We’ve heard JB talking about chunking the season into smaller parts to give more manageable objectives for the team to aim at - great idea when you’re faced with a 9 month long season.
And then after playing another first class game, Sean mentioned in a Numpty interview yesterday that they were chunking into 5 games.
So what do you think should be their target for the next 5. Without wishing to over state it, I think these next 5 will define our season. Do well and we’re going to be competing for promotion in April. Do badly and it may just turn into a mediocre season.
UTC
Bristol Rovers (A)
Bradford City (A)
Oldham (H)
Orient (H)
Exeter (A)

I’m going for a draw heavy 6 points L,D,W,D,D
Which I think will see us drop out the top 3 but stay in contention.
My slight pessimism is based on the awful nature of 3 of the last 4 teams we have beaten.
What do you think - you think I’m being too gloomy? Do you think JB will be targeting a lot more?

I think if they are breaking the season into 5 match chunks that we still have 3 matches to play to complete the batch we are in to take us up to 20 games played. I also think you are being too pessimistic and we will get more than the 6 points you predict from those 5 games.

Correction - sorry ignore the first part of the previous message I somehow thought we had played 17 games and not 15. I think we would be aiming for 8 points from the next 5 games.

We've played 19 with the 20th being Brighton on Tuesday.

I would have thought the 5 game chunks were just league games.

Our aim now should be top3. We've seen enough of this league, our own team/squad, and our opponents.

We should be targeting at least 10 points from the next 5 games, on the back of 12 points from the last 5 games (15 if all things had been even).

Have some faith!

I am so sorry … I thought that was a simple question but hey, you live and learn:
The title says EFL games and JB talks about chunking the League games so yes, we are talking league games only.
My 6 point figure was my expectation not my target. I would expect JB to be targeting at least 11 points but realistically I think we’re only going to get 6. What we get is more interesting than the target.
Hopefully that’s cleared it up.

Sadly it's disappointing manager babble that means nothing.
For example, when McGowan is bombing down the wing looking to see who is available to cross to, do you think it crosses his mind which of the chunk of games it is?

I would disagree. Focus, confidence and togetherness means a lot at this level. It is why we are often left looking up the table after a summer of mass recruitment, wondering why teams with a lower budget are doing better than us.

No, but it will motivate the players in game 3 in the first two haven't got to plan, and if they've won the first two it will motivate them to smash the monthly target. I wonder if they get a McDonalds if they hit their target! Hope its in the contracts

i think a lot depends on the fitness of Magowan .
He has been playing with an injury since the Sutton game at least .
It depends if he can come back in a week or if he needs longer rest .
We are exposed if he can’t play although i accept the Villa guy did well on saturday .
I think we will go from strength to strength and get 10 points from 5 games

11 points for me, out of these games.  Smiley

Again, I disagree - what this approach also achieves is stopping players getting ahead of themselves - we have just had a good chunk and players can have the tendency to be complacent - many times we have seen bad results against teams with bad form - equally if you have a bad run (and it will happen) you avoid a negative attitude that everything is going wrong and there is nothing you can do about it.

So that batch of 5 matches got us 10 points.
Bristol Rovers: 0
Bradford: 1
Oldham: 3
Orient: 3
Exeter: 3
I wonder how many JB expected?

Boot and Shoe wins the plaudits for his 10 point prediction. Well done B&S!
Well done The Cobbs!
