It's very sad for her close family of course and people who knew her, but the idea that the country stops working for a day for the death of a 96 year old great-grandmother, let alone two f***ing weeks of cancellations is completely insane.

I'd imagine there maybe a lack of security/ police, especially for the London teams. Therefore it maybe easier just to cancel the whole lot.

Would have thought fans coming together before, during and after games would bring a collective that the family and authorities might welcome. The back lash of cancelled train or football tickets as well as the general feeling of having freedom compromised would certainly have an adverse effect. Having said that, I'm not going to Walsall anyway. Had ironically enough, planned to pay my respects to the passed King Richard III in Leicester...before embarking on the fine hostelries of the city!

Some disrespectful fools on here . There is no question football should be cancelled on saturday and for the full period of mourning . It is a mark of respect for an extraordinary human being and leader .
Some people are royalists, some aren't. Just because they aren't, doesn't make them fools, maybe it's those that are. For the record, I think it's sad for her family that an old lady has died. That's as far as it goes for me.

For me spending money on the royal family(and don't come out with the BS that they earn the country millions) while people are living on foodbanks is as perverse as Andy the Nonce.

Game off and 100% the right decision . This is a proud country with standards and football is part of the culture that makes us so great.

I can see both sides of this one. On the one hand it's probably not that respectful, jumping up and down celebrating goals during a period of national mourning but on the other there's something to be said from people gathering together at times like this. Hearing God Save The Queen spontaneously start at the West Ham game last night sent shivers down your spine.
Still, probably just about the right decision.

Hopefully the train operators, hotel chains etc will have the decency to refund people the money who have booked for sporting, or any other events, that are being cancelled.

Never going to happen. Train operators will find any excuse not to refund you, and the hotels are just as greedy. A couple of years ago, due to a signal failure at East Croydon all southbound trains were cancelled from Victoria or London Bridge. The nearby hotel rates went through the roof. Instead of my digs, I ended up coming back to Northampton for the night.

It would have been a good time to play Walsall as after winning their first 2 league games they have only gained 2 points from the next 5 and are without a win from 7 games in all competitions. No doubt when it is re-arranged they will be in a good run of form.

On the other hand we may have some injured players back. I assume it will now be played on a Tuesday night which means I can watch it on ifollow.

I appreciated the Queen sense of service and her simple Covid comments ‘we will meet again’ was a very poignant comment in a middle of a dangerous pandemic. I am sad that the Walsall game is off but it’s the least the EFL could do considering Football’s relationship with the Queen. As a mark of respect it is of course the correct decision. It is expected that a few might make quasi political comments but good luck to them! It is reassuring that some are able to appreciate respect for the Queen.

Absolutely! She was a mad Brentford fan, often seen at Griffin Park back in the day!

All grassroots football off as well.
Do you think Her Maj would have wanted a load of children to have missed out on the highlight of their week?
