I agree, but any sort of financial gift will be taken like a shot with little thought to the consequences when staring into the abyss? Let’s be honest, the decision making process at a lot of EFL clubs is appalling, so I don’t expect an attack of acumen and considered evaluation anytime soon?
Spot on Melly, the EFL will sell the family silver for one more game. The whole of football ownership is a vipers pit of unscrupulous c***s, half of them are laundering bent notes or fixing betting scams in the Far East, it makes KT look like a saint.

We didn’t release Oliver... keep up
Yeah I know - but we offered a 'contract' which was immediately refused. In my mind a technical 'release'. Take yr point but its a case of internet poor communication by me

He chugged off with a contract offer sticking out of his sky rocket then got mugged by a fat dental flosser in Kent.

Think you find it was as Gillingham were pretty quick to make an offer. But its pure semantics as we did not make serious offer to keep him. The same type of scenario may apply to Turnbull. Perhaps you are forgetting his agents role in the affair?

It was weeks before Oliver refused our offer during which time his agents assured us that he would resign. Then Gillingham made him an apparently fantastic offer, whether it was so good in terms of money or length of contract none of us know.

We probably only offered Oliver a new 1 year contract to see if he could cut it in div 1 and he was swayed by Gillingham being prepared to give him a longer deal.

So the writing was not on the wall then? If KC is a cute manager and he appears to be one, then offering a sub standard offer which was not improved must have meant curtains . Poor Oliver must have been acutely disappointed. That big absence of delay hid the motives of player and agent.

We are all guessing about this or any other contract offer, if it was for a one year deal I think that was probably the right offer to make. If Gillingham offered a longer term then good luck to him.

The Prem deal is certainly not a case of saving any club from drowning. It is more of a case of letting them up for air for a second or two. In the long term, it will lead to the decimation of upper and lower league football.

From Curle's latest interview it sounds like Smith has a member of his family who is unwell so his head isn't in the right place at the moment. Let's hope it isn't too serious and they are feeling better soon.

Haha. Give him compassionate leave then and play someone whose head is. Don't we have about ten forwards to choose from?

Smith was way down the pecking order last season. Suddenly, in a league above he has become numero big fat uno. All is not well.

Best wishes for Smudger and family.

I think everyone is forgetting that Smith had a good first couple of games this season, but the majority of our striking force still have perennial knocks and none are 100% fit (Rose may almost be now), so he's sort of been forced into it.
Anyway, best wishes to his family.
