What he tweets on his personal twitter has nothing to do with his job.
Much like the trust advisor, does not speak for the Trust, its just his opinion. It can go both ways. I bet that thinks a lot more, before he tweets in the future though.

I enjoyed MOTD on Saturday. No fast forwarding between games. It was good to hear the crowd and focus on the action. If they extended the highlights it would work well and save a large chunk of dosh.

It was interesting to read the debate on the tweet. A lot of the people backing 'freedom of speech' were opposed to the statement he made. I can imagine the confusion it caused some people.  Grin
The only outcome being that the BBC handled it really badly.

Perhaps it wasn't their sort of "freedom of speech"? Wink

I didn't have a problem with his criticism, that's the right of us all, it was the reference he used to illustrate it that was concerning.

I also enjoyed Saturday's MotD, it saved me having to fast forward through the pre and post match stuff that I normally do.  Wink

Gary Lineker has an opinion about this governments emigration policy. He has aired that opinion, leaving all to debate the merits of it. But that was not the point. The issue was a wider issue about suppression and influence being used to silence someone. If that doesn't concern you, then you are completely unaware of the true meaning of free speech.

The second greatest gift next to free speech, is the right to disagree, but accept the other persons right to their views.

I'm not sure how old you are. But I'd take his look at 62...

Wins his tax case and deemed not an employee of the BBC so he can be cut adrift without compensation as soon as any contracts he's agreed to are completed. Will the BBC ask License Fee payers what they think and act accordingly?

They should.

Too expensive and nowhere near value for money.

Why would there be any compensation due if no further work had been agreed between the two parties?

Or how about we just get rid of the BBC completely, well past it’s sell by date and not needed in a modern Britain.

Unfortunately they are already negotiating for him to head up the BBC's European Cup Highlights programme(s) coming on line in season 2024/25.

Now I am a big fan of Mr Lineker in all sorts of ways but I think if you are technically employed by someone, you should be legally employed by them and taxed appropriately.

I am sure it would not bankrupt him to do so.

We really ought to look after him as Garys are now an endangered species in this country and expected to be extinct by 2050.
The last new born to be named Gary was apparently in 1992, which means that poor sod is only going to live to be 58, what do the stat men know that we don't?

One can only assume that he is classed as a contractor to the BBC and is therefore responsible for his own tax liabilities. So with a good accountant he has found a way to avoid paying a huge tax bill. All above board, but morally corrupt.
