Lowest point of the season Saturday...After a thoroughly spineless 7-0 tonking!
KC wil as ever, set up not to lose, we'll concede early & they will run riot.
Still don't think KT will sack him!

Indeed, yet I'm now thinking I've been overly cautious, by predicting they'll only get 7!

I would not describe Accrington as "free scoring" just because they put 6 past Bristol Rovers as before that they were averaging about 1.3 goals per game. In their other 10 home games they have never scored more than 2. They do have an excellent defensive home record having only conceded 8 goals in 11 games with 4 of those conceded against Oxford way back in September, they have 6 home clean sheets. Since Accrington came back into the league we have done well there, in 7 games we have 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats scoring 16 goals and conceding 9, we have also scored in every game. Usually after a bad performance KC has managed to get a reaction in the next match and I expect no less this time. Accrington will be over confident after Tuesday and we will spring a surprise, keep the faith.

Indeed, yet I'm now thinking I've been overly cautious, by predicting they'll only get 7! As a matter of interest how long have you been predicting Cobblers results ? If your latest prediction comes off then Curles position becomes somewhat slippery! However following OAP's summary above I predict a 0-0 or even 0-1 win (or more) to the Cobbs. Unlike you I just cannot bring myself to suggest a loss . I assume all this is in jest; perhaps both our predictions will be wrong. We both can't be right . Are you a Bible thumper? Nothing wrong with that! ps Given the week end weather forecast and current state of Stanleys pitch it maybe off.......................hopefully!

So, full preview for this one?
Accrington currently sit in 7th place in League 1, level on point with 6th place Sunderland who occupy the last playoff place. Stanley do have games in hand on many teams around them, two on most above and three on the leaders. Crewe who sit in 9th on the same 40 point mark as Stanley have played five games more! Accrington have won 7 of their 11 homes games, drawing two and losing two, those defeats came against Oxford back in September and Gillingham just three weeks ago. Alongside Tuesday nights 6-1 win over Bristol Rovers they also have a 7-0 win over Leeds United U21's in the Papa Johns Trophy early in the season. They also have recorded a victory over Manchester United U21's in the same competition. Only 17 goals at home in the league, and 6 of those were in the last game, so they're hardly prolific overall, they have conceded just 8 at home though, second only to Hull (7) Top scorers for Stanley are Dion Charles who has 12 to his name, 11 of them in the league, and 5 in his last three games, he's followed by Colby Bishop who has 9. Midfielder Joe Pritchard has 8 to his name including one in each of the last two games. A former Cobbler is on their books, Mark Hughes who made over 100 appearances for us back in 2007-2009 has now made over 200 for Stanley, he is one of three ever presents in their team this year in the league, the others are Matt Butcher and the already mentioned Pritchard. All three of those have started every game.
The original Accrington Stanley collapsed in 1966, four years after they left the Football League, and the reformed version of today date from 1968, making their way back to the Football League in 2006. Due to this relatively short history, games between them and us are relatively few. Just 15 games between the sides, four wins for them, 3 draws and eight wins for us. At the amusingly named WHAM stadium there have been seven meetings and we have won four of those, losing two. We have had a 3-0 win there in 2009, a 4-2 win in 2012 (Bayo grabbed a hat-trick) and a 5-1 win there in January 2015 when we scored three times after going down to 10 men following Ryan Cresswells red card. That result followed a freak 4-5 defeat to them at Sixfields in the reverse fixture. Our last visit there was back in August 2015, the game ending in a 1-1 draw with Josh Windass equalising from the spot after Marc Richards had put us ahead. Sam Hoskins came on as a sub in that game for us. Matt Crooks started for Stanley that day too, whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin (whatever happened to him?) was an unused Cobblers sub.
Peter Wright from Merseyside has been appointed ref for the game, in 20 games this season he has handed down 60 yellow and 2 red cards. He did ref our league game against Mansfield last season during which he sent Sam Hoskins for an very early bath. We also had him for the 2-2 draw at Oldham earlier in the season, and the last time he handled a Stanley game he sent off one of their players too, Sean McConville seeing red in a 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood.

much depends on whether Sheehan is available and if Curle will then play MacWilliams in front with Morris . If Sheehan is not available and we play wing backs , we have no chance . So , in the grand scheme of things how have a tiny club like Accrington managed to establish themselves in League 1 and we struggle to even compete . Is it recruitment / management in the back office / manager’s ability / budget / structure ? They are doing something that we are not .

Everything points to us losing this one, and by a reasonable margin, as others have said above. Therefore I am going for Cobblers to win 3-1

It certainly isn’t budget.

Spot on. I think KC realises the huge bollock he dropped in not playing McWilliams at Blackpool so that will be rectified. I suspect Sheehan will be saved for the 6 pointers - which I totally agree with. As to the comparison question ... If you assume it’s not budget, then I’m afraid it has to be player procurement, player motivation and/or tactical expertise.
