Second time of asking? After we made an abortive trip to Blackpool a couple of weeks ago the Seasiders look to try again and get the game on against The Cobblers. Of course this is the third Tuesday in a row that we've travelled to the Fylde coast, after returning with a point from Fleetwood last week.

Blackpool sit in 15th place in the table although they do have as many as three games in hand over teams around them. 9 wins and 9 defeats along with four draws this season in the league. Only 9 of their 22 games have been played at home, the lowest in the league and they have five wins from those nine with three defeats also. Those three defeats came against Lincoln, Ipswich and Charlton and all three came in the month of October, so they are unbeaten at home since then, having said that they've not played a home league game since 15th December when they recorded a 3-2 win over Hull City. Covid issues and weather related problems have seen them play their last five league games all away from home, and last weeks 5-0 drubbing of Wigan was their only victory in that sequence.
The Seasiders had a decent FA Cup run, wins at Eastbourne and Harrogate saw them rewarded with a third round tie against Premier League West Brom which they won on penalties after a 2-2 draw. They couldn't repeat the feat in the fourth round though as they fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at Brighton.

Jerry Yates is their leading scorer with nine goals to his name, he is ably assisted by Gary Madine who has 8. Former Cobblers loanee Keshi Anderson is out for the rest of the season following surgery, they are missing influential midfielder CJ Hamilton through injury and Ben Woodburn has returned to Liverpool. A number of players were self isolating recently which meant a part-reserve team was fielded against Wigan, but those players are back in contention for Tuesday night. Former Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart has joined from Hull and Luke Garbutt is another with Premier League experience having played for Everton.

Only 35 games over the years between the two teams, our first meetings came in our "season in the sun" as we played in the top flight, but it was Blackpool who actually confirmed our relegation with a 3-0 win in April 1966. That same scoreline was repeated in the last meeting between the teams, back in April 2018. We have just two victories at Bloomfield Road, losing on 13 of our 17 visits there. Our last victory there came in 2002 when a pair of Marco Gabbiadini goals in a 2-1 win made sure we came home with the points. The other win came in 1983 in the Old Division 4.

James Oldham again has to made the decision whether the game goes ahead, he was the original ref for the fixture which was called off a couple of weeks ago. The forecast for the next couple of days is better though so we travel in more hope this time. Oldham has refereed 18 games this season, although none since January 3rd. He has handed out 46 yellow and two red cards. One of those reds was for Harrogates Kevin Lokko in Blackpools 4-0 FA Cup victory there, the last time he officiated us was for our 3-0 win at Grimsby last February.

Quote
Today:
Snow, at times heavy bringing accumulations inland and over high ground. Turning to rain at lower levels through the day, with the risk of freezing rain for a time, potentially bringing icy stretches. During afternoon turning milder with heavy showers. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:
During the evening and overnight heavy showers will continue north, potentially merging to longer spells of rain and hill snow. Gradually turning drier in the south. Windy. Minimum temperature -1 °C.
So when do we think the rearranged rearranged rearranged game will be?

Blackpool have most of their convid isolating players available again. They have 5 clean sheets in their 9 home gains but have conceded 10 times in the other 4. They have scored 11 home goals but only on 3 occasions have they scored more than once. Keep it tight at the back and we can get something here.

COVID ?
As it's Blackpool, COVID is probably way down the list of viruses you're likely to contract there.

Hopefully McWilliams is only missing to give him a break after his long layoff.
