1781  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: FA CUP 2nd round it's .... The Owls on: November 07, 2010, 17:52:01 pm
A Good draw I reckon

A Classic /Good Stadium, if a bit dilapidated

A Good crowd guaranteed

A Good earner for the club

Should be Good away support with a new stadium to tick off for many.....& first time seeing the Cobblers there for me

A chance of another upset on the cards
1782  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Barnet away on: November 05, 2010, 13:39:45 pm
Barnet..,.football at London least a night in town is well worth it.

Time to address our poor record at Underhill.

Crap opposition..... in a non league ground.
1783  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: A Great Christmas Present... on: November 05, 2010, 13:34:20 pm
My first season watching the Cobblers was the famous 1957/58 campaign.

The first match that season was against Aldershot, but my first game was the next match against Coventry City, our local rivals at the time... a game we won 4-0 in front of a crowd of over 12,000.This season saw us fall just below the cut off line for the on Div 3 south...consigned to Div 4.

It did, however, include the fantastic 3-1 cup victory against the Arsenal, including Dave Bowen. Entry was the princely sum of 2 shillings ( Boys ticket, still got). Souvenir programme Sixpence @ double the normal cost.
Great memories.

Really Good to see the 50 /50 draw getting a lot of valuable publicity and also gaining some momentum.

Also a good move to see the tickets being sold in new locations, especially the tavern.....a great target market.

Actually the 50/50 draw is a much better idea than the old golden goal tickets which I use to have in mind.

Progressing the value of prizes.

Reminds me of the old Cobblers Helpline draws which was a real earner.
1785  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Car parts on: November 03, 2010, 21:25:29 pm
Curious timing.
Rewards should be for success, not for relative failure .....has this season been a success so far?
At least he wasn't given it after the Hereford it for when we make the play-offs. imo.

1786  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Thread of its own: Cobblers and Saints on: November 02, 2010, 20:08:17 pm
The thing is......

Is Football or Rugby more important to the good folk of Northampton....viz. Is Northampton a Rugby town?
Most likely it is that more people support football under the banner of many clubs than rugby.

Now if this is narrowed down to Cobblers v. Saints the mo. The Saints are obviously currently in the ascendency.
However, given an even playing field with the similar or perhaps improved resources, together with the Cobblers in the Premiership, let alone top or second in the league.....would the same situation arise???

Now you decide?

+++As for folks in Saints shirts in darkest essex.....when they have never ventured nearer than passing down the M1.... some people just like to associate themselves with success and will change to some other team just as readily.

Also as a Cobblers fan you have probably been thru' every emotion in the book and seen more lows than highs...but remain a fan for life....hoping for a return to the big time some day...but a true fan, however we also attracted the glory hunters at Wembley.
1787  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Thread of its own: Cobblers and Saints on: November 02, 2010, 18:39:34 pm
Yeah and if my mums brother was called Robert. That argument is all based on if's and but's, which barely makes it an argument. More of a whinge.

WTF Roll Eyes ?
No Whinging what so ever......

but life is full ifs and buts.
1788  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lee Geary on: November 02, 2010, 17:23:32 pm
Nope, andy gregg is on alot more!

Is that consecutive games? as per Lee.
Even the keenest fan finds some games which he is unable to go to, for a variety of reasons???
1789  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlsberg Bar on: November 02, 2010, 16:53:10 pm
The Tavern is not the best pub on the planet for sure, but the thought of drinking in the Supporters Bar , with all the petty membership rules. Forget it. Even the Beer is crap if they've ever got any to sell.

1790  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lee Geary on: November 02, 2010, 16:50:48 pm
What a record.

Surely this level of support is unbeatable Huh?
1791  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ben Tozer on: November 02, 2010, 16:47:10 pm
All of a sudden things look better !
1792  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Thread of its own: Cobblers and Saints on: November 02, 2010, 13:34:32 pm
When I made the original comment was because of the sheer number of Saints colours as opposed to Cobblers....if only we could reverse this trend.
It is a trend because success, particularly at a high level, attracts support.
As others have commented the catchment area is also totally different, stretching to London and Suffolk and beyond. I even see jokers walking around Harlow, Essex in Saints tops ( i liken it too Man Ure supporters...never been to Northampton in their life! year the Saracens or Leicester)

Talking to some of those around me on the train on Saturday...I commented that they had spent the journey talking about Football and Darts and not a word about Rugby. They were from Kent & Suffolk and were obviously new recruits to the 'cause", although nicely decked out in shirts and scarfs. But they did also think ours is a Rugby town along with all the other journeymen.

I pointed out with a similar benefactor that ran a tight ship and invested in the ground and had a team with shed loads of internationals on the bench & also as mere squad players....if we were in the top division, let alone 2nd /sometimes top of the Prem League we would be attracting far greater crowds than them ( as we witnessed in 65/66: high teens and many over 20,000 including the nightmare Fulham record of 24,500+.

Good Luck to them, I say it is good for the long as they don't tempt disillusioned Cobblers fans down the gardens. Come on cobblers day maybe.
1793  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lincoln on: November 01, 2010, 22:36:46 pm
An offer that's easy to refuse.

I'd settle for a draw.
1794  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: A bit of "good" news on: November 01, 2010, 22:34:51 pm
Yes Good News.

I hope he can keep relatively fit.....without over doing it .
1795  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Bayo................. on: October 31, 2010, 19:55:15 pm
Move on.
1796  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: What a turnaround on: October 31, 2010, 12:14:48 pm

I hope this is the turning point for Sammo, maybe he has at last grasped the message. You have to earn the right to knock the ball about, you can't just do it and hope the other team lets you.

Sammo has been quoted that he doesn't like playing this way but maybe has learnt a lesson in there, and got the right result.

I'm glad that he has finally could see his intent the minute the team sheet was released. Welcome to the League 2 Reality Show.
1797  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Glen's Ladder on: October 31, 2010, 11:59:48 am
It'll never catch on.
1798  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Thread of its own: Cobblers and Saints on: October 30, 2010, 23:56:43 pm
I am glad we ground out a result today... a reward for it taking nearly 3 hours to get to Sixfields.

I was pissed off sharing the train from London with hundreds of Saints fans who were shouting that Northampton is a rugby town.
1799  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: What a turnaround on: October 30, 2010, 23:53:18 pm
This round to Sammo on points.

To be continued .......
1800  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Retarded Fans on: October 30, 2010, 23:51:39 pm
At least we stopped Bayo from scoring ....I thought that was a certainty.

Bayo seemed to get booed and cheered in equal velocity.
