Must have been mentioned on here somewhere. “Ours” what a fantastic documentary, one of the recent great BT sport documentaries. Not sure if they are repeats. But “Ours” will resonate with all of us and certainly a lesson in why mobilisation not negotiation works at our level and in our circumstances.

Damming of “speculative “ chairman. Football is currently driven by greed, including ours.

Are you talking about clubs who overspend beyond their means in an attempt to get success?

ESL? Just read that Real Madrid are over £1bn in debt with no foreseeable possibility of retrieving it, even without the Pandemic, no wonder they were keen on the ESL!

It was an interesting watch but hugely romanticised and idealistic in its outlook.
The reality is that nearly all of the examples of fan ownership/control used are either an unmitigated disaster like Ebbsfleet or are scratching around in the lower echelons of the league pyramid like Lewes, Rushden or Hashtag Utd (not that they are properly fan owned anyway). It's early days for AFC Bury but it sounds like it's proving to be hugely divisive amongst the fans with a lot of ill-will and finger pointing going on.
Pompey got themselves out of a hole via fan ownership but then sold to Michael Eisner so they could push on. The only one that really stands out as a genuine success is AFC Wimbledon, who have done fantastically well to get from nowhere, back into the league and ultimately back to Plough Lane. It's fairy tale stuff, but I fear it is the exception rather than the rule.

The examples you use as "unmitigated disasters" are all relatively small clubs compared to NTFC, AFC Wimbledon and Exeter City are similar sized or a bit smaller than us and have been relatively successful. What it does need is everyone pulling in the same direction, a bit like we all were in 2015/16. To a certain extent fan ownership does limit you, but you have to bear in mind that we haven't been in the top two divisions for 54 years, so we seem to limit ourselves whoever owns the club.

To be fair, I did say "of the examples used [in the film]" which didn't include Exeter and the only one I referred to as an unmitigated disaster was Ebbsfleet.

Very true, you did. But I still think that we could maintain our "usual" top League 2 / Bottom League 1 status as a fan owned club, like I say AFC Wimbledon have managed it and we have a catchment area much, much bigger than them.

Yes, same problem for me. Maybe it'll be on Netflix or Amazon prime sometime.
