Yes Nicky Smith. Same goal, but opposite side from Jacobs. I thought he was a great loan signing. He was a part timer, who was also a postman. Probably one of, if not the last non-full-timer to play for us?

Get a bit fed up of this one cropping up every few years..but I'll tell you exactly the definitive answer to this. Here goes...Originally, it was an NAT (no, not explaining to young uns - do some research!)
Well I've done my research and I'm appalled to here of the origins of this song. I can't believe such a rousing Cobblers song was started off by a few IT geeks. Like we footy fans give a cr*p about blo*dy Network Address Translation.

Sooooo looking forward, 4 or 5 new players confirmed to come in according to Aidy and a much-changed line up for Monday indicates most of them will be in tomorrow. So where's the rumours? We don't normally sign players we don't know we're going to sign. Is it a new back 4 and Asante?!
I hear Turnbull has gone out? Anyone else heard this?

I think I agree with the majority here. Sure, a new striker is always nice and generates excitement. However, it is always a ga mble, and can be very costly. Harrad anyone? I am certain that our lack of possession-winning skills, strength and ability to retain possession in midfield are key, along with a decent 2 or 3 centre-backs. The costs of signing a strong, tough-tackling central box-to-box (dare I say Osman-esque?) midfielder to sort out the engine room, and a half decent centre back combined, will be less than the cost of a 20-goal a year ga mble. Maybe Johnson can be the answer in the holding role (Crewe will not be thinking they had an easy game). Maybe Webster back in defence with Tozer could be a good young pertnership to develop, but I suspect there will be some strengthening in this area, perhaps with just a loan striker. Oh, and if you're reading Santa, a decent left back too please.

You could argue
Thornton , robinson , harrad good on the pitch **** of it
For me, this gets to the heart of the problem with some of GJ's selection/tactical decisions this season. He always says how he works with them in training and picks the ones that show the right attitude and sharpness etc. Surely if we played the players that performed on the pitch, rather than on the training ground, we'd be doing a lot better right now. It is one thing to impress in training or a friendly, and quite another to do it under pressure and against a competitive opposition. That said, I'm not sure any of the above were consistently that good on the pitch.

I'm sorry, but it doesn't take a genius to work out that playing without a left midfielder is just awful tactics that have failed miserably. Name a successful team that ever successfully played with a big hole down one flank. No out ball, two attacking one defender. Awful.

Back on topic, my assessment of the game would be very similar to Dillywangers'.
I don't understand the criticism of Bayo. It was a typical Bayo performance. The kind of 70 minutes we know and mad-love him for. For the first goal, he put his boot back on, skinned the full back and put it on a plate for Tozer. I also see one of those headed flick on's releasing Jakey Robinson for a goal in the near future.
I agree about Tozer, I think he had his best game in midfield. However, Bully is looking a class signing and would be my MOM. He does what I expected, but the quality of some of his touches and passes is well above expectation (which probably explains for me the interest in him from Chesterfield).
I like McKoy. Sure he looked like a centre half up front, but the guy is big, strong, seems to have a surprising turn of pace. He's the new Mr Versatility and should be useful. Speaking of versatility, still not sure on Holy at centre back, just due to pace. Although Doig did ok for them until getting cut AGAIN!
I seem to be in the minority in thinking Young did well when up against a very good winger for Reading. Frequently he was left with two doubling up on him thanks to the still disappointing Davies roaming around on a seemingly free role. A real potential weekness that seemed less of a problem today, being perhaps more disciplined in keeping position. I'm not alone, however, in agreeing that Young did well today. I think some people have written him off due to his stature alone, but we need pace in that position that we lost with Jason Crowe, and he covers in behind the centre backs really well when he can. He did so to close out the Wycombe striker who had left Jonno and Webster, just after entering the action. Wycombe's no 11 left winger was very dangerous, and he was hardly in the game once Young nullified his pace.
Not perfect, but a more encouraging performance. If we can boss teams like we did for a lot of today, the defensive frailties won't be exposed too often. I hope! Lastly, I was fairly impressed with the way we finished the game, comfortably on top. Contrary to those who said we tired after an hour, Tozer looked fitter than against Reading and Bully and others were full of running at the end. Fitter than a tired looking Wycombe for me.

It's just back to the old problem of people forgetting that we're a L2 club that struggled last year. Sure we'd like to sign Joe Hart, but that isn't going to happen. That leaves us with a choice between a L2 bog standard GK, an old has-been, or a young up and comer (with little experience).
Admittedly Nigel Spink looked good in the Memorial game, but from my own point of view, I'm happy with the youngster, who to be fair, does have a little amount of competitive action under his belt. He isn't really all that less expierienced than Bunny was, so let's support the lad. I don't know much about GJ's goalkeeping judgement, but I'm trusting Tim Flowers to know a top keeper when he sees one, and certainly above anyone else on here or the Bees forum.

Good motivation but a bit of a r1sk. If he does play well then other clubs may want to dangle a longer contract in front of him - the rolling month contract works both ways.
Actually (and correct me in the perfectly possible event that I'm wrong), but isn't it possible to sign a contract with the option to extend on one side only? It happens a lot in F1. I get the impression from the GJ interview that the option is in our favour only. So for example KT may have committed to NTFC for the season or longer, but NTFC only commits to it one month at a time. Effectively a get out clause every month.

I think it'll be more like this:
New Keeper
Nana Johnson Webster New Left Back Turnbull
Robinson Jacobs Davies
Akinfenwa Harrad
Subs Thornton Wedderburn Tozer Purcell McKay Holt **New Defender**
Totally agree, unless the possible new experienced central defender replaces JJ in the centre, who in turn replaces Nana.

Is it too early to start the promotion party? I think we all owe DC and GJ a huge THANK YOU for the signings so far this summer. I really hope it is boosting season ticket sales in the way that it should.

Tozer is a defender who has played all his career as a defender so I can't quite see where you're going with that one.
Ah, but what you've done there is assume that because I'm not sure about JJ in midfield, I'm convinced Tozer should be there. Not quite.

Because he's a defender, who has played in defence his whole career, and whose best position is in defence. As good a player as he is, I'm not sure his passing ability and mobility is suitable for central midfield.
I would want at least Thornton and Harrad involved, and Holt at CB didn't really work too well did it?!
