Bit late reading the news but just read of Max Griggs passing.

I can't help wondering what might have been if certain individuals had not behaved in a certain way and other directors hadn't expected it always to be Max dipping into his pockets (which at that time were nowhere big as they became)

Whilst we all have thoughts on the R&D rise and fall Max was following his dream and still supported local football in Northampton even in those days.

A true football man RIP.

Another one “that might have been”!
Stephen Griggs is still worth £264 million (as if 2019) so maybe not too late to make KT an offer he can’t refuse??

Not sure of this but, wasn't he royally stitched up by other members of the board at the time which resulted in hia m walking away and setting the diremoans up.

My (limited) recollection is that he wanted full control but never managed to get it so went alone, could well be incorrect.
Met him a couple of times at DM employee functions. Very polite, warm, approachable and would talk on a level with any employee, his son Stephen wasn't as natural around people but that was many years ago. He certainly had more £ available than anyone connected to the club since, although it didn't end well for his subsequent footballing project. Another case of 'we'll never know'.

Yeah and in 2003 he ditched his employees and moved production to China where all power is controlled by a few despots who pretend to be representative of the wider population but in fact worship self-interest which, ironically, is the watchword of the english tory cretins.

For once I sort of agree. As much as I respect the fact the guy has passed away. There is some real romantic nonsense around his involvement with NTFC.

Close to bankruptcy and on its knees my understanding was the decision was taken as a last ditch attempt to save the business. A small number of the workforce was retained and production has slowly been ramped back up again in Wollaston with a pre Covid announcement to double production in the UK in 2020. A tough decision that seemingly saved the business and has led to significant employment once again. Alternatively they could have just gone down the toilet? Another clueless bout of poison spitting from Soggy. Head up, keep going.

Before people are too critical, this guy spent 20 million on The Diamonds and handed the lot over to the supporters for free at the same time as losing £100 million in 3 years. The message to KT being don’t sell the club for a pound because you’ll get hammered by some cretin regardless.

You really think you are billy big boots (ha ha) don't you? You ain't got a clue what you are talking about. The business was sold when the going got tough and it was bailed out by a private equity firm who have spouted typical projections of intent with nothing concrete to show other than a drop in product quality and sales. Meanwhile Solovair, still running from Wollaston, and the original suppliers of the sole incorporated in Dr Martens have taken advantage and whilst still small compared to the behemoth that was Griggs have retained integrity as well as a thriving local enterprise. I have been to the Griggs premises in Wollaston on many occasions and there is no sign of any 'doubling of production' there. You quite obviously regret your exile to Oz as a result of your greed and fear when you obviously retain a yearning for your old life but your loss is our gain, that is written in the sand.

As a side note as Max Griggs passed away less than 2 weeks ago my view is that out of respect any spiteful comments could have been left for a more appropriate time? However, rather hypocritically it appears when Soggy is once again unable to help oneself and as a result is subjected to that same spite, one seems rather put out? On the other hand, in the event Soggy really is my missus, sorry love.

For the record it appears one is still being outclassed by the proverbial chimp. Head up and soldier on Soggy.

SoG appears to have ongoing issues with people who have recently died.
Maybe he's worried that he may be getting too near to the front of the queue...  Wink

I imagine his many visits to the premises were due to his paper round, so I would think he has years left yet?

I had a recent short conversation with admin about how quickly a thread goes south - I started this one about a man who had given a great deal to sport in the county - not an analysis of his business practices and whilst I can’t turn back time but I wonder if Max had stayed at the Cobblers, invested all that R&D money to make us successful would anyone be questioning his business practice? Interesting because I’ve not heard any negative comments about Derek Banks who earned his fortune via a health ruining industry ( and that’s not a pop at him, being a thoroughly nice guy who still follows the cobblers from afar)

Perhaps you shouldn’t start certain threads that you know will be contentious?
Your BLM taking the knee love fest was a prime example, your much better posting that on a leftist moaning site where likeminded people can discuss how the rich have destroyed the social fabric of society and Corbyn will rise like the Phoenix to save people too poor to work.

If paying respects to Max Griggs is in your mind contentious then I think it says far more about you than it does me - and if you bothered to actually read my comments on taking the knee it was far from a love fest and in fact you might struggle to find any evidence to show I even actively support it - we all know your hatred of anything left of centre but you shouldn’t let your paranoia let you see things that actually aren’t there.
