In all the talk on here about the future of Ian Sampson, the one thing being said in his favour repeated over and over again was that "we were now playing good football".
So what does Sammo do to turn the tide? He drops arguably our two most gifted and talented players in Thorton and Jacobs, sticks Holt back on the left midfield so we can spend most of the game lumping balls up to him to head on, which he did most successfully I might add.
What a turnaround to events.

You have to be able to 'win ugly' in this division. Sammo put out a side to do that today. Congratulations to him and the players.

thats right mate, he wants to play attacking football but if it aint winning him games, then he'll need to change to the way league2 football needs to be played, just to shut up all the doubters. i just want him to keep winning games getting 3 points and proving everybody wrong.

You're missing the point (as usual). You all said the reason you want Sammo to stay is that he plays "pretty football" yet he had to resort to the long ball punt up to Holtys head to get success, something you said you were fed up with. You're hypocrites!
I hope this is the turning point for Sammo, maybe he has at last grasped the message. You have to earn the right to knock the ball about, you can't just do it and hope the other team lets you.

Indeed a turnaround, though I guess the worry is that 'Holt on a stick' football can only last for so long, once teams found a way to combat this in League One we started going backwards at a rate of knots.
I think Sammo decided to go back to basics today, it reminded me very much of an Atkins performance, strong from set-pieces, strong at the back, and sitting deep but keeping a good shape when we did have the lead.
The one thing that is obvious is Sammo hasn't 'lost' the dressing-room, it may have been 6 defeats in a row but there haven't been too many signs of us throwing in the towel completely. (Hereford aside)
I can't stand when people comment that you 'can't' get out of League Two playing good football, it's utterly absurd nonsense, however perhaps it is more important that the footballers in the team can graft a little too with games more frequently descending into phsyical battles.

Important win today, but a long long long way to go before anyone can say we've turned the corner, or let alone achieve anything.

Precisely. The teams who will be most successful in a division like this one are the likes of Chesterfield and Shrewsbury- they can play some beautiful stuff when they want to, but they can also grind out results and nick three points in games where the opposition is having the better of the play, by shutting up shop and hitting them on the break. Today this team showed they can do the grinding out results bit and we all know they can play pretty football when it suits- the key is doing it at the appropriate times.

Marvo is spot on, What we needed today more than just 3 points was a sign that Sammo can be a Manager and do whats needed to get a win. I think he proved that a bit today by changing things around. I do think that this maybe was forced on him with the pressure he's been under but well done sammo. We need to build on this or it will be as i've said earlier just papering over the cracks. so far though Sammo 1 - Doubters 0

My what is missing the point? Or do you mean you're? Capitals as well, make sure we notice why don't you. As soon as people resort to insults, you know you've won the argument. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say I'm sorry you are unable to understand such a simple premise.

For those like me who just want Sammo to succeed I wonder if you share the same heightened sense of delight at every win and of disappointment (for Sammo) at every loss. I am sat here thinking how any daydream I might have had of playing in the Championship is currently overshadowed by the hope that one day Sammo might takes us back to Wembley as our Manager ... maybe a game or two played in the Atkins style wouldn't be such a bad thing. Daydreams never did anyone any harm. Well I can get all sloppy and sentimental if I want It's been a good day, ending with Rod on the tele and looking forward to breakfast

Ian Atkins did say on the radio in the week he & Sammo had spoken so maybe Atkins is at Sixfields in spiritual terms.

Do you know what "Nemesis" means?
A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent personified in this case by a sex starved voyeur that is Tyro.

Other than the second half bored me to tears, I don't think you can compare to an Atkins like performance.

I think every Cobblers fan undoubtedly wants Sammo to succeed, but clearly with now 5 wins in 25 games his tactics and playing style have been wrong. As good a win as yesterday's was, we need to now follow that up with another positive result at Sincil Bank on Tuesday, not an easy place to go at the best of times. Beating Gillingham 2-1 on the back of six defeats, three of them to teams you expect to be in and around the relegation zone, is just the first step. Personally I want Sammo to be a successful Northampton Town manager, he's a true Legend at this Football Club. I didn't think he was the right choice, I thought the 3 year contract on the back of our only half decent run in the last 2 years was rediculous but he has my support and I think the threads about the choice of next manager were very wrong and insulting towards him. I'm a doubter, but if he gets us out of this mess and gets us moving back up this league and proves me wrong then I'll be delighted. Still one win from our last one game, it's a positive stat.

Sammo has been quoted that he doesn't like playing this way but maybe has learnt a lesson in there, and got the right result. I'm glad that he has finally realised...you could see his intent the minute the team sheet was released. Welcome to the League 2 Reality Show.
