look at the NTFC website

and assuming hall signs, 3 of them will play at torquay.

well beckwith will, beckworth definitely wont.

Beckwith won't; he'll be suspended for his sending off at Bradford.

I thought that was only a 1 match ban and he missed the Bury game?

Could be wrong though...

New boys Wedderburn, and Hall (if he signs) look very solid and good additions.

Sammo wants to know if Hall is going to sign by the end of today... Also a championship striker is close to joining the club hopefully on 6 months loan. Also he is after another player but doesn't say much about him (perhaps a right back?)

I'd been told it was 3 games so I'm pleased I'm wrong on this occasion.

I have to say i was fairly impressed last night, maybe not by the result but we certainly played a much better style of football than I have seen in the past two years, whether or not that will be effective in league 2, who knows.

I thought the central midfield 3 worked very well with Osmand and Wedderburn getting stuck in leaving Thronton free to roam and several times he got the ball and had acres of space. I thought Mckay looked very good as a left winger and that he generally played well.

The youth teamers that came on looked very good, but I am still worried about our defence. I am really not sure that Holt is going to be good enough at centre back, I don't think a few decent performances playing their as cover is enough to make him a first choice right back, but we'll see. And even if he is good enough, we are still short of cover, or at least cover that can do a half decent job

Ageed, in the first 20 minutes there was some comediic defence: mainly silly passing across the front of the area (Hall) and silly passes in and around the front of it (Holt and Beckwith).  The lack of pace between Holt and Beckwith wasn't really tested.  I also thought that Harris looked more comfortable than Holt when he dropped into a more central defensive position, and was very good, nay excellent. in the air, and a few times I had to blink that it wasn't Sammo back.  Similar build, gait.

As for systems, you've all been watching too many video games.  I really don't give a monkey's what formation we play, all the best teams are able to adapt during a game, and Thornton especially was playing far further forward than most of you would suggest.

totally agree with insider, it think that is why samo likes harris cus he sees a lot of him in the way he plays and  of how he was when he came to the cobblers, i do recall samo being out of favour and spending time on the bench and it done him no harm, and i think this could be harris season to show what he is made of

holt - first choice right back ?! interesting

no cover.....hinton, mccready, holt, beckwith, rodgers, harris........and i saw mentioned that wedderburn play there as well.....more cover than anywhere else on the pitch.

I meant centre back, I think that was fairly obvious seen as he has never played right back in his carear.

And I quite clearly said cover that can do a decent job.

McGready = s***. Hinton = s*** Rodgers = not a CB and not a good defender (although put in some great crosses at Kettering). Holt = far from s***, but im not convinced. Beckwith = good Harris = unproven

SO thats maybe 2 decent centre backs at a push, its utterly pointless having cover if they can't do a job. We have more cover in midfield and most of them can do a decent job as well.

I have to disagree with you there. Hinton was s*** at the start of the season, but this was because he was being played at right/left back. This is clearly not his position, and a lack of pace meant that he was skinned on various occasions. When Sammo took over, he played Hinton in the correct position, and then Hinton's performances vastly improved. I still think that Holt and Beckwith will be starters, but the experience that Hinton has could be invaluable on various occasions.

Thats fair enough, you certainly far from being in the minorty in being a fan of Hinton, or at least thinking he can do a decent job. But in my opinion, even when the defence as a whole looked decent, Hinton still looked a liability. To be honest, he reminds me of Jamie Carragher, albeit a s*** version. He can make fantastic blocks/tackles, but these are usual in the form of a recovery being he has been completely murdered in terms of pace/skill or just an error. He cost us badly against Notts county and Rotherham, two of the biggest games of last season.

Yeah, possibly so, but he wasn't playing in defence or anywhere near it. Not that you were saying he wa, but he certainly cannot be considered as central defensive cover in my opinion.

I take it unless I have missed anything or the Chron were just speculating that Hall did not sign by this deadline - does that indicate he wont or just that more time is needed.

That's the funniest thing I've read all week.  The Kettering fans I sat near were taking the piss because of the number of times he needlessly ran the ball out of play or showed poor control.  He did put in the dangerous cross that Guinan should have scored from.

Its funny you say that actually as i responded to him with pretty much the same thing, saying usually Rodgers just kicks the ball off or falls over!
