I’ve mentioned this before but FFS. In most bridging Towns and Cities the river is the focal point and part of the identity and civic pride of the community. Take Melbourne, a walk along the Yarra is fantastic pretty much whichever stretch you pick. Parks, hotels, bars, restaurants, retail, Sea Life Aquarium, Crown Casino, Olympic Park, I could list the attractions all day. Any photographs of Melbourne invariably include the river and that goes for almost every town with one running through it. There is that whole stretch of river from Carlsberg right through to Sixfields crying out for development. With a bit of imagination think what you could do with it, with Sixfields and the Saints integrated into the whole scheme. Northampton Town Centre is dying yet an effective travel link from South Bridge along the old Bedford line through the development and similarly from All Saints to South Bridge such as a tram line could effectively link the 2 and be the catalyst to regenerate and kick start the whole town. Instead of blowing any available money on a stand, if the club was smart it could invest in a protected stake holding in that development and generate an income outside of football to support the club financially for generations to come. All it needs is a progressive thinking council, like minded developers, some motivation and a few dreams. On the other hand let’s build another warehouse. Northampton has a motto of Castello Fortior Concordia - Peace is stronger than a fortress. Perhaps it should be changed, how do you say “fcuk it that’ll do” in Latin? Maybe I am deluded, but you just want to put your head in your hands and weep.
