1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: Today at 09:20:16
100% Ragdoll. Whatever Chesterfield invested in him itíll be doubled by Christmas and quadrupled by the end of the season.
I can only sleep at night by convincing myself that the rumours were wrong and we were never in with a sniff as Chesterfield broke the bank to get him.
We were interested in him but his wages for an unproven player were enormous and we backed out . Ended up with Kabamba who i watched warm up on saturday and he looked woeful in shooting practice - i mean , if he hadnít got the club kit on , i would have thought he was the bloke that puts the cones out .
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Swindon (h) on: Today at 08:04:13
The Hoskins debate rolls on and i am not as anti Hoskins as some but Ö.
He was poor on Saturday and apart from the corner that led to the goal and the block at the end , did nothing of consequence . Donít mistake having plenty of the ball for having a good game - you have to do something with it .
He was put through by Koiki and should have scored and had numerous chances to cross and failed to do so.
The wider issue is that none of our so called wide players , including Pinnock and Connelly are doing too much . It may be because they are playing very narrow and having to defend a lot but at the moment all three of them are luxury players that contribute little .
I think we are better with full backs pushing on and extra strength in midfield .
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The 'Clare Balding' POTS Swindon (h) 18th September 2021 on: Yesterday at 10:32:10
it would have been Koiki if it wasnít for the lack of concentration for their goal - his only mistake.
How anyone can think Hoskins had a good game is beyond me - he did nothing of consequence and should have been subbed .
Horsfall edged it above Magowan for me
4  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Swindon (h) on: Yesterday at 10:16:59
Totally agree about Ali Koiki. He's ridiculous. Can't for the life of me understand how Bristol Rovers let him go for not being good enough. I'd be waving a long term contract under his nose asap.
fell out with Barton is the reason
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Swindon (h) on: Yesterday at 10:15:51
i think thatís the best we have played for quite some time . We were very unlucky not to have won and it is really encouraging for the future.
The referee robbed us of a goal by getting sucked in and then couldnít get a decision right after that .
Koiki was superb although it was his error for their goal because the man got inside of him .
Magowan also very good along with Rose who kept going all game .
We have to do something about Hoskins - he didnít beat his man once today and should have scored when put through .
All in all a really enjoyable game .

I've never heard so much rubbish  Grin

The pitch is cut the same as any other season from where I sit in the West stand. No different to when Keith was manager. Unless you've got photographic evidence Boot & Shoe?
i am not here to justify or defend it but i can tell you itís true .
Watch us out of possession .
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Swindon (h) on: September 18, 2021, 13:39:28 pm

McGowan, Guthrie, Horsfall, Koiki
Hoskins, Sowerby, McWilliams, Pinnock
Rose, Etete

Subs: Maxted, Harriman, Connolly, Flores, Lewis, Ashley-Seal, Kabamba
probably our best starting 11 although no Pollock on the bench . He can consider himself unlucky not to be starting let alone left out altogether !
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 16, 2021, 08:11:44 am
What do you mean, the stripes on the pitch are distanced?

