I can understand Sky being a bit miffed, having funded the Prem for 18 years and single handedly making it the attraction it is only to now be told they can't reap what they have sowed. If Sky hadn't funded the likes of Cantona, Bergkamp, Torres etc would BT & Virgin be desperate for it? No is the likely answer.

I cancelled Sky for one reason only...because they have in my opinion ruined the English game. I got shot of it 2 years ago and switched to BT. And I will not complain that they have stopped SSN being free...afterall I don't pay them anything (my choice) so why should I expect to receive a Sky channel? What makes me laugh is when Sky subscribers moan about premiersh*t players being over paid! They are being overpaid with their money. Muppets!

Exactly, but the anti Sky brigade would argue that had it allowed to grow more organically it would be a better product for the England market than it is now. People used to speak about a future global football league, well now they've got one and it happens to be based in England. The big four seems likely to increase to the big six or seven in the near future, simply because worldwide TV rights gives a good return on investment. There has to be a control on Sky and despite their beatings, they are apparently happy to along with Ofcom. It stops them having to measure their own morality, although I'm not sure what human rights are being violated by the high cost of watching a prem football match on tele. To borrow another thread title, If there ever was an example of a fcuked up world that has to be it.

Good, i'm glad. Why should I subsidise the freeview mafia? only annoying thing is having to learn a new channel number for the hd feed
Your not subsidising anything....I pay for a Virgin Medium package..which until today included Sky Sports News among a load of Mickey Mouse channels..There is never any live footie on Stelling's channnel...if you want to watch Prem footie etc..that's your choice! I'm not prepared to in effect pay a fiver a week extra to get a channel ( I really enjoyed) plus even more Mickey Mouse s***e I'll never watch.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, SSN just gave you the latest scores, you get the same thing on a Saturday on BBC 1 by pressing the red button.
I said from the get go, if people refused to subscribe then nobody would be paying now. The very first pay per view event was a boxing match. What would Sky have done if nobody had subscribed to it? They'd have been stuck, trouble is, stupid people can't keep their hands in the pockets for just a short while and because of that, a lot of you are now paying through the teeth and for what? Apart from live Premiers***e football (which you can see the highlights of all over the place for free) you get films and a few good TV series which you can download for yourself, always earlier and sometimes months earlier. The rest is a series of repeats of repeats or channels nobody in their right mind would want to watch.
Having said that I am full of admiration for SKY. They've managed to get people to continue to pay for something they could have got for free. Like the man said, you can fool all of the people some of the time.
Note: I did have SKY but got rid of it when it reached £30. I now pay virgin £26 for TV, phone and broadband. If SKY ever lower their prices below that, they can have my custom but for me it really is only the broadband I'm interested in.
Another note: If they ever sold a season ticket for a club like ourselves, showing live games both home and away, I'd be prepared to pay quite a bit for that.

Are you admitting to illegally downloading films and tv shows Marvo?

For the chap that said that he could have sky at home but is away during the week. Get yourself Sky at home, then you get access to Sky Player during the week which gives you access to the stuff on telly through your laptop. So long as where you're staying has broadband then you haven't got a problem.
There are also less legal options available to you quite easily as well...

The solution here is simple. At 2.30 on Saturday press the BBC red button, select Final Score and hey presto. You'll get the same live score tracker and match reports, post-match interviews etc all without need for Sky.

You also get a substandard product in comparison to Sky Sports News. That said, if you pay peanuts...

Marvo, I'm led to believe some sides in Italy do offer a season ticket for fans to watch there teams games home & away but not sure of the price I know an idea like that would keep fans from paying to go to a match but if it was offered to me I would be very hard pushed not t take them up on it

Do you know what "Nemesis" means?
A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent personified in this case by a sex starved voyeur that is Tyro.

Oh and I forgot to add, you numpties are paying for a channel that they then have the nerve to also show adverts on! Talk about milking it from both ends.

I went to the cinema the other week and had to watch some adverts beforehand, i read the newspaper earlier and every 3rd page was an advert and i pay my roadtax yet every half a mile some idiot has put a billboard up. You.re very bitter considering this entire thread has f*** all to do with you as you don't subscribe. in fact, why are you even getting involved with it?

It was obvious that when sky announced they were showing all Sky Sports channels in HD that they would pull the plug on the free channels.
As far as I'm concerned its all a big con so we will all have to join sky and pay for a HD box.
I've never been an armchair fan or one to watch footy down the pub, rather go to a live game, but sky seem to be allowed to do what they want, just like all big companies. Down to ofcom? I bet they even bullied them!
I'm sticking with Virgin, even though it's crap!
