Well one things for certain …. Fleetwood don’t operate a data driven recruitment system. If they do they’ve got their Excel spread sheet upside down!!

Same, not the slightest interest in any of it despite once being a red blooded English supporter, I'll stick to travelling with the cricket in future.

I'm done with being patronised by current and ex footballers who are employed to kick around a ball around yet now seem to have developed some superior intellect. Medical studies suggest heading a ball has the opposite effect.

Sick of the new woke and oh so virtuous brigade of commentators. Apparently after 35 years of being a supporter, according to "Chock ice" Rio Ferdinand and "swap the wife for a younger model" Gary Lineker "I'm part of the problem."

Watching one game on Sunday, Hartlepool v Stockport.

Not to excited about the football either. Mind you all this fuss about taking the knee is quite a tonic.
Grown ups getting so cross about 11 blokes showing support for each other and the fair treatment of everyone was tragic but now it’s more comic.

It’s a situation that just keeps giving as well - first time for a long time, I’ve agreed with a Boris announcement - stop booing and support your team. I would amend slightly and say stop booing and spend some time in honest self reflection to understand the real cause of your anger - In most cases, it won’t be what you say it is!

Just to summarise the last 24 hours and our resulting chit chatting:
1) Well done JB - you set a deadline and stuck to it
2) Welcome to our 2 new midfielders - give your all to NTFC, listen to JB and don’t read this forum!
3) We were never going to show our workings on the data based approach but let’s be clear, it was only ever going to be used to bring unknowns into consideration- our 3 recent signings were all known commodities - right or wrong, that’s the way it’ll work
4) Message to Cambridge fans - you’ve got a good one but he wasn’t always so , be careful!
5) Message to fans of wherever Watson ends up … no great loss. A very average midfielder who scored a few goals in a purple patch where our forwards went 100% AWOL.
6) Still think Mitch looks like Josh low so I’m very excited about that.
4  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: June 08, 2021, 20:41:07 pm
Mitch Pinnock looks to have some talent...give him a chance. He's the sort of player who could do it for us!

I liked the look of his show reel - mind you if you wait long enough you’ll fill a 5 minute video of nice football for anyone (excluding all our forwards last year though!!?).

A 6 foot plus tricky winger - reminds me of the legendary Josh Low. If he’s half as good as the Welsh wizard he’ll get some hearts beating faster next season at Sixfields!!

Am I being a bit nasty if I hope he falls flat on his face?

Me too Sing.
We showed him a lot of respect and loyalty by giving him 2 chances to rebuild his career.
As soon as he has the upper hand he flips the finger to the club and fans.

I guess it’s the way of the world though. It makes us all feel a bit better if it’s all about money but in this case it doesn’t seem to be …. So, as far as I’m concerned, he can rot!

Don’t need anyone that don’t need us -  so let’s move on
6  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: June 08, 2021, 15:00:00 pm
Jon Brady. "One of the early policy decisions from all on the recruitment committee was to ensure that the players we signed really wanted to be at Northampton Town.“

Well done JB! My confidence levels have just doubled!
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: June 07, 2021, 15:47:54 pm
Jones I could understand paying a bit over the odds for. But doing that for Watson who one purple spell aside has been beyond average for us, would be lunacy. Revoke offer asap in my opinion and bring in players who want to play for the club.

Yep, deadline was the end of last week.
JB’s first big test …
Groundhog Day or Brave New World?

Tell them to sod off JB. If the offer isn’t good enough for them, move on.
Yeh, I know the cliched bollocks about a footballer players career being short but here’s some more **** sayings for JB/LJ/RW to ponder on - and then do the right thing.
“a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush”
“Loyalty is a 2 way street”
“The weak wait while the winner acts”
“Fortune favours the bold”
“Action may not always bring happiness but there is no happiness without action”
And my favourite from Norma Jean herself …
“A woman doesn’t need anyone that doesn’t need her!”

You know what you’ve got to do JB - pull the trigger!
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh R.I.P. on: June 06, 2021, 09:30:07 am
We started watching Bridgerton after it was recommended to us by numerous friends. We made it just over halfway through the first episode before giving up, a) because it was utter shìte and b) because we found it really difficult with all the PoC playing members of the aristocracy.

Apparently it used "colour blind casting" and just cast the actor whose performance best fit the role, irrespective of colour. In a contemporary fictional production that's great and exactly as it should be.

In a period piece I find it both disingenuous and hugely dismissive of the struggles PoC have gone through in the intervening years. If people grow up now watching shows set centuries ago where non-white characters are shown in senior positions, afforded the same respect as the white characters then there's a risk they will take that as a representation of how things really were.

People talk about cancel culture in relation to the likes of Colston and Rhodes but I think this is very much the same thing and actually more harmful; if we portray a world where it's all been fine and dandy for PoC for centuries, then aren't we erasing from history the efforts of all those people who fought tooth and nail against racism and discrimination?

Another great post.
I’m changing my mind ... maybe we should keep HRH going forever on Cobblers Corner?
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh R.I.P. on: June 06, 2021, 09:26:16 am
Unlike yourself evershed, we look to the future not the past. This Philip fella is gone as is Herr Corbyn. The shame lies at the door of the Fashista, peddling their suitcase of shame. The little children have suffered enough, spare them the deceit you peddle. Phil Chard cannot save your blushes, you are defined by your failure to embrace a new vision of shining excellence. You look down on Pollock and Brady as reflections of your corruption, you need to wise up and hug the fella that sits to your left. Kiss him, love him and only then will you see God.

