say this:

Thanks for Wembley.
Thanks for Torquay.
Thanks for nutmegging me when I played against you at Sixfields!
And most importantly, thanks for Liverpool.

You are and always will be a club legend, and good luck to your and your family in the future.

Tozer.

New tactic suggestion. Play sh*te for 90 minutes then adopt a 2-5-3 formation for injury time.
Due to our inconsistency we'll probably only manage the first part.
1305  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Nightmare on Edgar Street? on: February 22, 2011, 20:02:25 pm
Didn't Wedderburn use to play for Hereford? Getting a bit spicy in the middle.
On loan yep.

Anyway, I'm thinking that it would be quite a nice treat if we didn't go on and surrender a lead. Here's hoping!
1306  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gilligan's a goner on: February 16, 2011, 21:34:39 pm
Despite this numpty visiting our board, I'll always have a soft spot for Torquay for the way they appluaded us when we won automatic promotion there in 2000, especially as they needed the three points for themselves to get into the play-offs. Their fans were great that day, and what a great day it was!
1307  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Morecambe on: February 15, 2011, 20:48:02 pm
Poor poor result in the end. Only 7 clean sheets this season, 3 of which we didn't win.
1308  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Morecambe on: February 15, 2011, 20:33:11 pm
3 subs at once is looking pretty stupid now we have hardly anyone up front.
1309  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Morecambe on: February 15, 2011, 20:14:50 pm
Right lads, let's try our hardest to keep this lead Grin
1310  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gilligan's a goner on: February 13, 2011, 21:09:07 pm
Gilligan has served us well over the years. But so far this year he hasn't been at his best. Whether this is because he is still injured and in need of an operation I don't know. Maybe he needs a change of scenery to start enjoying his football again. Either way, good luck to him.
1311  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Your help needed on: February 13, 2011, 17:21:20 pm
I think they should extend the bar out the front like a conservatory, you could double the size of it relatively cheaply even as a temporary measure.
This ^^

PLUS

Allow everyone in, including away fans. The more people you restrict the more money you are turning away.

Drop the price of non-alcoholic drinks. A coke should not cost more than a pint of beer.

Improve the quality of the drinks. Often they are completely flat.

Sort out the stock and have back-up. The amount of times they have run out of alcohol is absolutely criminal, it's a bar!

Offer simple meals at reasonable prices that footy fans will want i.e Burger and Chips, Fish and Chips, Curry.

OK, only followed us since 97, but I shall try and involve some that I know were legends for us in the past, and a few of my own favourites.

Mark Bunn - The most naturally gifted keeper in my time supporting the club.

Phil Neal - Errr....50 England caps?
Ray Warburton - Formed a legendary partnership with Sammo.
Ian Sampson - Formed a legendary partnership with Razor. Current manager, great guy with a lot of time for the fans.
John Frain - Scored the winning goal in THAT game, which happened to be my first.

Tommy Fowler - You can't not have the top appearance maker in the team. Wish I had been able to see him live.
Richard Hill - Our record sale for ages. Scored loads of goals in one of our best teams.
Sean Parrish - Another personal favourite. Energetic, passionate, and he could strike the ball as well!
Joe Kiernan - Represented us in the First Division, made loads of appearances and worked for the club as well.

Frank Large - His goalscoring record tells it all.
Jamie Forrester - Was the first real goalscorer for the club that I can remember.

Manager: Dave Bowen - Got us to the First Division.

My Dad said that it wasn't a 6-2 game too Fez so you're not alone.

Dad said for all Crewe's efforts it should have been a draw. Clinical finishing was the difference according to him.

What a plonker eh?  Grin
Make sure Ted doesn't hear about your dad's views, he'll be so angry he'll need a new keyboard after he's finished Wink
1314  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewe match thread on: February 01, 2011, 21:26:44 pm
Tell your Dad he's a plonker.Dunn was at fault for the first, but then changed the game with a superb penalty save. Also, he wasn't at fault for Crewe's second. As for "we can only beat what is put in front of us" , what a pathetic statement to make, when we were playing the team in fourth position and bang in form. Roll Eyes
Maybe this is to get a bite, but I'll answer your post anyway.

One slight differing opinion on the fault of one goal suddenly makes the man a plonker? Yer alright. I also put down that he said Dunn made some good saves, so read the post in its entirety and you may find you were wrong to pick apart one part of it and ignore the other.

As for the "we can only beat what is put in front of us" comment, it was mainly due to the fact that Crewe sounded dogs*** in defence. It wasn't meant to put down our achievement in any way.

I'm delighted that we've won 6-2 against a team that were in good form, not least that we have been so clinical in front of goal. But... it didn't sound as if Crewe had the greatest of evenings.

Regards, James.
1315  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewe match thread on: February 01, 2011, 20:49:50 pm
Just spoke with my dad who was at the match. Basic points are:

It was never a 6-2 match, but we were very clinical.
It was never a penalty for them, complete dive.
Dunny let 2 in he shouldn't have, but also saved a couple that looked destined to go in.
Crewe are crap in defence.

I suppose we can only beat what is put in front of us, and it is nice to see us being so clinical.

Well done boys. Can't ask for much more than 6 goals! More of the same on Saturday. We owe Barnet...
1316  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewe match thread on: February 01, 2011, 20:38:13 pm
Good lord. I need a lie down. This was a massive game. We have produced a massive performance. Like literally so massive I very nearly subscribed to Cobblers Player (and I hate cobblers player).

1318  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewe match thread on: February 01, 2011, 20:32:43 pm
I too can never remember us scoring 6. So I'm going to enjoy it while I can Cheesy
