We have a game at the DW tomorrow......

Wigan are in a poor run of form and beset by injuries. Both teams have the same 2-1-6 record in the league.

Overall we only have 5 wins over them in 35 previous games, have lost our last 7 games home and away against them, and have lost on our last six visits to Wigan, our last victory in Wigan was on the last day of the 1995/96 season, but that was at Springfield Park......suffice to say the DW is not a happy hunting ground....four defeats out of four.

Five defeats in their last 6 league games, the only exception was a 1-1 draw at home to Plymouth. They have been beaten by Port Vale, Charlton, Crewe, Boro and MK in that run, scoring 2 goals but shipping 11.

Their two league wins came in consecutive games away at Portsmouth and home against Doncaster.

Josh Smith is the man in the middle, a second year EFL ref, has reffed in the Championship this season, and his most recent game was Huddersfield v Preston last weekend where he dished out 8 yellow cards and one red. His only Cobblers game was the EFL Trophy defeat to Peterborough at the start of last season.

Anyone want to hazard a guess at the team/formation for this one....? Cian Bolger and Ryan Watson are both one yellow away from a ban.

AS GPC says Wigan have a similar record as us and after registering 2 wins against good opposition their form has fallen off a cliff. In the 5 league games since they only have 1 point and also have only scored 1 goal while conceding 8. Only Wigan and Shrewsbury have scored fewer goals than ourselves and though our overall record against them is poor this game must represent us with the chance to come away with a positive result.

Another 6 pointer and we’re still not into November yet! I can see Keith playing just one up front for this one - the question is, who? Smith, Rose or Chukka? We need plenty of bodies in midfield to help out the leaky, lacking in confidence defence!

If we nullify them 1-0.
If we impose our game on them 3-1 Rose.

Only if the players have 'bought into his philosophy'...which I think is erm, nullify the opposition by punting downfield to the End Zone for a field goal! 🏈🤭

Stopping Wigan from making the playoffs with a 2-1 win at Springfield Park around 93 time, must rank as one of the dodgiest away days ever!
Before, walking into a pub with around a 100 or so Wigan lads...after, the gauntlet back to Wigan Wallgate station!  Shocked

That victory that I alluded to in the opening post was the game where we prevented them from making the playoffs....a win would have seen them in but the defeat meant a 10th place finish....they won the title the following season.

Yes, I said 93 but 96 think nearer the mark!
The following season at Sixfields saw the tables turned off the field...and a win on the pitch under a rainbow 🌈

When was the last time we beat a team managed by Sheridan? I'm pretty sure his teams always beat us!
