61  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewed. on: November 04, 2018, 12:34:31 pm
A pretty comfortable win, a bit like Oldham last week I was never worried .

I think two things that have been more noticeable under Curle is the amount of individual errors from players has significantly reduced. We're not complicating things, if the ball needs to be cleared up the pitch we get on with it rather than risking a pass that's not on or being caught in possession, as their midfielder was for Powell's goal. It's not kick and rush, but we pick and choose the moments when to play the prettier football and more often than not are getting them right.

We are also much more streetwise. I don't particularly like to see teams use the dark arts, but at times over the last 18 months I feel like we've helped the opposition out far more than we needed to. Just little things like KvV sprinting to the other side of the pitch when he was about to be substituted last week, or Cornell bellowing at Turnbull not to fetch the ball when it had gone out behind the North Stand yesterday. They are not match changing, they are not even particularly admirable. But it's about finding any little advantage we can get at the moment and letting the opposition know that we're no longer a pushover, and it gives me every confidence that we have a switched on manager at the helm.

Anyone know if todayís shirts are being auctioned again?
Club said on Twitter they were yes.
63  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Hold Em Steady (For the Mods, this is about Northampton v Oldham) on: November 01, 2018, 12:21:07 pm
Even if you want to give him a pass for not taking the ample opportunities he had to dive on the ball and smother it while it was sitting between a defenders legs and not moving, about a yard and a half away from him. Surely, allowing a weak toe poke to then go through both his hands, then his legs warrants some degree of blame for the goal?
We all see things differently. I'm not sure I've seen any keeper at our level witness chaos in front of them to that degree and fling themselves over three defenders, all of whom had ample opportunity to clear it. Not to mention I think his view of the ball would have been obstructed.

I think everyone knows I'm not his biggest fan, but I didn't even for a second consider him at fault for that goal.

64  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Are we strong enough to mount a play off challenge from such a lowly position? on: October 31, 2018, 14:14:32 pm
Rob Page - 5 points
Justin Ed - 9 points
Jimmy - 7 points
Deano - 7 points

Kieth - 8 points

From their first five games.

Ask this question in another 5 games!!
Interesting to see JED had an even better start than Curle. Things must have soon started to go downhill under him!

I'm more confident than before though that this is more than a new manager bounce. Curle has squeezed some mental strength out of them, we look far more streetwise and he seems to have simplified things, as well as using the squad intelligently.

An impressive start, but like you say it's far too early to talk about play-offs. Let's see where we are at the end of 2018.
65  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: FA Youth Cup 1st Round v King's Lynn Town 30/10/18 @ PTS Academy Stadium on: October 31, 2018, 14:03:55 pm
Enjoyed that.....could have been double figures to be honest!

We've really got some fine young talent on our books.

Jay Williams looked so composed on the ball and is a future 1st team captain in the making.
Cam McWilliams is gonna be some player. Just coming back from injury but looks so strong and got real pace and that edge like his brother...
Morgan Roberts is a right pest and reminded me of Darren Harmon (just needs to bulk up a bit but a stint out on loan playing mens football will help his development no end)
Scott Pollock looked nice and tidy on the ball and can pick a pass
Jack Newell looks a fine leggy midfield prospect who was voted MOM
Jack Daldy had great movement and looks like a proper striker who will take his chances

All the others looked more than competent and we're well above the standard of the opposition.

Swindon at home in round 2 so hopefully that'll be at the PTS too.
I'd like to add that Harding looked a real handful when he came on. Loads of pace and caused them no end of problems.
66  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: "Things shouted out by the knob head who sits behind/next/near me". on: October 30, 2018, 01:09:44 am
I was in stitches at an old guy sat along from me in the North. He may have been the one already mentioned above.

I think he must have thought we had 11 men still, because he didn't seem to understand the concept that free flowing football would not be served up on the cards in the second half.

In fact the stuff he was shouting was so stupid it provided some light relief to what should have been a tense finale Grin
67  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Kevin van Veen on: October 30, 2018, 01:02:17 am
I think some on here will have a mountain to climb to get to the 'love in' stage.
The vast majority of fans will get behind him if he produces the goods, there is no conspiracy theory. Supporters are willing to change their mind on players. We've seen it with the likes of JJOT, Kelvin Langmead and Rod McDonald, who were really not liked at first but all ended up with cult status. We've seen it with KvV to an extent already.
68  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Hold Em Steady (For the Mods, this is about Northampton v Oldham) on: October 30, 2018, 00:55:41 am
Cornell was not at fault for that goal. Three defenders had the chance to clear it and didn't.

