Interesting to read a number of comments on one of the Villa forums about how Caleb's workrate was exceptional. He played 84 mins versus Wycombe last night and, apparently, caused them no end of problems.
Suspect his seemingly poor workrate with us was therefore down to attitude?
What poor work rate?

My first ever venture to FGR as a family commitment prevents me from going to the upcoming league game. We looked very fragile early on, and I had a horrible feeling that we might end up on the end of a stuffing when they did eventually score. However, we gradually improved especially at the back as Hoskins and Flores got a grip on some very nippy wing men. We created little up front in the first half admittedly but due to our defensive improvement during that 45 mins I felt we could still get something out of the game. This proved correct as we improved considerably in the second half. Perhaps fortunate however not to go further behind in the first minute of the second half and it look a very marginal offside decision. Then a lovely piece of play from Connolly and a fabulous cross from Hoskins was headed in by Pollock. I’m not sure apart from that what he really brought to the game but arguably a goal is a good enough contribution. I thought Sowerby and Flores who got 60 and 65 mins accordingly were excellent and that is promising for the future. We still seem very light weight up front however and this remains my concern for the season ahead. A special mention to Maxted who I though had a really good game between the sticks making some excellent saves especially in the late FGR onslaught and saved two penalties in the shoot-out. I won’t mention McWilliams spot kick too much, but the ball must be still bouncing down the road towards Gloucester! Overall, an evening we can be reasonably pleased with. Just as a final aside, I was not so keen on the well-publicised burgers – sorry!

I was told, a few years ago, that this competition is good, financially, for the club.
GPC must be bored providing the proof for that but every year it comes up.

The sooner the final of this tournament contains 2 U21 sides the better cos then it will be dead in the water and it can have a well-deserved burial twixt sod and turd.
The supporter base of the two U21 clubs would get right behind their team and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they sold out Wembley.

Gareth Wilsher said much the same thing on Radio Numpty last night during commentary.

Good write up Pericles; also a ‘thank you’ nod to Horsham1 for his updates. Seems that Horsham1 has been to all 6 games this season. The cost alone would trouble me!

I understand part of that is to do with PL teams getting their U21s involved.

£20,000 just for taking part, £10,000 for a group game win, £5,000 for a draw.
£20,000 for winning in the first knockout round, £40,000 for winning the next round then £50,000 per win Q/F, S/F and runner up, with £100k to the winner.

Yep Horsham Cobbler in attendance aside from FGR, and 4 friendlies. Will be missing this Sat as on hols but aim to drop into FGR for League game via a detour on way back from Devon. Couldn’t summon the willpower to go to the PJ Trophy game

I heard that the costs to get to and play at FGR were £5001! If not I look pretty stupid for my earlier post Genuinely didnt realise that so thanks for letting me know. Still think it should be scrapped though and more emphasis put on the League Cup.

Bribery from the Premier League just to get their kids in. Was chuffed at the miniscule away following. As ever while the Under 21s are in, will be happy when we’re out of this.
No, I still won’t go to a final before you ask.

Not sure what difference scrapping it would have on the league cup, top teams would still play their youth teams or a mixture of youth and reserves, lower league clubs would probably still play weakened teams to look at fringe players. Clubs that have won nothing in ages like spurs still don’t give a sh1t about it.

They must be on hell of an appearance related bonus !! Coach would cost £500 - £600 at the most I would have thought.

My point exactly. I might buy a coach and provide travel to the club for £4999 and I’ll even through in some Pot Noodles for the journey

Bad Boys are a given, maybe even some Flamin Hot Monster Munch. £4999 x 20+ games a season. A few years. Bingo

And you will need a mortgage for the coach.
Not as much as you think. I bought a 1981 Leyland Leopard (56 seats) for £1500. Fitted it out, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen 3 piece suite etc. You could buy a perfectly serviceable modern coach with full MOT, passenger ready, and turn it into a private high spec coach with bunks, shower. toilet kitchen and VIP seating, the prefect team bus for £30k. Not sure how much wraps or resprays are though as I hand painted mine. Evers would be the man for this? Instead of taking over the club/world maybe a few Hotelenders in the motor trade could purchase a coach, pimp it Northampton Town FC and provide the club with free transport. A more manageable project first, then see how it goes!! It could be parked at the stadium and used out of season for Hotel End jollies. You've no idea how much fun you can have with your own bus until you've owned one! Fancy a Volvo to start? https://www.coachandbusmarket.com/vehicles/2003-03-volvo-b12b-van-hool-t9-alizee/
