So, time to close the thread, the deal is done!

Goodbye to League 1 from Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town, Northampton Town and Rochdale....well done Wigan, Wimbledon and of course Burton, who were transformed under JFH and currently sit 13 points outside the relegation zone, hard to believe that on New Years day they'd played 21 games with just 2 wins and were 6 points from safety. Won 13, drawn 5 and lost 6 since then.....

Some managers just work magic with certain clubs, don't they. What a mystery.

Nothing to do with signing a completely new team then ?  Smiley

Well, he did that with us as well with Crooks, Van Veen and Turnbull. Just contrasting how completely and utterly awful his time was with us, compared to how well it works in Burton. Much like Gary Johnson, amazing jobs are certain clubs, absolutely catastrophe here!

Hasselbaink has basically relegated us from League 1 on two different occasions now, once from being god awful, once from being fantastic.

JFH was the worst manager we have had since Wilder left, and worse than some of those before Wilder's time.

Pissed me off massively when JFH was on TV last week saying how proud he was that he didn’t have a relegation on his mgmt CV!! Delusional or what??

Southend and Grimsby have launched an appeal against their relegation from the EFL saying that no teams should be promoted from the National League this season as they are not relegating any clubs due to the north and south sections of the league not completing their seasons.
In the unlikely event that their appeal is successful then how can any team be promoted from Division 2 as the same scenario applies and they would not be relegating any teams?, hence we would be saved. This would then have a knock on effect throughout the EFL rendering the whole season as pointless exercise.

Surely the EFL and the National League have a reciprocal agreement in place whereby the EFL accept 2 National League promotions into League 2 and the National League take 2 teams relegated from League 2 .... with relegation, or non-relegation, from the National League being considered a totally separate matter?

So the magic points total to stay up was 48. We were just 3 shy. Those defeats to those around us were costly.

Been saying it for a while and frankly so has every football finance expert, the odds are massively against some clubs making it through the summer? It’s possible that we may not be down yet, and I would apply that scenario to every relegated club outside the Prem? TBH I still think it’s a travesty that we put up a prudent budget and got relegated whilst other clubs behaved so irresponsibly on that score and got chucked a lifeline by the bailout? Where’s the justice in that?

As a secondary note players like Lloyd Jones need to be exceptionally careful about turning down an offer because there are probably going to be a number of additional players looking for a contract this summer? It may be the only worthwhile offer they get?

If we had beaten Wigan at home we'd have stayed up with 48 points. That was KC's last game I think, so If we'd sacked him one game earlier we might have survived!

There were still plenty of points to be won - certainly enough to have kept us in League 1. Abject performances against the teams around us and a failure to pick up points on the road is the reason we are relegated. KC assembled a poor squad, but let's not re-write history. We haven't been good enough under Brady. Certainly we've been better on the eye, and often with more cohesive performances... but also some absolutely shocking performances too.

i think we went up by benefiting from Covid and we went down because we were over cautious in Covid .
It’s swings and roundabouts .
We weren’t good enough to go up and we were not good enough to stay up .
Any forlorn hope of appeals and clubs going bust is quite honestly embarrassing .

I think the team that won promotion was good enough to go up when playing to it's full potential, as in the play offs.
The problem was we needed to keep the best players and add more league 1 quality to the squad.
Instead all the best players left and were replaced with others who were just not up to the job.

Yes, 'good housekeeping' was frequently quoted at the beginning of this season as being our saviour and many expected that we would only have to survive to stay up. Look how that worked out.
