The problem I have with social media is that it follows the old mantra "if something is repeated enough it becomes the truth" and your average foil hatter on social media hasn't got the intelligence to work out what is the truth and what is not and what is humour. Uunfortunately these are the loud ones David Baddiel speaks of.
The other issue is people follow and generally accumulate around posters that have the same view as them therefore endorsing their views - I’m an unashamed slightly left of centre centralist with a medical/science background but follow social media from the more extreme left and right views on politics plus peer reviewed scientific postings along with faux science articles, which personally I believe enables a more balanced view and a better (but certainly not perfect) means to filter truth from bollocks
