I hate to mention it but ÖÖ
Cobbs in top 3 as it stands!!
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 14, 2021, 13:09:13 pm
JB thought we did well on Saturday and deserved more against the top of the league side. So, with this in mind, I expect the same starting 11 and a 0-0 draw.

No competition Ö. Robbo!

I simply do not understand the reasons why Sowerby and Pollock are not getting selected.

I didn't go yesterday, listened to Tim. Even his usual excitable style commentary was missing, so it was bloody clear that the game was a bore fest.

I try to avoid picking on certain players, but if someone could tell me what Lewis is bringing to the party Id be very interested? Other than missing a series of sitters last week, I don't recall ever seeing a single significant contribution from him during a phase of play. Maybe I'm being harsh, maybe I haven't got the footballing knowledge to see things that the 'experts' do? Please someone, tell me why he is being picked?!!

Because heís a scouser. Itís an unwritten rule that youíve got to have at least one scouser in your team. Watson goes, Lewis in. Simples!

Sorry to continue this moany theme but Ö
Iíve never known a big (ish) away crowd to be so quiet. Donít get me wrong Iím not a singer but there really was nothing to get excited about. 100% agree with the comment that the pendulum has swung firmly away from JB and to Cc. That said, I would have been delighted with a 1-0 win to us yesterday!
Keeping focus though, we are only 6 games in and if we had picked up 3 pts from our game in hand we would be 4th.
I did think shipping out Harry was a mistake. He would have been good with a Brady team but letís be realistic, he would have been fcuking ineffectual with the service received from yesterdayís midfield!
6  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 12, 2021, 11:32:57 am
Agree with Manny and Corno - our problem seems to be midfield. Donít know if itís formation, tactics or player quality but it clearly didnít work yesterday. Agree though that McWilliams wasnít the worst midfielder on show. In fact he may have been the best of a very bad bunch!
Iím a great fan of JB but his post match comments yesterday were deluded and way off. FGR weíre better (much better) in every position on the park apart from the keeper. Weíre not that bad an outfit snd I still think we can have a good season but we need to wake up and smell the coffee. We were comprehensively beaten by a better side. Hopefully theyíll top the league in May and weíll be close behind them!?
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 11, 2021, 22:04:07 pm
Well, that was a load of old shįte wasn't it. I think probably the only positive we can take from today's game was Robert's, who was excellent and kept us in it and but for him it could have easily been 3 or 4. Pretty even first half, Rose won plenty of headers, Etete held the ball up, defence pretty solid, ref shocking, gave us nothing. Second half we started sitting deeper and deeper and just invited them to attack us. When we did bring the ball out of defence, Koiki especially, he'd bring it so far, then punt it hopefully  upfield and just about every time it went to a defender who cleared it. We had a couple of chances, notably when the ball came across the face of the goal with the keeper out of position bounced down towards the goal line, 2 defenders on the line and none of our players anywhere near it, I think it was about the 80th odd minute before we had our first and I think only shot on target.
We could have played 'til the cows came home and not scored today and looks like we're going to struggle in that department.
5 goals in 6 games is pŪss poor if we have aspirations of play offs. I was very positive before the game, I'm not now. Oh and Forest Green were nothing special, although better than us.

100% with you apart from the last comment. I thought FGR were good. They bossed us from the start. They didnít seem to me to be put under any sort of pressure by us and looked both quick and composed on the ball. Their numbers 7 and 21 controlled central midfield, I really liked their right wing back (we couldnít cope with him cutting inside on us) and Matt is what we need - a big CF who knows where the goal is.
FGR will be top 3. Not sure where will be though. Between 6th and 12th is my best guess at the minute!!
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 11, 2021, 16:54:03 pm
We canít seem to get a decent ball in the box. I feel sorry for Kion and now Kambamba. Playing CF for Cobbs today really is like pissing into the wind!
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 11, 2021, 16:47:13 pm
Really canít see a goal in us and, to be frank Ö the best team (by some distance) is winning!
Midfield has been shocking today. Too slow to get up too slow to track back.
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 11, 2021, 16:41:12 pm
It was coming. Weíve been poo. Their right wing back is taking us apart and Iím afraid to say we donít look much up for it!
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 09, 2021, 12:15:21 pm
Going to this one. My first away game for 2 years.
Any advice on parking and a pub for a pre match drink?
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Home against The Iron Saturday 04.09.21 on: September 05, 2021, 08:38:58 am
Well done lads. Scunny weíre appalling and we had an extra man for 70 mins but, as they say, you can only beat what is put in front of you.
The difference today were our 2 flank backs staying out wide and getting forward so readily. With Scunny only playing 1 up front and very little going on creatively in midfield, our very adequate defensive spine could easily handle things in our half.
So pleased to say the 2 individuals who I have previously thought a liability shone today. I thought, like others, Lewis and Rose had good games - long may it continue (against better teams with 12 players!).
Koiki definitely MOM for me. The only one that was slightly off the pace for me was Flores. But hey, JB should definitely consider starting that same 11 at FGR next week.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: September 02, 2021, 13:32:01 pm
I see that cobblers target Kabongo Tshimanga is top scorer in the nationwide league.
Ambitious Chesterfield  Tongue

This lad was so obviously worth a punt. I can only think the money was too much?

