I don't blame Brady for Mitchell's howlers. Arnold is equally poor and his back injury has forced Brady's hand in terms of selection. As a manager you just cannot legislate for that kind of individual incompetence. Curle's recruitment is the primary reason for our relegation, and we have to remember that.

However, Brady's substitutions smacked of a worrying Dean-Austenesque tactical naivety today. Two things that both Curle and Brady have repeatedly failed to understand this season:

1. You cannot score if you do not have possession of the football. Taking McWilliams off meant that Blackpool started to completely dominate midfield possession. Taking Morris off would have been a much better choice, but I think Brady kept him on out of a misguided sense that he would be more 'creative'.

2. You cannot score if your crossing and creative-decision is terrible and you leave your best assist-maker on the bench until the 75th minute.   Hamstring or no hamstring, Marshall should have been on way sooner today as he is our best and often only chance of an assist. As widemen, Miller and Hoskins have no creative end product and their decision making is poor.

All the talk about strikers this season has been largely missing the point IMO. Curle and Brady's constant throwing on of extra strikers has just been shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic. The fundamental issue is the creative supply line and neither of them have done enough to address it. Strikers who can create chances for themselves with zero service are as rare as rocking **** at this level. Chuks is the nearest we've got to someone in this category and he should have been given more minutes than Edmondson and Rose today.

Having said all that, I'm not one for throwing the baby out with the bath water. IMO Brady has done just about enough to emerge as a credible candidate to take us forward. Overall, the style of play has improved, he's improved players like Watson and Horsfall and the results against the likes of Portsmouth, Ipswich and Oxford suggest that he can make an impact at this level. I'd like to see what he can achieve with a full transfer window and a fully fit squad. I just hope he learns from his mistakes in games like this. Time will tell whether he's given the 'assurances' which he needs to take us forward.
