Club says:

We are delighted that the Northampton Borough Council cabinet has agreed to regularise the situation regarding the land around the East Stand. There is now some legal paperwork to be finalised, which we will work with NBC to complete.

That will take another 18 months then.

Absolutely, football is pure drama and needs to housed in an appropriate theatre.
The back drop of  banks of vociferous supporters will enhance the atmosphere no end, that then encourages more to visit.
Basic and obvious stuff really..

£4 million is a red herring!!

In the original interview with the BBC after taking over the club, Thomas stated that there was £4 million "to finish the stand and provide working capital"

Bearing in mind the takeover was 2 and a half years ago now, how much of that £4m has been used to keep the club ticking over? There was the HMRC bill at the beginning to start with. What about the £1.1m "loaned" to the club in January? What about the work already done to get the stand in the position it is now (there were no seats in it when he took over were there?)

So he spends a million finishing off the stand and then say's he's done.......he'll have probably have carried out his original promise and nobody could complain!

I don't think KT ever said he'd spend £4m on the ground alone.

Great work from KT for calling the council out...

Finally giving him the green light to proceed with the completion of the East Stand. No businessman worth their salt would have proceeded with the leases in their current state, yet many were on his back when it was NBC who needed to resolve issue...

Providing the fvcking thing gets finished and looks half decent then that'll do for me...life's too short!

So if you invested £4m to revamp the East Stand would you not expect to see some sort of benefit to the investors. I wish you were the benefactor as am sure you would be incredibly generous, fairminded etc and want no safeguard on beneficial returns.

I like the idea someone had about knocking the East Stand down and building 3 stands the other side of the athletics track. Then rent out that side to Northamptonshire CC? A real money spinner me thinks?

I agree. IIRC he also mentioned a figure of "£1 Million or £2Million for the stand" when he was interviewed on RN after issuing the statement criticising the Council last month

Now that the land issues have been resolved we should make a decent proposition for a group or individuals who want a lowly but solvent football club to buy into to help grow.
This will be the first time this has ever happened if this should be the case.
If the current  incumbents  dont really have the £4m to invest into the infrastructure  and only hope to keep us treading water, then theres really no point to them sticking around

Yes I did and unless Im mistaken the club have secured a small peice of land that doesn't extend much further than 8 lanes of running track, but it still adds to the value of the club from an investor, seller or prospective buyers point of view.
Should be an interesting summer.

The ONLY reason I would 'INVEST' in a football club would be for zero return to myself and to try and take my football team up the leagues.

It would make little difference as to how much money I had. I just wouldn't 'invest' in football. I do not see it as an investable opportunity.

If theres an opportunity with regards to making money 'on the side' via development on land, Id like to see that money channelled towards the football club. Not KT, not Bower, Not DC, no one.

The only way that would happen is if a fan/s took on the ownership, or some idiot from China (!) that is on an ego trip. Most clubs in the top two divisions have such owners. Man UTD aside, and they are basically the only club pretty much guaranteed to make a profit over time.

The key for me is not what/if KT does with the land…and thats assuming the council let him which I don't think they will until they see evidence that its being spent to the clubs benefit…but who he/they sell the club to.

Which, in my opinion, won’t matter either if KT finishes the existing East Stand to its current limitations. I’d prefer KT to complete all the legal stuff on what land the club can and can’t build or develop on and then sell the club as a package to somebody with more money (Unlikely I know) that can see the East Stand structure needs ripping down and a proper main stand building that is suitable to purpose rather than the internally restricted West Stand.

That’s in a perfectly ideal world though. So that’s not going to happen obviously.

With the Council finally getting off its backside KT is now in a corner with no where to go on the East Stand so he had better come out into the open and share with us his exciting plans for the east side of ground, that is if in reality he has any plans.

The alternative version is that a big chunk of the so-called £4 million has been spent on sub-standard players, 3 hopeless managers and a desperate failed attempt to stay in L1 meaning the money has run out, Bower is saying no more £££ is available and they are open to offers.

Everything depends on the deal agreed with the Council on the takeover. Thomas and Bower were not the only interested parties so it stands to reason that they should and will honour that agreement.

"If you would have told a lot of people the deal we ended up with there would have been 50 people in the room. We were just there with a clear and concise proposal that said we will take the club on, we will invest the money to take it forward.

Has the Chinese debacle and the share buy-back eaten into funds available for infrastructure improvement? It also depends on whether they have capital in the millions to invest in the stand or whether monies are dependent on enabling funds via development of wider land.

For someone as careful with his words as Kelvin, again it stands to reason that the following will pan out or not in the case of wider enabling development.

"David Bower has probably come to the end of his property development cycle and even then probably not on the large scale that was going to be required if we were going to entertain the large scale commercial development on the other side of the East Stand".

There's the difference between us and them.
We are fans who want everything for the club, they are businessmen who would like to make money from the current thing that occupies their day before moving onto their next 'project'.

James Averill from the Trust covered the meeting. From his Twitter

"Cllr Tim Hadland: "There have been statements that this sort of paperwork was stopping the redevelopment of the East Stand. Am I correct in saying there is now absolutely nothing to stop the development of the stand?"

Council leader Jonathan Nunn: "Yes you are correct."
