Whether it’s harsh or not, Mills is definitely a weak link in this team in my opinion. He’s quite slow, positionally he isn’t great (although I accept this can be said of Koiki too) and he doesn’t seem to have the same attacking threat that he had when he was at Forest Green. He isn’t awful and to his credit you can never question his desire, I just think any half decent winger with good pace and dribbling causes him nightmares. He’s all we have until Koiki comes back though, so we just need to hope he sees this as his chance to give JB a headache when Koiki is fit again.

Very true and would add (imo) that defensively Mills is a little more secure than Kioki who I thought was hardly missed on Saturday. Talented as he is he is miscast as a left back; ok perhaps as a left wing back? For me better employed further upfield !
I think you're slowly starting to realise you're the only one repeatedly beating this drum...

Koiki's positioning is shìt, however he has the pace and workrate to get back and generally make up for his mistakes - which makes him all the more exciting to watch!!

His recovery rate is phenomenal! If he gets skinned or caught out of position, most times he will be back on the defenders case moments later. When the same thing happens to Mills...you know he isn't going to get back! Also; I don't buy into the argument that Kioki is better further forward or indeed as a wingback. His biggest asset (with the ball) is that sudden burst of pace, carrying it quickly out of defence from a deep position. When we were playing a back3, he always seemed to get stuck before or at the half way line when cover arrived. His best performances have always been when he's playing in a back4!

And I think this is why Mills has his work cut out being number one choice. Koiki’s positioning isn’t great but his recovery pace is a get out of jail card. It’s a bit like watching Kyle Walker……

The only one Even if I were the only one, its not a great issue but I get the impression that it is for you! Its all about opinions. Have seen many NTFC left backs and Mills is not the worst by a long shot! If JB is happy to play Mills at the back instead of Harriman etc ....well you have to go with the Manager. I also suspect you are at odds with JB as he does not heed your opinion ..Y/N ?

I was going to mention Paul Rogers, then I remembered Chris O'donnell. Case closed your Honour.

Ron Pattison, Brooks, Everett, the bloke who went to Gilligham* these are just a few of the relatively early ones. Most are equal in ability to Mills and Kioki. * The fifth columnist ‘Danny Jackman’.

I think that to say Mike Everitt, who played virtually every match in the 1st Division is of equal ability to Mills and Kioki, is a bit harsh on Mike Everitt.

Vic Cockroft.
Smalley Marston Mackin Claypole Clarkson Frain Spedding Crowe Jackman Maloney Tucker Fairfax Chard Mundee Hendon Holt The great Graham Reed Some useful full backs there perhaps Smalley who I never saw but those who did back in the early - mid 50’s said he was very good and a ferocious tackler! Was an English teacher at NSB! Some of these not so good but Mills about equal with Chard but far better than Reed!

Don’t disagree, either way a similar aged Mills may have been good enough to play in that side! Everett was a right footed left back converted from right wing!

Graham 'Rambo' Reed was a right-back. As was Ian Clarkson and Jason Crowe and Brendan Moloney and Ian Hendon. The original comment did say "full-backs" however,

We had a right back called Phil Neal but his career nosedived after he left us as he only went on to play for Liverpool and England. Others who have not been mentioned:- Tony Geidmintis Joe Bunney Paul Wilson Jason Burnham Lee Colkin John Johnson Aaron Phillips

I don't think you can include those 2 Deepcut, as we are talking of players who were signed as a full back or whose main position was full back otherwise Phil Neal could be classed as a goalkeeper. Shaun's brother Camron counts as he played a few games.