But between them it was virtually the only thing they did wrong. Great defensive performance from everyone on Saturday. A lack of mental strength was my big bugbear with these players, but they've shown they have it under Curle at the moment. The big test for them now is to show it across a sustained period of time, rather than making me fear it's another new manager bounce.
69  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Macclesfield Away on: October 24, 2018, 16:41:05 pm
Anyway, that's the last I'm posting on that subject.

The finishes from Crooks were superb. Good to see Powell elbow off the defender's challenge for his goal too, we know he has strength in the locker now and I'm hoping we see more of it. He has all the attributes to be a real nuisance at this level, and if he can just be a little more consistent he will be be a big asset.
70  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Macclesfield Away on: October 24, 2018, 16:36:07 pm
Thatís a load of bollocks - point scoring that old chest nut. Your praise has an underlying tone of faint praise for Cornell. Lord help him if he makes a mistake. My comment is not point scoring at all just informing you that Cornell made a great save. You simply canít let go of your prejudices against Cornell.
That seems to have touched a nerve Grin

If it wasn't point scoring why did you quote my tweet and mention something completely unrelated then?

I don't have prejudices against Cornell. I think we can do a lot better than him, but am hoping he proves me wrong and I'm open to changing my mind on that if his performances dictate that. It's as simple as that and I'm rather tired of making that point.

On the contrary, you don't seem to be able to let go of the fact that I've expressed an opinion - to the extent where I can post a positive comment after a 5-0 win and you still feel the need to bring it up.

I should add that you also seem remarkably smug for someone who posted that Ward was well worth a go yourself Wink
71  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Macclesfield Away on: October 24, 2018, 01:04:49 am
Cornell made one great save early 1st half  tipping a pile drive volley over bar from Rose.
Credit where it's due, he's starting to keep some clean sheets. I'm always open to changing my mind if the evidence points a certain way.

It's a shame you want to point score after a 5-0 win though. For the self-appointed moral compass of the messageboard you should be ashamed Grin
72  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Macclesfield Away on: October 23, 2018, 23:45:39 pm
5-0 away win. Can't complain at that! Grin

Just goes to show how key Crooks is going to be for this season.
73  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Swindon Town on: October 07, 2018, 12:00:21 pm
Draw away at a side placed 11th and went for the win. Defensively good by all accounts and without Taylor. Is Cornell starting to win his doubters around, crucial saves again? Very good start by Curlio and weíll done all round.
Don't think it's any secret I've had my grave doubts about Cornell, but he's definitely saving more shots than he did before. There looked to be one excellent save yesterday too on the highlights.

If he can cut out some of those errors like in the Mansfield game, which undid a lot of his good work, and we start to see him keeping more clean sheets then I will be delighted because ultimately if he's doing well then it's likely that team will be doing well Smiley

Pierre for me too.
75  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Austin out! on: September 30, 2018, 22:26:57 pm
All the other sacking statements had quotes from Kelvin in them. This one didn't. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it?
76  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NTFC Manager Vacancy on: September 30, 2018, 21:42:09 pm
I agree entirely with the principle but would that be enough to attract the higher caliber of candidates?
A valid point, but on the flip side we can point out that if they're successful it's far easier for them to move to a better club as Wilder did.
77  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NTFC Manager Vacancy on: September 30, 2018, 21:35:25 pm
Whoever it is...

12. month. rolling. contract.
78  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Mansfield's Park. on: September 30, 2018, 13:23:13 pm
Anyone else think we were only half the side without Crooks playing yesterday?
Without him we had zero creativity. Shows how important he is.
79  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Fans take over on: September 30, 2018, 13:02:29 pm
Thanks for your reply Fez, please note Im not being critical and infact a fan of the football trust and what it can do for our club,  as for action, and I maybe over thinking this doomsday scenario but I would like the trust to investigate it.
My latest worries for our club is the ownership of the land
directly behind the east stand that has for 20 years been ear marked as the location for possible hotel, corporate facilities, confrencing, large supporters bar and function room etc etc, My current fears is that this will no longer be available for the clubs use and will be lost forever in private ownership.
Can we get confirmation from someone on the council that this land was surrendered to the football club for the football club and not something to be annexed and sold privately, thus killing all hope of Sixfields ever being able to play outside league 2?
On this issue, waiting and seeing can not happen as if theres a chance the club loses this land , the council could be our only hope.

I'm no longer on the board mate, so best to email this to or message them on their Facebook page.

No-one is attributing sole blame to Cornell. The difference is that a lot of posters on here are elevating his performance levels above what they realistically are - which no-one else is doing with the likes of Taylor, O'Toole, Buchanan etc.

If people weren't describing routine saves as 'brilliant' or 'unbelievable' then a lot less of the focus on here would be about pointing out that some of us don't see it that way.

Everbrite, one of Cornell's staunchest supporters, even said he got a good reception before the Mansfield game. So it's hardly a witch hunt is it?
