RE the general topic of discussion, as a rule when it comes to football matters I think you’ll find that your head follows your heart? As a result your actions often won’t make a lot of sense to others? Upon going to bed at 4am on Sunday, mine didn’t to me either.

Not a real supporter but unelected chair of the Northampton Town Honorary Supporters Club. (Please note: any opinions given may not necessarily be shared by proper supporters. In incidents of conflict the views of real supporters shall take precedence).

I was born in Leamington Spa but moved to Northampton when I was about 7, for which obviously I had no choice. One Saturday my uncle from Leamington Spa came to see us on the day we played Coventry at home, as he was a Cov supporter and asked me if I would like to go to the game. This was either the late 50's or early 60's and we stood on the cricket side. I hadn't got a clue which team was which, I had never been to a football game before but I have a vague recollection the Cobblers won 4-0 which really must have made my uncle's day!

Since that day I have been a Cobblers fan and have never once given a monkeys's stuff about any other team, especially the prima donnas in the prem. I do wonder though if I had continued to live in Leamington Spa whether I would have been a Coventry fan, who were the nearest team.

My step son supports Man City, my stepdaughter and grandson Liverpool, and my son in law Cardiff. He is excused though as his Dad used to play for them in the 50's/60's until a certain Dennis Law broke his leg.

I do enjoy watching the Australian A League on BT as they offer something different and there are a number of British players out there, but I don't have a team, although I do have a sneaking admiration for Central Coast Mariners who are currently top. having finished bottom the last two seasons. Also if Joseph Mills reads this forum , if you are still in touch with your Perth Glory mates can you persuade Bruno Fornaroli to join us, his goal scoring record is phenomenal.

I was born in Wellingborough, and left Northamptonshire when Dad took a job in London to better the family's prospects. My heart has always stayed in Northamptonshire, even though I never returned to live there. I have followed the Cobblers for 60-odd years, and go when I can, away matches included, even though I live over 100 miles away from Sixfields. I have never 'followed' any premiership team, there is only the Cobblers for me, it's in the blood. Family rumour has it that one of my forebears, name of Thompson, was actually on the books of the Cobblers in the early part of the 20th century, although I have never been able to verify this.

Was trying to get into a pub near Siegen, unfortunately it was closed, as I was walking away some lads asked what I was doing, I told them about the pub being closed, they invited me to a BBQ they were having at a nearby house, top lads, all Munchengladbach fans.

Interesting comments but not sure everyone gets it. My major annoyance is Northamptonshireonians not supporting the only league team in Northamptonshire. Not really concerned about non league teams, admirable as it is, but don't think they really detract massively from our support. Not really concerned about any other team in the world as I don't think they massively detract from our support although I must admit I don't really get it. I totally get it if you lived for any long period in any of the places mentioned or have ancestral connections, why wouldn't you go if you were there for any length of time. I also completely get it if you moved away, came here when you were much younger and have family connections and support us. Also totally get people who live here, not from here who still support where they're from, why wouldn't they. As I said, my major annoyance is people from Northampton who have absolutely no connection, family or otherwise, but choose to shun their local team at the expense of a team they latched on to due to some success when they were kids and never grow out of it,like they grew out of Watch with mother, marbles, Crackerjack, Blue Peter, The charts, belief in Santa etc etc etc.

Surprised there were Gladbach down there, it's more FC Köln  territory.  Grin
Aside from Bayern, support is normally quite territorial in Germany.

That pretty much describes the whole of Bavaria apart from Munich itself.

When was I meant to grow out of these? How will I ever get my Blue Peter Badge now?

Right, this is going to be a long and rambling tirade of criticism and honesty so bear with me, I've had a few.
I think it's the return of TFAMH that's stoked my ire, especially when, as soon as KT is mentioned he's straIght
on it, then denies he's his number one fan. Nothing against you personally Hamster but you can't deny the club
and the development haven't really moved on since he got here despite all the promises. If anything we're in a worse position, further in debt and if/when we get relegated this season we could be staring oblivion in the face. If I'm wrong I'll be straight
on here to admit my negativity. Anyway on to my other massive annoyance, Northampton people not supporting the club
that represents the place they were born, live, work, where their children were born and ultimately where most will spend the
rest of their lives. Why devote your football supporting life to some other town or city 100 plus miles away or London, just
because they happened to be successful when you were growing up and developing your interest in football. Not picking on
Hamster again, and I apologise if you were born on the Kings Road, but if you're a similar age to me, I imagine your affinity
with Chelsea began with their FA cup win in 1970, just as many others began their "support" with other teams in similar
successful  periods. As I said, this is going to consist of criticism and honesty. I wasn't born in Northampton, but have lived
here since I was 2 years old. When I was at school, I thought I was a Man Utd fan, Best, Charlton, Law etc, like most, not all,
youngsters at the time, I was enamoured with the big names. Just like Evers, probably in the fifties, with Newcastls and Jackie Milburn, even though I was still going to the County Ground whenever  pocket money would allow. By the time I was 14 or fifteen, probably coinciding with our promotion as runners up to Lincoln, my total affinity to Cobblers was affirmed and despite being relegated immediately, there was no going back, I'd grown out of shallow affinity. That's why I just can't get grown men supporting
teams from distant horizons with which they have absolutely no connection apart from latching on to them when they had a bit of success when they were kids. As I've said previously, it doesn't happen in any other sport, or at any other level. How many English people support Brazil, Germany or Italy because they're more successful than England?

I love McLaren..... they're from Woking. Does that make me bad because I don't like Mercedes from Brackley, Northamptonshire?  Grin

I thought Mercedes were from Germany, anyway I've never heard of either of those football teams.

I have a story about McLaren, a few years ago I had quite a few meetings with these guys about sponsorship amongst other things and had the obligatory tour, there is a tunnel that joins the office corporate & F1 part to the road car assembly area, Ron Dennis is such a perfectionist that he had the ventilation pipes( that no one sees ) painted the same colour as the cladding on the tunnel, he had large areas of the production facility re tiled because some of the joints were 1mm bigger than others, finally he had the bezels taken off the MAC PC’s and sprayed the same colour as the floor tiles.....absolutely bonkers..... but a top guy.

Quite an unusual chap is Mr Dennis, likes all the fish to swim in the same direction in  his pond! Also made the builders who were doing work on his house put up scaffolding   so they could gain access through the window rather than using the doors, also had to remove said scaffolding before they went home every night.
