Chron reports today that Guinan has revealed he has turned down several offers, and has hinted that a sixfields exit may still be on the cards.

Is he trying to drun up interest?

He could of course start scoring goals for us if he's back to form after his op and his poor last season, but even if he does, he's still being paid at the old (presumably inflated) rates, so he does need to look for another job at similar income or face being offered less by us at the end of the year when his contract runs out. I assume the same applies to Hinton. Both are as slow as old carthorses, but that doesn't mean there can't be a place for them at the correct price in a balanced squad.

according to some people on here, guinan is under-rated, and hinton has his place in our squad, as a squad player, on his inflated wages, with someone else coming in as well to take his place.

i would be quite happy to see the back of them - although from what i have heard they are both very nice blokes and i would wish them well.........just not on the pitch for us if we can help it.

To be fair Guinan started the season ok and even scored a few early on, he had to have an operation on a hernia and probably wasn't fully fit when he returned to the squad. He could be an important player this season. His interview on cobblers player didn't suggest he was thinking of moving on,

I would be quite happy to have Guinan in the squad next year.  Started last season ok and will score some goals if fit.  Just unlucky he got a bad injury and then had to play towards the end of the season when clearly unfit at the end.  His experience could be useful due to the age of the other forwards.  I think Hinton done well when finally played in his correct position but would probably be best he leaves as I imagine it was a tough one for him to take when transfer listed.  Cant see someone taking him on though.

Speaking with Hinton and Guinan in the past they both are decent pros though and if happy to be squad players they could add a lot of value off the pitch assuming they have a good relationship with Samme and the staff and it wasnt personal transfer listing them which I dont think it was.  Just Wages and Age.

They would both prove to be very expensive squad players.

We are under budget at the moment.  If we lose them they need replaced.  As long we can do that with good players and soon then that would be fine.   But if not then they will be good players to have around and could prove people wrong and become key players.  Holt or Beckwith gets injured Hinton would likley be called upon and if he plays well would keep his place.  Guinan would play some games and if starts scoring he would then also be a first teamer.  Whether they could do that is another question but wont be too worried if they dont leave.  We have some great young players but we need a mix with experience.

Just wanted to post about Guinan. Think he deserves some credit for the way he has conducted himself since being placed on the transfer list. Seems to have stepped up his game a little bit this pre season, could possibly still do a job for us?

Sure some people will say well he has got a good deal here so he is bound to conduct himself well etc etc but to be fair he is coming to the end of his career and will obviously want to play, whenever interviewed he comes across really well and says all the right things. I'm not the biggest fan of Guinan as a player after last season but he seems like a really decent genuine bloke and if he does leave i wish him all the best.

It seems that he doesn't know what is future is at the club.....

I personally think he will be part of the squad this season and his experience will hopefully help the young strikers.

We've all got our own thoughts on who the strike force should be, however it's really fairly simple, you bang the goals in, you stay in the team. Guinan needs to take his chance whenever it comes along, and the same applies of course to Herbert, Mckay and Purcell. If any two of those four can form a partnership that gets 30+ goals this season then I'm sure we'll all be happy.

Guinan told BBC Radio Northampton: "I'm just out for myself. If somebody wants to take me then that's brilliant.

"Hopefully, I can get in the team and score a few goals, then someone will sit up, take interest, and maybe I will move on."

He obviously doesn’t want to be here, its a shame he doesn’t play as good game as he talks or someone might have come in for him..   Roll Eyes

He probably does play a good game when he's not injured.

Just thought, if he was at their game tonight then the chances are he won't need taking back there now will he? Unless he's just popped home to pick up some essentials (ie: a banjo). You still got that big cow thing hereford boy?