Great post SAG - Cantonaesq in its message and nature.
I’m afraid some folks on here spend their day’s looking back and pining for the old days:
The Empire
The ruling classes, posh folks knowing best
People knowing their place
England for the English
Get on your bike and sort it out (unless you want to come here)
Hatred of tolerance and empathy

Vive le revolution!!
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Players Under/Out of Contract This Summer on: June 05, 2021, 11:00:53 am
The way I’d be approaching the situation would have been to assume they were not going to resign and to have been actively seeking replacements from the end of the season. I don’t see any point in reducing our options by withdrawing the contract offers until those replacements have agreed to sign.

2reasons:
You can’t give someone a contract while you have one (that you now can’t afford) in someone’s else’s hands. Sure you can talk to folks which I sincerely hope JB has been doing for weeks now.
Loyalty works 2 ways. Sure the player needs to look after himself but if those time wasting tactics cause huge disruption at the club, then no matter how good he is ... walk away.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Players Under/Out of Contract This Summer on: June 04, 2021, 16:36:23 pm
Ok, so it’s the end of next week ... the deadline JB quoted in the Chron article for sorting out Mssrs Jones and Watson.
JB must be a busy bloke so I’ve drafted the letter for him. All need to do is copy and paste and print on NTFC paper (PC: ctrl C and cntrl P; Apple: command C and command P)

...........

Dear Ryan / Lloyd

It’s been over a month now since you received our contract offer. I appreciate you need to consider your future carefully but I’m sure you will understand that I need to have the club and it’s supporters as my number 1 priority.

For this reason I am today formally withdrawing the contract offer. I will now start to try and fill the very large gaps you both leave by going into the transfer market.

I wish you and your family all the best and hope to see you at Sixfields at some stage in the future where you’ll hopefully let me buy you a drink.

Thanks again for all you have contributed to the success of NTFC.

Up the Cobblers
John Brady

Windy Miller despite being pissed on the job was a true visionary of his time.

He refused the chance to "move with the times" as he was often accused by Brian Cant. However tempting he didn't want to take the fat Euro grant on offer to expand his mill and take on cheap Polish workers on zero hours contracts. He didn't believe this to be the future, just an unsustainable bubble of boom and bust, neither did he see the long term benefits for anyone of hiring cheap temporary foreign workers with no heart or desire.

Instead he concentrated on quality and especially sustainability, he could see how important this would become with mounting pressure on the environment from all the rapidly expanding businesses. Now and with the benefit of Brexit he sells his local homemade organic flour to artisan bakers throughout Islington, he also makes a killing from his equally organic "Windy" cider now selling for £15 a bottle in trendy bars around London and Manchester.

The big factory down the road who stole a lot of Windys market back then is now closing as they cant find enough cheap labour for their mass produced bleached flour shite, the local British people out of work don't want to work in a mill they want to be instagram influencers.

Cheers Windy, keep testing that Cider for quality and have one from me. A true visionary indeed.

Fabulous story. Made me chuckle. You did miss out the all important ending though ...
Windy contributed £30k to Boris to help him fund his 3rd divorce and 4th wedding. The Conservative Party made Windy a peer and now he has an exclusive deal for flour and cider based products at Wetherspoons.
Everybody lived happily ever after - well at least Sir Windy, Boris and Wetherspoons did!

The article in the Chron says Jones and Watson will be decided by the end of next week.
This to me is JBs first test! If they are still sniffing around for a better deal elsewhere by then, then withdraw the deal and look elsewhere.
If jones and Watson keep us fanning around until the end of June it will be last year all over again.
I trust you to do the right thing JB. No sign by Friday 4th, no sign at all!

3) Ex Cobbler, Mark Hughes, signed up by Joey B. - 34 year old but might do a job fir them?
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: May 26, 2021, 17:26:50 pm
This afternoon’s headlines:
1) Lee Nichols signs for Huddersfield - not that he was ever going to give us a second look!?
2) KC signs a 2 year contract at Oldham- proving the very relevant adage that Dominic Cummings has been chatting about all day ... “the s***ter you are the more you progress!” Aka “The Peter Principle!”
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Something to ponder while we wait ... on: May 23, 2021, 09:08:27 am
So the weathers ****, nil points in ESC again and June, as always, will be a quiet month for our much anticipated transfer news so ....

A wee fact and question to keep us going (you’re welcome!):

The irony of our season of striking failure is that in season 20/21 there were ex Cobblers strikers in all 4 professional English leagues top 10 goal scorers list. In fact 2 in Div 1!
When was the last time that happened - if ever?
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: May 22, 2021, 17:49:07 pm
Derngate for a Panto?

I heard BAS has got the lead role for this Christmas’ extravaganza at the NEC - Bambi on Ice.
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Data Based Approach on: May 19, 2021, 11:18:22 am
Thanks for all the links guys and the interesting chat. I certainly got more than I bargained for when I kicked this one off!

My point though was at a much lower level (much like the football I’m going to watch next season!) ...
Is there any analytical approach on Gods green earth that would have pushed us towards signing on Edmundson and then playing him week in week out?
If there is then “buyer  beware”. If there isn’t, then yes please, can we have one!

This is fun though, combining 2 of my favourite things .. Cobblers and maths. If we could just link to colouring and quantum physics as well I’d be sorted!
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Data Based Approach on: May 18, 2021, 08:01:10 am
It's not even people's opinions, it's James Henaghans opinion from his post match subjective assessments.  Wink

Fair point, but give the lad credit, he can’t be that far out can he - week in week out? Generally speaking I pretty much agreed with most of his scorings. My point, not very well made, is unless you consider Mr H is on a different planet every week ... what was the data that put Edmundson in the team week after week ?
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Data Based Approach on: May 18, 2021, 07:57:30 am
Which one are you talking about?

The one at 25th with a score of 6 - Edmundson.
