I thought it rather strange that a few travelled from Bristol to stand on the hill and see half a game when they could have watched the game at home at less cost.

The way the players celebrated the goal I imagine Barton told the players that fans had gone to that effort to motivate them.

You do have to question the mentality of these people, also where they stood they could only see the goal at the south end of the ground, if it had been me I would have watched through the gap between the West and North in the 1st half, to see the goal my team were attacking. Also a bit disappointed our local plod didn't arrest them for breaking the Covid travel rules !

Possibly local to the area?

You are allowed to travel.
"Under current UK COVID-19 restrictions, you must stay at home. You must not travel, including abroad, unless you have a legally permitted reason to do so. It is illegal to travel abroad for holidays and other leisure purposes". From www.gov.uk Some restrictions removed today, so you were NOT allowed to travel on Saturday.

The rules from 29th March were not too clear, but roughly they were:
The ‘Stay at Home’ order will be lifted and although the overall message is to ‘stay local’, no legally defined acceptable travel distance within England has been set at this stage. However, travel within England must be limited to day trips, as overnight stays are not permitted at this stage.
So they could travel.
