1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: November 02, 2021, 15:43:42 pm
Sorry what WNC members are on the Trust ?

I presume WhiteDogDo is referring to the 2 West Northants Councillors which are liaising with the Trust board.

This is what annoys me the most about a lot of the posts on here from all people. A little explanation to correct a misconception is all that is needed here, not a passive aggressive question that tees up the next post that will then look to make the poster look bad. Would you talk to someone in this way face to face? Probably not. More leeway would be given.

Sorry to pick on you here, random. It's just that your post was the most recent example of it. Far too many posts tend to not explain themselves fully - a part of the social media problem perhaps?

I'm gonna get back in my box now. Good day gents.

It's certainly going to be a tough test.

Interestingly a number of player who we were linked to over the summer have signed for Charlton. The likes of Ryan Innes and Omar Bogle were both mentioned in the transfer thread at one point or another.

If you want to hear the Charlton perspective then you can listen to Addicks fan Louis Mendez on The Preview Show, a brand new weekly podcast from Danny and I on It's All Cobblers To Me. Click here to listen to this week's episode.

I think it's on the record on the Chron to say we didn't land our top targets.

To me this says that we were either looking at the wrong players or we weren't prepared to pay enough to land those targets.

At least Lloyd Jones is coming to the rescue.

Just spat my tea out!
6  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Plymouth Argyle (a) on: October 17, 2020, 15:58:39 pm
Absolutely agree Nut.

Some positives this week for me in the way we played for around 15 minutes in the 2nd half. We need more of that if we are to ever win a game again though.

Defence and goalkeeper at fault for both goals which is so poor.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crowd trials on: September 23, 2020, 08:49:43 am
On a separate but related topic, I had no idea until I just read it that COVID testing isn’t mandatory for the EFL but is in the Premier league - spurs paid for orient to have testing ahead of their league cup game and the positive tests led to the match being postponed. If true it makes you wonder how many positives are floating around the football league and makes the temperature checks that you see the players and officials having when they arrive at the grounds pretty pointless if they’re asymptomatic.

This is startling news.

I presumed that testing was continuing but I actually feel pretty silly considering the club haven't been making any announcements regarding player testing results like they were during the play offs. It makes you wonder how long this can go on for.

Brilliant pod cast, was great listening again, still got nervous during the penalties!! Didnt know the team sheet got leaked to us either.

A day never to be forgotten thats for sure. Was lucky enough to watch every game in the cup that year and the Reading game was also a brilliant performance.

Thanks Woody!
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: It's All Cobblers To Me Podcast on: September 10, 2020, 22:23:01 pm
Just as a general post I want to say that I give a lot of time, heart and sole into It's All Cobblers To Me and I do it with the hope that people enjoy it.

I started the podcast 2 years ago now and a lot has changed in that time.

All 4 of us go to games and are recognised by people we don't know.
We have a great relationship with the people who run the football club. Over the years they've given us free tickets to give away on the podcast and access to players, the manager and the chairman.
I've made 3 amazing friends in Danny, Neil and Chessie and I've met many more people too.

I'm fully aware that you can't please everyone all of the time and that is absolutely ok.

We only ever give our own opinions. No one apart from me has any editorial say in what we talk about. If Nicky Adams has a s*** game (sorry to use you Nicky!) then we'll say it. If we believe the Trust aren't acting in the best interests of us (Charles, Danny, Neil, Chessie) we'll say it. If we believe that the club's owners are hiding anything we'll say it. We've even taken the mick out of poor Gareth Willsher for his commentary skills.

I'll be very honest and say that I don't understand why anyone would begrudge us putting a small amount of content behind a paywall. I'm not forcing anyone to sign up. If you don't want to that's cool. I understand that not everyone has a spare £2 or the inclination to give money to someone they've never met.

I thought long and hard about writing anything in reply to this thread as I take it all very personally. The podcast was my idea, my creation and yes, my baby. I get annoyed when Neil turns up late or Chessie interrupts because she's forgotten we are recording a podcast. Danny doesn't get off scott free either but my point is that I love making it for you.

There is now a 2nd podcast available in the resurrected What A Load Of Cobblers. You should listen to that too and give Tom, Andy, Ian, Jake, Martin and Jefferson your support.

There is also the Cobblers Vlogs YouTube channel run by Matt and Will. 2 young lads who are forging their careers in the media by creating content about the Cobblers.

And not forgetting of course, Marc Webber and The Cobblers Show on BBC Northampton on Thursday nights. It's also available as a podcast on BBC Sounds by the way.

For a club of our size we are spoiled for choice when it comes to content and I urge you to support all of it as much as you can. The easiest way to do that is to listen/watch/read what is being produced. Anything on top of that is a huge bonus for all of us.

Thanks for reading. I'll see you Sunday on our Facebook page when we go live for the 100th episode of It's All Cobblers To Me.

Without wanting it to sound like a dig (I like listening to the podcast except when it sometimes descends into in-jokes too much) I have always wondered where the money from Patreon in podcasts actually goes - I thought it was a labour of love where 4 cobblers fans just record a conversation once a week? I’m happy to be put right and there may be overheads in equipment (again I’ve no idea how this is done) but where does the money go - do the 4 supporters take some kind of a “wage”?

Hi Irchy,

I'm always happy to answer any questions.

All of the Patreon money comes to me and that is a joint decision made by all 4 of us.

The money is used to pay for equipment (eg. microphones, editing software), podcast hosting (the distribution website that provides the RSS feed to Apple Podcasts, Spotify et al.) and the website hosting and domain.

