i think this is work in progress . Defensively we are sound - the keeper is good and we always have 2 players in support out of possession within 6 yards . Look at the stripes on the pitch at home - they are distanced for a reason. Clearly we need to work on creativity but we have built a base that is sound . Sowerby now has to keep his place and it’s a case of building on this start . We need to commit more men forward and i think we will see a side develop .
Agree with this. Most new coaches building a side are looking for organisation and solidity first then flair and attack coming later. I think Brady also recognised that it was important to get some results under your belt as well to relieve any early pressure. See Dean Austins reign for what can happen when all the above doesn't happen. I totally get what Bungle is saying about the 442 as I'm still struggling to get my head round it from a coaching perspective. However Brady is known as a progressive, modern, attack minded coach so I'm happy to be patient and I'm certain he has good reason for deciding to go down this route. I look forward to hearing his thought process later in the season where he can maybe give way some of his tactical thoughts. Finally agree with Manwork about the defensive injuries. When Guthrie got injured you do realise how thin the other options are. Let's hope we have some irons in the fire if the young lads aren't ready yet.

Nice to hear some positivity coming from you miserable fuckers.
The new management "team" have been together the blink of an eye yet they've managed to make us solid, no more 90 minute capitulations. I'm sure now they have a platform they can work from the creativity and end product can be developed.
Whats most important this time is if they get us out of this terrible league, they'll all be here next season. How refreshing.

Things clearly aren't firing on all cylinders yet and we can question the team selection, formation, substitutions and game management as much as we like, but the fact is after 7 games we already have almost a third as many points as we had after 46 games last year, so the Brady Bunch are getting something right!

This.... We're not playing "great" and are third. If and when we do start firing going forward, there'll be a lot more to like. For now, be grateful that this season may not end up being the struggle a lot thought it would be....

Obviously I'm happy at our points tally so far and of course the defensive qualities of the team, together with a good goalkeeper. I can also accept that we're building from the base of a solid defence, but most of the time we're still pretty poor to watch.
No visible progress is being made in our forward play and we should be seeing progress in this area by now. Newport were either a poor side or we made them look poor, but nearly all our forward play (in the second half at least) was rushed and borderline panicky, either first time hopeful balls into "areas" or aimless flick-ons, in both cases gifting possession back to Newport. We need someone to stand on the ball and pick a pass, or take on a player in midfield to create openings. Then when we get balls into the box we hardly ever have players in the right place or even close to it. We have clear potential counter attacks, which come to nothing due to poor control/passing and/or decision-making. In fact there's virtually nothing positive to say about our forward play at the moment, with the possible exception of Koiki, who makes penetrating runs from time to time.
It's no good talking about "gelling" or that it will "come good" because these things don't happen on their own, but only if the coaching staff change the way we play going forward. I'm concerned we're going to be stuck with this effective, but very drab, style of CC football for the rest of the season. I find it hard to be upbeat about the result yesterday, because we were so poor going forward.
I'll still be watching regardless, of course, but just hope for something a bit more exciting, otherwise it will fee like a long season, wherever we end up.

That's better lads keep it up, Madrid slipping a bit there after a positive start. Just remember the words of the late, great Bruce Forsyth, "What do points make? This is league two, if you're after a "performance" maybe try the ballet?

I generally feel that most teams in this league will struggle for quality squad depth every area on the park. Plus all teams in all leagues all round the world have that player or two that you cant replace if they get injured, it looks obvious Guthers is one of ours.

On a lighter note this result shows how big the north-south divide is. Newport 0 Southampton 8 Newport 0 Northampton 1
As others have said we are 3rd without yet clicking as an attacking force where there is clearly work to be done. It will be interesting to see if Brady sticks with Kabamba on saturday or brings back Etete who did well when he came on. Also hopefully Sowerby will be ok as he was not moving well when subbed.

Spot on, agree Kabamba and Etete are our best strikers.

You are quite right Evers, he might. Furthermore Harriman at this level does.

the pitch is purposefully cut to help the players distance from each other when in and out of possession. i think the lines are every 6 yards but may be corrected on that . In theory there are always 2 players in support of the player attacking the ball within that distance . This has been the case and is one reason why we are so solid .

Jeez. Paint by numbers football. These stripes that are evident from the West will not be quite so when down on the playing surface, right?

I hate to think what tactics Leicester have been using their pitch for in that case.

Reckon you've been spun the yarn by the same geezer down the pub who convinced me Roy Orbison wore a wig and in fact was an albino...hence the shades! *Our away record is better than our home!

I've never heard so much rubbish The pitch is cut the same as any other season from where I sit in the West stand. No different to when Keith was manager. Unless you've got photographic evidence Boot & Shoe?
