Tick tock, tick tock, time is running out.....

League game 43 sees us take on Ipswich Town at home on Tuesday night. Former FA Cup winners Ipswich are on a poor run, just one win in their last eight games, yet they are 9th and only four points outside the playoff places with a game in hand over 6th placed Oxford.

Paul Cook took up the reigns following the sacking of Paul Lambert, but has only guided his team to two wins in his 11 games in charge. Four of their last six games have ended goalless, indeed they have only scored in one of their last six games. Away from home they have only won six games, with eight defeats and only two teams (Bristol Rovers and us) have scored fewer than their 19 goal haul.

James Norwood is their leading scorer with just 6 league goals, Gwion Edwards has 5 to his name. Former Cobbler Luke Chambers had started 38 of 40 games prior to Saturdays goalless draw with Charlton but found himself dropped to the bench for that game.

27 previous league meetings between the sides, and we have won 10 to their 9, this wil be the first league meeting in Northampton since 1967, although they have visited the town for League Cup games this will be the first competitive game at Sixfields. The most recent game in Northampton came at the County Ground when League Cup Replays were still a thing.....a 4-2 win for the Blues after a 1-1 draw. I was at both games and seem to remember one Glenville Donegal scoring for us in the home defeat.
Earlier this season the meeting between the two teams ended goalless (surprise surprise) and will be remember most for Darren Drysdales outburst towards Ipswich player Alan Judge. That same player would appear to have made his last appearance for Ipswich as under the terms of his current contract a further game will trigger an automatic renewal clause, something the club apparently don't wish to do!

Hoping for a quieter game this time will be referee James Bell from Sheffield. Bell is a first year EFL ref with 76 yellow and 8 red cards in his 27 games this season. This will be his first time officiating either side.

+1
A Sammy first half pen preceding a back to the walls 2nd half defensive performance with Mitch pulling off a couple of Gordon Banks type saves to give us a wee respite and that thing that ultimately hurts the most .... hope!

We have not scored a goal in open play in our last 3 games. Ipswich have not scored any goals in their last 4 games (0-3 defeat at Wimbledon and 3 0-0 draws) so it does not have the makings of a goal fest.
Alan Judge who involved in the spat with Drysdale will not be playing as Cook says he won't be picked again this season. This is because if makes 1 more appearance it triggers the option of him having his contract extended for another season and Cook obviously does not want him.

Gravel voice Cook; "That stompy little s**t isn't playing another game for us Tractor Boys"

Stompy Little Judge: "Well, knock me down with a feather...but in the box please!"

Is this a must-win game?

As you will get 1/20 on us now remaining in the relegation places, the term 'must win' probably isn't that relevant anymore.
Maybe it should be called a 'must win double' tomorrow and away at the Gills, which would create a bit of renewed excitement.
It's probably more likely that we can start our summer break after 5pm on Saturday.

The quietest pre-match thread for some time. It's safe to assume that the reality of our situation has probably sunk in.
JB using the term "must win" for the first time but also that it is out of our hands. There probably isn't an 'easier' game on paper to grab the 3 points.
Although it's probably too little too late, let's at least go down with a bit of a fight.

A win and some results to go for us could completely change things but realistically I think we would need to win the next 3.