Plus it is put towards some other things that will become clear in the very near future. I hate to be cryptic but I'm not ready to announce what we've lined up as yet.

I believe in transparency. I kind of have to with some of the criticisms I have laid at the door of the Trust in recent times! Anyway, that is why I choose to show the number of people who are signed up to our Patreon and the amount of money they pledge (in total) each month on the front page of the Patreon website.

Along with presenting and voiceover work, I make podcasts for a living. A very small percentage of that living comes from the money that is pledged through Patreon.

I'll take your feedback regarding in-jokes on board. It can be quite difficult to not get lost in the moment and refer to things we say to each either daily via our WhatsApp group. We'll try to keep them out of the pod as much as possible.

To answer your other question about the currency. Patreon is an American platform and at the time I set it up, the only option was to pay in dollars. You are now able to choose the currency you pay in ($,£ or €) but this has only become available recently and, as far as I'm aware, is only given as an option to new sign ups.

As I said to Jolly, if you have anymore questions I'd be happy to answer them.

Charles

Honestly, I thought it was a bit sour using the KT interview as a way to strongarm support. Only a personal opinion, although I'm far from the only one who feels this way. Still, personally I think you'd have far more success in gaining (keeping) Patreons if people opted-in because they genuinely wanted to support the project. Perhaps more annoying was the fact that during the following show your team went out of its way to avoid giving away even a snippet of the details surrounding Kelvin's interview. Serious question, when Kelvin Thomas agreed to appear on the program, did you make it known to him that he wouldn't be addressing the Cobbler's masses and that the interview would be exclusive to Patreons?

Hi Jolly,

I'm really sorry you feel that way. I'm not trying to strongarm anyone. If you want to sign up and support us you can. If you don't, you don't. The whole reason we do these Q&As is glad a thank you to those who do sign up. We did one with Nicky Adams before the play offs and it went down really well so we wanted to do another one.

Kelvin was fully aware of what he was doing and was quite happy to do it. We actually asked him to.come on the pod at first but due to not having much more to say than "I'm waiting to hear back from the Trust", we decided to do the Q&A first.
We will be having him on the podcast for everyone to hear in the coming weeks.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I love talking about podcasting.

Charles

The article is probably based on the conversation that Kelvin had with the media on Thursday last week. The Chron always spread their articles out across the course of a week. You would think the Trust would know this considering their chairman's profession.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2020 Transfer Window on: August 24, 2020, 13:19:01 pm
I don't think Broom is the right player for our style.

There is a lot more to it than just going out and picking up the best players. Real Madrid proved that years ago with the Galacticos. Great players don't make a great team.
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: August 24, 2020, 10:46:37 am
The Trust's open letter reply to the Club was ridiculous.

The Trust stated the 5 things that they would require to happen for them to support the Club's intentions with regards the deal with NBC.

The Club reply to each of those 5 points. Agreeing with 3, disagreeing with 1 and wondering what the final point has to do with the Trust's remit.

The Trust then reply adding more issues to the original 5.

These additions to the original points should have been made on the zoom call and discussed with the Club. That was the point of it!

Let's be honest Vintage, you have no intention of meeting anyone else in the middle. You are firmly against the current owners of the football club and nothing will ever change your mind.
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: August 24, 2020, 10:20:32 am
Of course there is an agenda. Just because people at the Trust don't like the word doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

What the above quote should really say is that the Trust's agenda regarding fan ownership is to look into it as a just in case/last resort situation if the worst happens and the club finds itself without an owner who is willing to put his/her hands in their pocket any longer.

I personally think it is perfectly acceptable for the Trust to do this.

The problem, for me comes whenever anyone asks them a question. Considering their constant retort is to say that all they are doing is asking questions, they hate being asked them themselves.

Whenever the Trust is asked a question, the answer they give is full on defensive. They never actually provide an answer in my experience. Instead, you just get the usual soundbites about asking questions and preparing for the future.

Earlier, someone mentioned about meeting minutes and I actually believe that, in the interests of transparency minutes should be made available of meetings that the Trust have. Be that with the council, football club or amongst themselves. At least make them available to the membership.

I'd suggest it would go a long way to getting people back onside.

All the transfer monies received are grouped together and separately, all the transfer monies paid out are grouped.

So whilst the accounts will show how much was paid and received for "player registrations", they aren't itemised.

You've got to remember that the accounts are released a year later. So in June 2020, the accounts for the year ending June 2019 were made available on Companies House.
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Leyton Orient (h) Pre-season Friendly on: August 23, 2020, 09:47:42 am
On Mark Marshall.

Down the right he looks good but down the left he doesn't. I expect him to be a reserve/impact player off the bench and nothing more this season.

The back 5 looked good and I was impressed by both Bolger and Horsfall. Add Racic into that back 3 and I think we'll be good. If we then get Wharton back as well - a big if by the way - then I'll expect us to concede very little from open play this season.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2020 Transfer Window on: August 23, 2020, 09:45:20 am
Robbie Simpson, Nathan Tyson, Curtis Yebli.

ALL played for NTFC during pre-season last year.

NONE were signed.

While it doesn't necessarily mean that the same will happen again this year, I highly doubt we will be signing any of the trialists which were on show yesterday. The only one that I see as a possibility is Ricky Korboa but I doubt he will be a first choice player if he does.

All I'm saying is don't read into trialists too much. KT has said that we are looking at getting 4 strikers in. I highly doubt German will be 1 of them.