Anywho, just read the Chron article about JB having the opportunity to bring in more cover but he believes he has enough. This is definitely a g-amble given we only have 2 forwards (Iím not counting Rose and Benny!). That said, I believe in JB and his back room team, so weíll go with what weíve got - it certainly should be enough to have a bit of a go this season.
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NN5 7EYN number plate on: August 31, 2021, 20:47:21 pm
Iíve got CO55LRS but have never had the chance to put it in a car - yet.
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Creepy Crawley away Saturday 28/08/21 on: August 30, 2021, 00:30:50 am
Melly, so many things are much better this season than last - in fact, I canít think of anything that is worse.
You are of course correct, itís much too early to panic but the signs are clearly there for us to be concerned about strikers.
In answer to your question - there have been several targets that might have been the answer but theyíve all slipped through our fingers (including Big Harry!), so now weíve got to pray for a loanee - a Morton not an Edmundson!!
Iíve only seen the 2 home league games this season but there is no doubt in my mind that we have the midfielders that are creating more for the forwards than last season. I think Kion has been a little unfortunate so far - he will come good. However, even though itís early days I think we need to consider Rose and BAS as permanent bench warmers until we can get more personnel.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Creepy Crawley away Saturday 28/08/21 on: August 29, 2021, 00:08:29 am
Iím not your man for incisive comments or tactical pearls of wisdom - although I did get 11 European Championship wins managing Cobbs over a 30 year period in an early Football Manager game!
Here are my positives:
1) Back 4 look solid.
2) Goalie is 1000% better than last year and weíre in a lower league so ..
3) Definitely a bit more pace and creativity in midfield. I think Flores will be ok.
4) McWilliams is still quality - letís not write him off after that appalling performance against Dale.
And the frustrations:
1) Rose and BAS are not the answer. I know itís only 4 games in but most of us on here said that Harry Smith should have been given the chance playing with a more creative midfield behind and beside him!
2) Kion and Kabamba have a bit more about them but they arenít going to score the goals we need to be successful.
3) How did that lad from Boreham Wood end up at Chesterf***infield? Heís just the sort of lad I would have bought on Football Manager and gone on to bag 30 goals a season??!
In short, get a forward in who can play off Kion and knows where the goal is.
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Creepy Crawley away Saturday 28/08/21 on: August 28, 2021, 16:25:27 pm
Still praying for a Rose winner. So far 12 shots but only two on target.
ďScore in a minute, weíre gunna score in a minuteĒ!
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Creepy Crawley away Saturday 28/08/21 on: August 28, 2021, 14:42:56 pm
So a bit of gamesmanship by JB quoted in the Chron after the Dale game saying that in the future, he plans to mix it up and not just play 442?
UTC.  I see a fighting 2-1 away win today.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Creepy Crawley away Saturday 28/08/21 on: August 28, 2021, 14:34:10 pm
Rose starting!
This is the day he makes me reassess my fixed view of him and scores one snd makes another.
Go Rosey!
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rochdale home 21.08.21 on: August 23, 2021, 09:01:17 am
Some of our fans are turning into 'Enfant terribe' supporters. Extreme personal opinions on players such as BAS, Rose, McGowan and now Nelson now appear to be blamed for the defeat last Saturday. Even McWilliams is now being called into question! The fact is on Saturday we were beaten by the better side particularly in the second half; yet the result was in doubt for 65% of the match. Opinions are sacrosanct on here but not to the point of vindictive personal criticism of players. Clearly something went wrong; maybe selection and tactics were to blame? Genuine criticism is fine such as that echoed by Deepcut on Nelson, this is how it should be; not building up an ever increasing list of players they find culpable to suit their personal agenda! Personally I did not find Nelson, Rose and BAS to be too bad on Saturday but we were just out played at times. The side that beat Coventry away and that which lost to Rochdale where very similar teams so please tell me what went wrong?

Good post Evers - a fair point. Iím afraid I see some of myself in that post. I just canít see what Rose has to offer and I donít think I ever will but Ö. However, I donít blame him for the defeat.
I think many contributors have answered your question at the end.
Their manager out thought ours. They bossed midfield with numbers and creativity and their 3 CBs stopped our forwards playing. JB reacted tactically in the last couple of games, he didnít seem able to (or want to) this time round.
Pretty simple really but heh, Iím not a professional football manager so Iíll trust in JB and CC to sort it out for next week.
