I doubt that offering said players new contracts a few weeks ago would have made any difference. Put yourself in the players position, either he is happy here and wants to stay which ever division we play in or he will not sign at that time because he wants to see if we get relegated, then he will leave if he wants to continue playing in division 1. In any case it makes no sense accepting the clubs first offer, better to wait until the season ends to see what other offers you get.

I just hope if we do offer contracts to any of the existing squad (just Macca, L Jones & Watson for me), they all come with a deadline, so we still have time to find a suitable replacements...thus avoiding the Oliver farce!

Maybe, maybe not, but I guess there’s no harm in trying though. A couple of Stevenage players signed new contracts recently.

I think Scotty Pollock being out all season has been a massive blow, he showed glimpses at the tail end of last season that he was ready to kick on - I just hope his groin injury will be fully healed by pre season.  I wonder if Lloyd Jones’ mate who posts on here knows whether or not he is likely to stay on?  Ryan Watson is a difficult one - he has shown this season that he can be a quality attacking midfielder but also that he tends to go missing at other times, he’s already been around the block so would be interesting to see if a L1 team might come in for him or if he’s happy being a regular with us?

As the transfer window has slammed shut for another season lets take a look at who is under and out of contract for next season (please let me know if I've made any errors Tongue)

Under Contract:

Michael Harriman
Jack Sowerby
Fraser Horsfall
Sam Hoskins
Harry Smith
Benny Ashley-Seal
Joseph Mills
Danny Rose
Shaun McWilliams

Out of Contract:

Steve Arnold
Ryan Watson
Alex Jones
Scott Pollock
Morgan Roberts
Matt Warburton
Lloyd Jones
Ethan Johnston
Alan Sheehan
Mark Marshall

Looks like Brady will have the scope for a good clear out. Hopefully the retention of McWilliams, Sowerby and Horsfall will give us a decent spine.

The likes of Rose, Hoskins, Harriman and Mills have all been fairly successful at League Two level.

Ragdoll makes a very good point: if Watson and L. Jones are offered terms then it should definitely come with a clear deadline. I don't think it's too much of an exaggeration to state that the Oliver debacle ultimately ended up costing us our League One status.

Brady will probably need to sign another two centre backs whatever happens with Jones because Bolger and Sheehan will clearly be off.

Fairly successful seems very generous, even bang average league 2 players is probably a bit over the top.

There are three players with options for next season. They are Shaun McWilliams, Cian Bolger and Ricky Korboa.

McWilliams appears to be staying, Bolger will be going and it looks like Korboa will be as well. He wasn't even on the bench today.

I think Morgan Roberts will be offered a new contract, otherwise why have him on the bench today, and bring him on if he's going to be released in two days time?

You're letting your emotions about this season get the better of your judgement.

Hoskins and Harriman while both technically limited have both been promoted out of League 2 twice each.
Rose has had a number of seasons around the 10 goals or more mark in League 2. Not amazing but definitely "fairly successful".
Mills was FGR's top scorer last season iirc and racked up a lot of assists for them!

With the possible exception of BAS (who I still think has potential but isn't looking like he wants to fulfil it) I don't think I'd want to transfer list any of the players who are under contract. I think they'll all do a useful job at L2 level.

If you never played under the current manager but had the option of an extra year, would you take it? or hope for you get another contract somewhere else? - Bolger right now.

Right decisions, although can’t really comment on the academy guys.

Hopefully the majority of the strikers under contract will be transfer listed. Going into the summer with 5 strikers on the books, and a 6th invited back for pre season, none of which can hit a barn door isn’t overly encouraging.

"Cian Bolger has an option in his contract and the club are awaiting the player's decision."

WTF was KC doing offering a contract handing all the power to the PLAYER, rather than the CLUB, to have the option to trigger an extension?

We obviously don't want him, but if he triggers the extension, that's a decent L1 wage down the drain already  Angry

Has anything been mentioned regarding deadlines for the three who have been offered a new contract? The Oliver situation last summer was a bit ridiculous and I think it would be rather beneficial to avoid that type of situation again if possible.

Now we’ll see just how highly KC rates him - he can take him to Oldham if he likes. As alluded to above he’s obviously been told he won’t play under Brady but if he doesn’t get any offers he’ll take up the option rather than be unemployed.

Still under youth contract until 2022 I think

How much protection does that give us?

I think Chuks could have a big season for us next year. Brady clearly wants him to work on his pressing and work out of possession but if he can do that and adapt to the physical demands of League Two then he could cause some major damage.
