It isn't because just a couple of years ago we played Dagenham away in a must win match to stay in the entire league.
We also played at Wembley to get into the second tier of football. That was quite big.

I remember when we went a goal down to Oxford on the last game on the season which would have relegated us to non league.

So am I - we have not scored up there in three visits let alone get a point. Based on Tuesday's effort would only swap Long or Lucky for vV who appears not match fit. Would not select McWilliams in place of JJOT as prefer Foley or Poole(if available), just don't think McWilliams is a suitable replacement for JJOT. So only two enforced changes could be one if vV pronounced fit....is this acceptable Coolie as me no tinkerman?

Don't worry about past results at Fleetwood. I am quite confident...and to help the cause, I'm not going!  Wink

 Grin Grin

Missed the away game part!!

Definitely the most 'important' game I've been to. Really though we were buried and in the conference within a few minutes of kickoff. Oxford fans and players desperate to relegate Wilder.

1993 season is a bit before I started going.

We owe them something up there. We've been turgid every time I've watched us there, which is painful as I lived there for nigh on 20 years, watched them in the NW Counties and even played a couple of games for their reserve side when it was made up of Sunday League players

I really want to go but I am such a jinx. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw us win "live" and i'm talking about 12 games now. It's better I stat away and then regret not going when we stuff them (or more likely, rag a 1-0 win).

Good luck and safe journey to all going

Has been in the matchday squad once or twice, don't think he has made an appearance yet though.

Jack Bridge, I think he's more of a wide player and/or behind the front man rather than and out and out centre midfield player. Fitness levels aren't what they should be either, apparently.

Forgot all about him! Bit like I am until somebody mentions Hartlepool. Completely forget that the place exists for 99% of the time

Anything less than the commitment shown on Tuesday night will mean the players and manager will get severely criticised .
It just goes to show that the really poor performances at home since January have deserved the suppoerters’ wrath because the efffort and energy was way below where it should have been .
We also played round pegs in round holes and made sensible substitutions .
If we revert back to half *rsed football and obscure team choices , then there should be no holding back in the vocal criticism during games because we have contrived our own downfall .
Let’s hope a leaf has been turned to get the 4 wins we need .
Sadly I think it’s too much to ask .

I think O'Toole and Crooks being suspended is obviously a big loss.... but on the positives I feel it will force a repeat of the 3-5-2 formation we saw on Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing what combination of strikers we go with, with Long starting my personal preference. He looks like the type of player who enjoys scoring against former clubs.

I would agree that Long should start , hopefully alongside VV .
He deserves to play in a front two at some point .

I don’t see any chance of Mathis losing his place after his performance on Tuesday - Long would be more likely of providing a goal scoring threat but jimmy likes work rate at that’s what Boris provides. I would imagine that van veen is more likely to miss out as he’s obviously nowhere near fit but if he’s out then luckasson will be the big man that will replace him.

They are a big loss, both score goals which is quite a useful asset in a relegation battle. I would go for Foley instead of McWilliams mainly for experience but he can also find the net. Foley has been properly f***ed around by Jimmy but hopefully he’ll still have the right attitude for what is a massive game!

Football is all about opinions and it’s great when others get a different view , but I couldn’t disagree with you more on this .
Granted , Mathis set the goal up with good skill but he doesn’t look cut out for men’s division 1 football to me .
He did nothing but whinge throughout the game and no one came over to him when he was rolling around the floor , neither did jimmy shake his hand when he came off or say anything at all .
I would have any of the other strikers in front of him every day of the week .

You’re misunderstanding me - this isn’t necessarily what I want it’s what I think will happen. I agree to an extent with you - Mathis looks very raw but he is quickish and never stops running and you’ve got to agree that he was key for our goal on Tuesday (I’m sure you’ll come back and say he was culpable for their goal but I think that’s a bit harsh). I can’t see him scoring many goals which is why Jimmy is going to have to make a choice between him and Long but I can see him going for the work rate rightly or wrongly. The final judgment on Mathis is if you look in the motm thread where many chose him as our best player on Tuesday.

I would agree that he played a big part in the goal .
He also gives something from throw ins which are much better when Facey takes them quickly.
You are right , JFH goes for workmanlike players which is why he keeps picking Hoskins and to a lesser extent Powell. Let’s see what happens on Saturday but I bet he is cautious .

I'm pretty sure Lucky is going to start up top regardless, VV looked well off the pace and limped off to boot.

Mathis vs Long is an interesting one. Long has scored goals for us (particularly away from home) but is never going to be one to put in a 90 minute shift of chasing everything down. Mathis on the other hand seemed to have plenty of energy in hassling people, plus looked to have a little bit of class about him at times.

I agree with B&S that he spent far too much time whinging at the ref when he didn't get anything, but surely we can work that out of him. He's a young lad who hasn't played a lot of football at our level so maybe thinks he can get away with it.

I wouldn't mind seeing the two of them together, but we need someone to lump the ball up to....

On reflection JJs punch up was just what the squad needed, a bit of team bonding, beats the sh1t out of paintball? Bit of a dilemma though, does Jimmy stick with Tuesday’s formation, or does he revert to what we have been doing away from home? Let’s be honest, this has served us pretty well so far, so does he keep the Shrewsbury set up just for at home? Honestly not sure on either what I think he should do, or what he will do, it’s a right conundrum?

.....agreed, in most of the games this season the rest would have just stood there with their arms folded waiting for the tussle to finish - even without that I thought Tuesday actually showed one of the best team spirit performances of the season.

With that you don't get relegated as long as we have not left it too late and repeat that effort.
