Approaching mid December and our marquee signing played 14, scored 0.
Seal played 6 scored 2 last year Danny Rose is doing well at Stevenage.
Both of them had their critics
In my opinion Hyltons not been good enough or lived up to the hype.
Hope he proves me wrong.
Thoughts?

After the pre-season friendly against Luton some of their fans told us to have a bet on Hylton being top goalscorer in League 2. They also said get some money on him to have the most red and yellow cards. I'm glad I didn't take their advice.

Very disappointing signing - yes he has changed the course of one, possibly two games but overall contribution falls far short of the hype.
Will he get better? - always live in hope but I have my doubts

Most of us thought that although in the twilight of his career that it was a good signing. Luton manager said it would be the Division 2 signing of the season but it has turned out to be one of Division 2's most disappointing signings of the season as he has produced very little and 19 year old Bowie has outperformed him. We clearly execute the high press well and if this was our intended tactic at the start of the season it was a mistake to sign him as obviously he is not going to be charging about closing down defenders. You would imagine that Hylton is one of our highest earners but is it a luxury we can afford to have one of our highest earners only coming on for 20-30 minutes and against Tranmere to little effect. I wonder if JB is getting frustrated with him as usually he does not criticise players individually but will say that a defensive mistake cost us a goal without naming the player. Yet after the Tranmere game he said "Hylts" should have got on the end of Hoskins cross to win us the game. At the moment it is difficult to see what he brings to the team.

Not sure it is so difficult...think we can easily come to the conclusion of zilch, zero, nowt! He'll be at Bromley next season after Borehamwood decline his services!

Like Hylton, he should be starting, once he gets one the floodgates will open.

So far in comparison last season Ashley-Seal was a goal machine.

7 starts, 9 sub appearances for us in all competitions. He also failed to score in his last six appearances for Luton (2 starts, 4 off the bench) 233 minutes without a goal for Luton, followed by 728 minutes without a goal for us.... 961 minutes total.... just over 16 hours on the pitch.

I remember first game of the season thinking that he looked a class above. He’s certainly not delivered the goals that we’re hyped, but I do think that he’s had flashes of promise. And he’s only just missed getting some goals (albeit you’d expect an experienced forward to put them away).
I would like to see him start a few games in a row to see if he hits some form in front of goal. But equally understand it’s not a luxury that we can afford to try.
That being said, we aren’t getting the goals from Appere (but I rate him quite highly due to his work rate). Bowie pops up with the odd goal, but then he’s only a loanee and I’d prefer that we prioritise contracted players where possible.

Hylton is not quick enough or energetic enough for this team . The whole ethic is athleticism and pace and he has neither . He doesn’t train fully all week due to injury concerns and can only last 30 minutes . He is okay but is an expensive luxury , like Eppiah for different reasons . I think if someone stumped up £10k a month we would release without any second thoughts .

I have to agree with Boot & Shoes assessment of Hylton not suiting the way we play, high press and the fast counter attack away from home. JB had a pretty good summer transfer window but there will always be some that don't work out and so far this is one of them. The only other one I would say has to be Haynes who got taken to the cleaners at Chesterfield and was brought in as cover for Koiki. It is no surprise that JB now prefers to play right footed Odimayo at left back in preference and so far he has done quite well. However both Hylton and Haynes are on 2 year contracts but if we had the option of shipping them out I would take it.

I also go along with the idea that Hylton doesn't suit the way we play, but has proved very useful on a few occasions when we've needed to change tactics to get/defend a result. To me he's being used in the way Rose was last year. He's undoubtedly a far better player than Rose in terms of making things happen around him, but he's been equally disappointing in terms of lack of goals.
He should have had at least 3 or 4 goals for us so far and had his name been Ashley-Seal rather than Hylton, he would already have been written off by many. The biggest concern for me was Hoskins' cross on Saturday that looked a real chance just a few yards out and he didn't even go for it. That suggests he's either off the pace or his attitude isn't right. As has been said here, JB rarely has a go at one of his players, but he called Hylton out on that one.

He has missed a few chances he should of scored this season and has hit the woodwork a couple of times.
However, i don't count Saturday's in that. Hoskins, aimlessly smashed the ball full pelt across the goal, it was a few yards in front of him and he was the only one in there.
He has contributed a fair bit in some of our wins creating goals or being involved in the build up. Hopefully there is more to come with some goals added.
