Who did we miss out on them ntfclad?

Missed out on a young lad from the championship, and today’s striker signing wasn’t pursued for various reasons. One being we weren’t that desperate for one.

Right about the short term loans though.
No long term planning

No cup money spent.
Ambitious clubs like Swindon sign Yates on loan, get Doyle back for a fee and sign Hallam hope for a fee.

Despite all the spin/turd polishing, the club has gained around 700k of extra unbudgeted revenue and are championing three loan signings.....

Short term fixes when the club had a chance to spend to improve the club going forward.

The club is going nowhere despite the spin.
The money is not being channeled into the squad and still fans can’t see why the club goes around in circles....
A proper club would have invested in a young striker with sell on value.
Tried to sign Wharton who they could have sold on but no....
£0 invested in the clubs future at a time when they had an unexpected windfall.

I hate to say it but that is the difference between the cobblers and the fen dwellers
One club speculates and reaps the rewards with millions of pounds of players sales,a redeveloped ground and a club that’s going forward and the cobblers get in loans.....
If the lad from arsenal does do well at the cobblers it’ll be the likes of peterborough who buy him to sell on along with the likes of Wharton and Goode.

This has been a poor transfer window and of zero benefit to the club going forward.

Hey ho
Fair play to you diehards and enjoy the rest of the season
A big rebuilding job in the summer with many gaps to fill.

Nonsense. Theres obviously no guarantees with anything and anyone on paper, but on paper a great window. Despite all the handwringing about it being a nothing on the cheap loan, the arsenal kid comes in and gets motm in a 3-0 victory. We pick up a winger who a few years ago was one of the highest rated in League 1. And we lastly pick up a championship level centre back who is rated enough by their fans, and effectively could end up just as injury cover. All without having to risk being the next Bury. Seems like a good window to me.

Spot on. I'm holding judgement on Jones until I see him play, but the signs he will be decent are very promising.

The other three signings look very good.

It's looking like an excellent window to me.

Hang on....

Come the end of the season none of them will be our players....

Wharton won’t belong to us

Cornell will be out of contract

Oliver will be out of contract

Williams will be out of contract

Harriman will be out of contract

Anderson will be out of contract

Turnbull will be free to talk to other clubs

I make that a full 11 players(there may be more) that won’t belong to the cobblers....

Does that make my point about the cobblers failing to look long term seem so silly?

I think not

There IS no long term planning
It is all built on sand

I’d be asking why that is ??

I think we have done well to hold on to our best players .
That will be down to KT and he deserves credit .
It’s been a good window for us there is no doubt about it !

That's good because in League One we will need League One level players...and won't need to pay off all of those from League Two. That's decent financial planning.

Speaking in riddles again - so why is it that we have arrived to such a disastrous situation? Remedy?

If we are promoted we'll likely be looking at bringing in other players. Some of those you listed would sign new deals (if the club decided to offer them one) and the others would be replaced, possibly by better players. Happens to most teams who are promoted.

For example, how many were out of contract at the end of the 15/16 promotion season?

Marquis, Collins, Rose, Martin and Prosser for starters.

In fact I make it only 9 players from that promotion who were in the squad for the next season.

As much as most of you hate it, shoemaker isn't far off the mark. Why do you think we never last long in the league above, and have never had any sustained period of success?

We are near the top of the League instead of the bottom.
The squad has been improved.
The club debt has been greatly reduced.
Fans are following the team in great numbers.

'Jonah' Shoemaker the wheels have really come off this season........NOT!!

A great window. Didnt lose any key players and brought in

1. A quality winger in Marshall - Although both now at the end of their careers, him and Adams on either wing would be the envy of any L1/L2 side over the last decade.

2. A quality CB which means we now have 4 who could hold their own in L1 at least

3. 2 x hungry young players who add something different to the squad.

We're up at the top and playing pretty well at the moment.

Can't believe some people are still whinging about not spending the FA cup money. Whereas I'm not a big KC fan, he's doing the right thing in only adding the right types and players and characters to the squad. Theres no urgency to splash any cash now and the club are being sensible in their approach.
