I see that Turnbull cannot make the starting 11 at Salford and is bench warming. So far this season all the points they have are from their home games, 2 wins (Newport 3-0, Bradford 1-0), 2 draws (L.Orient 1-1, Sutton 0-0) and 1 defeat (Swindon 0-1). So they have only conceded 2 in 5 games but like us they have only scored more than once on 1 occasion.

Scored a hat-trick for Villa U23's last night in a 4-2 win against WBA.

Quite an entertaining game which we certainly did not deserve to lose and looked the more likely winners although we were slow out of the blocks and took about 1/4 hour to get into the game.
Strange goings on in the first half as the ref had awarded the goal and the lino had not flagged for an infringement so odd to then have it ruled out. I assumed that as they had a free kick from where their player was on the ground it was for a foul on that player. It now appears it was on the intervention of the 4th official.
Koiki rightly given man of the match and once again we generally defended pretty well.
The only downside was we picked up 4 totally avoidable yellow cards and certain players are fast heading for a suspension. Rose, McWilliams and Hoskins all now have 3 yellows (Hoskins 4 if his cup booking counts) after only 8 games and of these players only McWilliams plays in a position where this is acceptable although his yellow today was stupid in running up to the ball when Swindon were about to take a free kick and then pushing their player. Putting this into context our back 4 have a total of 5 bookings between them and as defenders you would expect them to be picking up the higher number of bookings. Perhaps we should start fining players who get yellows when they should not be.

Between now and the end of October we have a great opportunity to establish ourselves at the top of the table. We have 8 games with 5 of those at home and after Swindon the only other game against any of the other current top 10 is our away game at Hartlepool.

When covid started I began cutting our lawns in the same way to help distance ourselves from each other.

From what I have seen of Swindon on tv highlights they seem to have a decent 'keeper in Joe Wollacott.
According to one of their fans posts the don't cope well with a high press, are you aware JB?

Very true Coolcat, apparently only black lives matter, no chance of "the black & white minstrels" in this day and age, golliwogs are not allowed etc etc etc.
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: What do you think of Sixfields Stadium? on: September 15, 2021, 20:09:05 pm
I don't think the England band owe us anything but PTS owe us £70,000.
I would not want a 30,000 stadium, at the moment, with us unlikely to get over 6000 in this division and probably no more than 10,000 in division 1 with teams who bring a large following. This equate to only 1 seat in 5 taken in div.2 and 1 seat in 5 taken in div.1. When we play at Stadium MK the atmosphere is generated from the away end with us all being seated together. Very little from MK supporters spread around the rest of the stadium. I prefer a smaller capacity with a higher % of seats filled until we are near to needing anything much larger.

It's about time your mate got some attention, have you called for an ambulance?

Swindon's best results have come on the road,4 points from 4 home games, 7 points from 3 away games. They won 3-1 at Scunny, won 1-0 at Salford and drew 1-1 at Stevenage. But so far they have not played any of the top 10 in the division. Like us they are struggling for goals as their opening day 3-1 win at Scunny is the only game they have scored more than 1.
We have Brett Huxtable as referee who appears to disliked by supporters of most clubs. General comments of unfit, overweight and struggles to keep up with play and his past displays here have not been impressive.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 15, 2021, 10:45:12 am
On a lighter note this result shows how big the north-south divide is.
Newport 0 Southampton 8
Newport 0 Northampton 1

As others have said we are 3rd without yet clicking as an attacking force where there is clearly work to be done. It will be interesting to see if Brady sticks with Kabamba on saturday or brings back Etete who did well when he came on. Also hopefully Sowerby will be ok as he was not moving well when subbed.
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 14, 2021, 22:02:31 pm
Bungle, according to Radio Northampton Newport were playing 4-4-2, don't argue with our Tim.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 14, 2021, 20:49:28 pm
We are not the only team in the division playing 4-4-2 as Newport are also playing 4-4-2 tonight and some of our previous opposition have. Up to 3rd and Newport have only had 1 shot at goal, off target, great chance of 3 points although I expect their manager will get into them at the break. Comments on Radio Northampton that with strikers going into wide positions we are not getting enough men in the box.
I see Kabonga Tshimanga scored twice in the first 10 minutes for Chesterfield.

Swindon supporter says they have sold out their 946 south stand allocation but have been refused the extra 400 for the east stand. Presumably to the recent troubles caused at Stevenage.
Not sure of the thinking on this as the troublemakers could already have bought their tickets in the south.
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 14, 2021, 13:44:04 pm
Let's hope our defence doesn't spring a LEEK.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Newport Away on: September 13, 2021, 19:49:34 pm
Interesting to see how we fare travelling to a foreign land for an international match. Our record away to Newport is decent as we have come away with some points from just over 50% of the total away fixtures.
Lose and we will have a mid table 50-50 record of 3 wins and losses and 1 draw.
Perhaps the referee is a good omen as none of his 5 games this season have resulted in a home win.
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Injury Updates.... on: September 12, 2021, 19:27:14 pm
Harriman was on the bench as injury cover as he has played all across the back 4.
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 12, 2021, 12:10:23 pm
They usually say that you can see where you are after 10 league games but I think we know already where our strengths and weaknesses lie.
4 goals conceded in 6 games, only 1 team with fewer.
5 goals scored in 6 games, only 3 teams with fewer.
Yesterday we finally met opposition from the top end of the table and almost escaped with an undeserved goal-less draw. It could have been a heavier defeat but for Roberts and a fine goal-line clearance from McGowan but I'm not sure FGR deserved more than the single goal victory.
But we failed to lay a glove on them as an attacking force and herein lies the problem. A lack of creativity of scoring opportunities means rely heavily on our defence to keep us in the game.
Our victory against  a poor 10 man Scunny team can now be seen in a different light after they got hammered by Exeter 4-0 at home yesterday.
Probable time to give Sowerby and Pollock a chance to show what they can do although last week Lewis was getting into the box regularly and should have had a goal. I also thought it strange that Pinnock was dropped yesterday.
Anyway onto Newport and if can get the win 3 points from 2 away games will be a good return.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: September 10, 2021, 20:27:43 pm
Oh please no. 36 years old and 3 goals in his last 40 games. PNE supporters could not wait to get rid of him saying he was totally immobile and he did not pull up any trees at Tranmere.
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Forest Green Rovers (a) on: September 09, 2021, 12:27:33 pm
FGR are the divisions highest scorers but only 5 teams in the division have conceded more and they only managed to score once against our very makeshift defence last week.
After going unbeaten for the first 5 games they have not won any of the 4 games since, let's even that up and make it 5. We can definately get something from this game if our defence maintains its good form.
