The main thing i remember from marking out pitches in the past is that it cannot be square.

At a 120yds x 75yds, the County Ground pitch was the longest in the league, and third largest in area overall.
Think Manchester City's Maine Road had the largest.
Conversely, The Shay, The Vetch and Upton Park had the smallest pitches.

This goes some way to explaining why the Spion Kop didn't always look so grand, viewed from the Hotel End. It was in fact, larger than even the Holte End at Villa or South Bank at Wolves!  Wink

I’m not having that CJ? When football was first invented back in the day and they put together the rules such as number of players, handball, VAR etc you would have thought it was first on the list? In those days there was probably a cow shed and that was about it, so it can’t be that surely?
Ha, we used to change in a cow shed when playing for the village side as a junior. Had to stoop to get into it though so cows must have grown over the years? I wasnt a tall kid.

I had no idea the parameters were that broad.
