RIP to our Queen.

An example to all who lead.

Indeed. RIP, ma'am.

The Queen didn't ask to be born into the life and role she had, but always carried out her duties seriously and was the best she could be. Can't expect or ask for more than that. RIP.

If Charles and William die as well and Harry takes the throne at least we would have a monarch with two English parents.

Ouch!

It was an outstanding spectacle, wasn't it? Pure pomp and pageantry that we do better than anyone else in the world.

On a related note, while it won't have been cheap, it was broadcast to a global audience and London and Windsor both looked amazing. It will bring in millions in tourist revenue. It even had me, a card carrying atheist, making a mental note to visit Westminster Abbey the next time I'm in London - what a stunning building!

Is she though, or is it just a massively out of touch 83 year old trying to make a cack-handed attempt to talk to someone she has little in common with?

Not excusing it, but I think it's more ignorance than racism.

Massively out of touch in the Royal household, surely not.

I have a foreign surname, but people don't ask me where "my people" come from. Is it because I is white?

When is a racist not a racist?

I don’t think she is a racist. But then I don’t know her.

This quite a good point, but people can be unwittingly racist. I am of an age where the local corner shop was often known as the P*** Shop, not through any malice and bearing in mind what the abbreviation was, incorrectly, as in Wellingborough, the chances were that the owners had come from East Africa of Indian heritage. Nowadays, I would be surprised if any of the people who used the term in the 1970s would use it today as it is undeniably racist.

But I am sure people can behave in a racist way even if they don't consider themselves racist. Institutions certainly can.

There's a very definite generational aspect at play here. An uncle of mine in his early eighties has neighbours of Asian descent. He likes them - they make him food, he helps them with the occasional DIY job in their garden. He still refers to them as "the p***s next door" though. He can't see what he's doing wrong. If you raise it with him he just looks bewildered and says "but they are p***s"

Been to the Abbey and passed in awe by Henry Vth Tomb, what a legacy he left.
