Ex Cobblers Player/Manager has been awarded the MBE in the New Years Honours List. I remember writing about him in my Cobblers scrapbook but never actually saw him play.

Awarded for being one of the 1966 World Cup winning squad, long overdue but fully justified. Congratulations and well done...

Think that accolade must go to Cliff Holton. Saw players out for the count having been hit by the ball from his shots.

I would think John Buchanan would also be worth a mention.

Definitely Cliff Holton. Wasn't he once reckoned to have the 2nd hardest shot in football, after Ted Phillips and before Bobby Charlton? You just knew he would score when running on to the ball about 40 yards out. Our goalies used to hate the warm up.

Me too! My father told me that Flowers could hit the ball harder than Cliff Holton which is some going!