the pitch is purposefully cut to help the players distance from each other when in and out of possession. i think the lines are every 6 yards but may be corrected on that .
In theory there are always 2 players in support of the player attacking the ball within that distance .
This has been the case and is one reason why we are so solid .
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Swindon (h) on: September 15, 2021, 00:00:57 am
This is a big game .
We have to show attacking intent at home .
We have a bit more in the bag i think and JB has to let loose soon Ö.
Etete and Pinnock will destroy someone soon .
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 14, 2021, 23:53:32 pm
i think this is work in progress .
Defensively we are sound - the keeper is good and we always have 2 players in support out of possession within 6 yards .
Look at the stripes on the pitch at home - they are distanced for a reason.
Clearly we need to work on creativity but we have built a base that is sound .
Sowerby now has to keep his place and itís a case of building on this start .
We need to commit more men forward and i think we will see a side develop .
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 14, 2021, 21:57:54 pm
that was the longest 14 minutes looking at flash scores waiting for it to turn black Ö.
Like the old days of Ceefax ..
Great result .
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 14, 2021, 19:44:35 pm
Etete and Pollock to come on as subs and shred them after 70 minutes and rescue a dull 0.0 from obscurity
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 12, 2021, 21:14:49 pm
i think both Lewis and particularly Flores need to offer much more .
Lewis is pretty much the player we expected but Flores has shown very little so far . Pollock is unlucky not to have been selected in his place.
One of the reasons Smith went was because there were concerns over his knee injury . He was also offered considerably more money by Orient .
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Home against The Iron Saturday 04.09.21 on: September 05, 2021, 07:51:22 am
The biggest positive is how solid we are looking at the back and how disciplined we are when defending across the pitch . There is always one player within 6 yards of another ready to support .
It is a good foundation to build on .
The full backs are now also slowly getting forward .
It is progress .
Clearly we lack flair and creativity in the final third but i think we have sacrificed that for solidity at the moment . Flores and Etete will get better and Pollock is to come .
I think we will get there .
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Home against The Iron Saturday 04.09.21 on: September 04, 2021, 16:42:22 pm
I would like to see Pollock and McWilliams in midfield with hoskins or Pinnock as a number 10 moving forward
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: August 31, 2021, 15:24:16 pm
Revan looks a good signing .
I think it is as much about centre half cover as left back .
It is the creativity that worries me . There is a lot of expectation on Flores with so much reliance on playing wide players
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: EFL Cup v AFC Wimbledon (h) - 24 Aug 21 on: August 25, 2021, 22:20:47 pm
People are quite harsh on Mills .
He got forward well last night and linked play well .
i thought he played okay .
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: EFL Cup v AFC Wimbledon (h) - 24 Aug 21 on: August 25, 2021, 14:32:28 pm
This is actually a very good shout.

Hoskins was originally brought to the club as a striker, many moons ago. Brady went on record last season to say that he was the 'most natural finisher at the club', which would put him ahead of BAS and Rose as a goal threat. Has he ever had a proper run as a striker alongside a competent partner? Probably not, and it's worth giving him a go in the absence of a compelling alternative.

I think he could work alongside Etete; you need a contrast in styles up front if you play 4-4-2 IMO and it might be that Kabamba and Etete are a bit too similar. A bit too early to say for sure, but we'll see.

My main problem with Hoskins comes when he is played on the wing. IMO his crossing and range of passing is simply not at the required level to play that role, which is unsurprising considering it isn't his natural position. Hopefully Connolly will cement his place on the wing and will free Hoskins up to play more centrally.

Thank you 😊
Hoskinsí movement is also good and so i think he could play off a big striker like Etete and create space for him .
He has never played well on the wing and every single manager we have had makes the same mistake .
He can play as a wing back , number 10 or a centre forward off a big man - not a winger .
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: August 25, 2021, 10:06:02 am
There is virtually no chance we will sign anyone before the deadline unless someone comes in for Rose or BAS which is unlikely .
JB is stuck with legacy contracts and canít shift them .
We have to find a more progressive way of playing and ensure we attack the box to get onto the crosses that are put in . We had plenty of chances last night that no one attacked .
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: EFL Cup v AFC Wimbledon (h) - 24 Aug 21 on: August 25, 2021, 07:53:28 am
Last nightís game taught us a few things i believe -
Firstly , we are much better playing with full backs that push on . McGowan was a man possessed going forward and our best outlet .
We are also more fluent playing without two holding midfielders - the jury is truly out on Lewis and Flores but i would like to see Pollock and McWilliams given a chance together .
Etete is a certain pick and is a handful but has to be careful not to be pulled up for fouling when centre halves constantly hold his shirt .
Rose relies on gamesmanship because he has no pace and little else . BAS is useless . Kabamba for me neither holds the ball up or is a goal threat - letís hope he improves .
Pinnock and Etete are our threats and i would play Hoskins running in behind .
