141  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: February 22, 2023, 11:54:40 am

Yeah, the Norbital or is 30km too far?  Tongue

There are loads of double back points to do loops down that way. Sixfields to Midsummer Meadow is nice, only crossing one road near Carlsberg.

I'll look into that. Yeah 30ksm is too far! I often go along the Nene from Weston Mill as far as Southbridge so would be nice to go further out for a change.

Here are the facts on Sixfields Lake :
https://interests.me/org/northamptoninfo/story/106746/amp
It’s an area of 1 hectare (2.47acres) with a walk of 3.5miles which can be completed in less than 1 hour, bird watchers might dwell longer! Before you made your assertion on this proposed ‘huge’ site did you bother to evaluate your claim first?

Is this a circular route that you could run around? Does it have any actual paths rather than just grass? Always looking for new scenic places to run.
143  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Into The Romans Den - Colchester United (a) - Saturday 25th February 2023 on: February 21, 2023, 18:23:40 pm
Good for Gareth Ainsworth, should be good for us as Bloomfield appeared to be behind Col Us relative upturn in recent weeks. A timely speedbump?

I know a couple of Colchester fans and they are very upset that Bloomfield has left, so I’m hoping this could be the lift we need to kick-start our promotion run-in. We have some reasonable looking fixtures to come so let’s make the most of this timely departure and go all out for the win.
I’m making my first trip to their new ground.
144  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Automatic Promotion on: February 19, 2023, 11:02:55 am
15 games to go, we sit on 52 points so need probably another 28 points or so to secure top 3. Our last 15 games have yielded only 21 points,5 wins, 6 draws, 4 defeats which would leave us on 73, probably enough for a play-off spot. Our first 15 games of the season yielded 30 points, 9 wins, 3 defeats, 3 draws. I'm not sure I can see us matching our first 15 games unless we can get some consistent team selection and the right attacking blend. I'm also not sure I would want to see us face any of Mansfield, Stockport or Salford in the play-offs!
145  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Grimsby Sat. 18th Feb. on: February 18, 2023, 20:24:29 pm
Bloody hell mate, you're easily pleased. That was fųcking terrible. We've just lost at home to a team in 19th place.

I guess after supporting us for over 35 years I've come to not expect too much!
146  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Grimsby Sat. 18th Feb. on: February 18, 2023, 18:23:06 pm
I didn't think we were that bad today. The formation seemed to work quite well with Lintott and Koiki making plenty of forays forward and creating chances. There wasn't much between the two sides and Grimsby took their chances well. We didn't takeours othen than the well worked goal. But Koiki was at fault defensively for sure. Appere played well in terms of link up and pressing but doesn't win any headers and rarely gets any shots away or in positions to score. Pinnock cannot play in the middle and needs to be out wide, or preferably dropped for DWP who for some reason didn't get any minutes.  JB has some dilemmas. Successful sides are usually sides that have consistency in team selection but JB will have to keep tweaking until we find the right blend again, whatever that might be.

5000 odd at home when 4th in league that's shocking

That was one of our better Tuesday night attendances. They are often under 5,000. I was surprised it was so high and didn’t feel it looked like it with a near empty East Stand (home section) and empty South Stand.
148  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Real Dons on: February 15, 2023, 06:30:32 am
Keep the faith, we’ll be back on a good run soon

We’re already on the good run, unbeaten in 4. Win on Saturday to make it 5 and go 3rd with a game in hand on Carlisle. New lads are settling in, we have options from the bench, look more solid at the back with King assured behind them. Just need to tweak something to get that spark back.
149  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Automatic Promotion on: February 15, 2023, 06:25:36 am
Still, we’re unbeaten in 4 games. Just need that little bit of luck in games to turn them draws into wins. We’ll be alright. Don’t panic.
150  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Fourth Tier Titles on: February 05, 2023, 09:10:56 am
Our title ambitions have stalled recently, although a 10 point gap with a game in hand isn't entirely impossible to turn around although it would take us returning to our early season form immediately. We have also dropped way off the pace compared to our 1986/87 and 2015/16 title winning seasons. It would take something remarkable to get back on track and match or exceed the 99 point mark now.
After 28 games:
86/87 - 68 points, 75 goals
15/16 - 61 points, 51 goals
22/23 - 50 points, 42 goals
151  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Get some bloody ball boys! on: February 05, 2023, 09:05:20 am

Agree with this!

We went 74 minutes without having a shot on target!

Apart from Mitch Pinnock's first half effort tipped over by their keeper.
152  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Walsall at home on Saturday 04.02.23 on: February 03, 2023, 08:44:05 am
I do like the 'leather derby'. They will bring a few so hopefully a good atmosphere after such a ling time without a home game (33 days) and 2 months since the last Saturday home game. I've almost forgotten the drill.
We need to be winning these games if we have serious top 3 aspirations. Sneaky 2-1.
153  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2023 Transfer Window on: February 02, 2023, 11:57:28 am
On probable injury recovery/fitness something like this for Saturday

                                          King
 Odimayo/McGowan       Magloire     Guthrie      Koiki
                                    Sowerby
                      McWilliams             Fox
 Hoskins                        Appere                      Wright-Phillips

Bench: Maxted, Odimayo/McGowan, Sherring, Leonard, Pinnock, Yengi, Harrop

A strong bench and strong line-up in the stands with those who don't make the cut. Interesting dilemma for JB. As my old boss used to say when our factory had too much work, a good problem to have.

154  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Where will we finish? on: February 01, 2023, 12:28:20 pm
Carlisle are on a great run but they'll have a wobble. They have a tough March and April. We have had our wobble and have strengthened so am confident of us going on another decent run.
155  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2023 Transfer Window on: January 31, 2023, 13:01:20 pm
Suspicion is a song by Terry Stafford whose initials are TS = Tyreece Simpson ? just wishful thinking.

Or we are re-signing Steve Terry. Or someone from Stafford Rangers  Grin
156  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Automatic Promotion on: January 16, 2023, 12:15:09 pm
Great data and lovely graph.
Current form is the worry though, we need to arrest the dip quickly.
157  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: v Stockport (a) 14th Jan on: January 11, 2023, 11:35:20 am
Barry Lines - the first player to score in all 4 divisions of the Football League.
158  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Orient Home 2nd Jan '23 on: January 02, 2023, 20:44:59 pm
A tepid dis-jointed first half followed by an explosive second half. But both keepers only had one real save of note to make plus we scored the crucial goal. Orient were nothing special, although were missing a couple of key players. We missed Appere's energy. I still say we need a 'proper' striker and maybe one wide player. Great result and gives us a nice cushion over 4th.
159  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Fourth Tier Titles on: January 02, 2023, 19:23:01 pm
24 games in
86/87 - 61 points, 68 goals
15/16 - 49 points, 42 goals
22/23 - 46 points, 39 goals

so we have dropped off a little since the last update. In 15/16 we were on the second of ten consecutive wins. I don't think we will have that sort of run this season. In 86/87 we had peaked by now, only 2 wins in the next 6 games but already had those 61 points in the bag!
160  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Where's Colin? on: December 30, 2022, 10:35:48 am
Colin Calderwood has been absent from the dugout for the last few games. Strange how there has been no mention of it anywhere (unless I have missed it). Does anybody know where he is? I hope he is ok. If it is something personal or family related then that is understandable. I just think it is strange nothing has been said by the club. I have seen that he took part in a Parkrun in Scotland sometime over Christmas which would indicate he himself is not unwell.
