1.  We need to win both games.
2.  Then we need the other results to be in our favour.

Although always hopeful, I can't see us fulfilling the first part therefore the second part becomes redundant.

Rochdale rank outsiders at 100-1
AFC Wimbledon 66-1
Accrington 50-1
Cobblers 40-1
Swindon, Shrewsbury, Plymouth, Gillingham, Burton and MK all at 33-1

Sunderland favourites 7-1
Peterborough and Portsmouth 10-1

Not sure if there are any other records of the pre-season odds...  Cool

Do we want a draw or a win for either tonight?
Or doesn't it really matter because we still have to fulfil our part of our escape plan?

I’d say it’s preferable if Wimbledon win as they only really need 1 point from 3 games to make it too much of an ask to catch them (due to goal difference).

Imagine how much of a sh1tter it would be if we overtake Wigan only for Rochdale to win all their remaining games and we stay in the relegation zone?  Cry  Grin

A mass brawl at some point in the game with both side's best players sent off with straight reds.

0-0

Both clubs reported to the football league for fielding ineligible players.

The French National Anthem to be played before the game like it was at the 1st night of the proms a few years back after a terrorist atrocity in France.

On reflection a 1-0 win to Rochdale to keep Wimbledon in our sights if they lose their two final tough games. Their goal difference is a tough ask for us to catch up with if we finish on the same points. I'm relying on MK Dons to beat Rochdale.

I'll go for a Wimbledon win. They are then safe, Dale back in the mire... leaving the small but simple matter of Wigan having their most difficult and (in theory) easiest games, losing and drawing. The Cobblers win at home to Blackpool, before pulling off a Shrewsburyesque miracle, win at Sunderland!

Sunderland hopefully resting players for the play offs

1-0 Rochdale

I would take a wimbledon win though.

I wouldn't. If Wimbledon lose they're still catchable and have 2 difficult games left. We have to win both games anyway and if Rochdale lose 1 of their last 2 and Wigan lose or lose and draw we stay up. Easy.

Unfortunately Rochdale have got Doncaster on Saturday and they seem to have downed tools.  It’s all moot anyway.

Wimbledon 3 v 3 Rochdale

Realistically, we're now up against Rochdale and Wigan to avoid relegation.

I’d say realistically the bottom 4 won’t change now. Dale must be gutted with an AFC equaliser 7 mins into stoppage time, effectively putting them down with us.

So, is Saturday the day when its all sorted out?

Bristol Rovers are down, Swindon are down...but in theory two from four can still join them in League 2 next season.

The equations are pretty clear, if Wimbledon pick up another point they are safe regardless of anyone else. They are at home to Portsmouth. If Wigan win on Saturday they are safe, but they are away at promoted Hull. If both Wimbledon and Wigan do the business then it doesn't matter what we or Rochdale do, we're both down!

However....if neither of those two get what they need then The Cobblers need to avoid defeat. A draw on Saturday means they could still catch Wigan assuming Wigan lose to Hull. If we only draw and Wigan don't lose then we are down.
If we win and Wigan lose or draw it goes to the last day and a draw at Sunderland might be enough, assuming Wigan don't beat Swindon! We have a three goal deficit to make up on them.

The fly in the ointment is now Rochdale who have overhauled us, so if they match or better our results then we have a problem! Currently ahead of us on goal difference, they are four goals better off, or five if you count the fact they have scored lots more than us. Dale have a home game against a Doncaster side who have imploded of late and are unlikely to make the playoffs after looking certs at one point.

AFC WIMBLEDON  v  Portsmouth
Hull City  v  WIGAN ATHLETIC
NORTHAMPTON TOWN  v  Blackpool
ROCHDALE  v  Doncaster Rovers

Blackpool looked one of the best sides we have played earlier in the season as I commented at the time.
I really can’t see us winning but hoping for the best.
